  1. "Left oblique fatigue" “It was actually pretty good news, all things considered, that there wasn't something torn or where he had [the injury] last time,” Mets manager Buck Showalter said before the Mets doubleheader against the Pirates. “I think the idea is to get it resolved so that he can finish the season strong and be ready for whatever the season holds for us.” -- https://nypost.com/2022/09/07/max-scherzer-heading-to-il-in-latest-hit-for-reeling-mets/NY Post
  2. I have no idea how anyone would go about ranking 'hit-and-run' men ... or why. And even if such a thing was accurate, weve been outscored 22-4 in the last three games. Having Luis Guillorme around so we can play more hit-and-run isn't going to change that.

  4. Braves game is five pitches in and they already have two hits. It took us, what, six innings to get that many tonight? How many runs will Atlanta have before our game ends?
  5. And now it's four again, which certainly looks undoable. Met bats have been blanked in 25 of their last 28 innings - against two of the four worst pitching staffs in the NL.
  6. Two runs down is doable. Four seemed like it wasn't.
  7. I detect a pulse in the patient
  8. At least we got into their bullpen.
  9. The Pirates have a winning record against three teams this season: 4 - 3 vs Nationals 8 - 7 vs Cubs ... and 5 - 1 against the Dodgers!! Go figger.
  10. Oooh, you're right, I mis-counted. So it's one to catch ARod, five for the round number.
  11. Well it's not just us: Nats thump the red hot Cards 6-0
  12. I think all these stadiums are trying to go cashless after seeing the way Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner knocked over Fenway for millions following a four game series with New York. "We're going to take down the cathedral of Boston"
  13. 54 for Judge 4-2 Yanx over the Twins, end of six
  14. I remember, a whole buncha years ago, handing an NYC shop a $10 for a pair of 75 cent cans of soda and being rewarded with a look that said, 'what the fuck do you expect me to do with that?'. The girl I was with, who lived in and spent much more time in NYC than I, immediately recognized the meaning beind the look and dug out something smaller before I even added up what was going on. Left on my own I would have taken the 10-spot back and spent it somewhere else. Sweden is one of those places on the leading edge of the trend towards going mostly cash-less, so best to check on specifics before visiting CPF headquarters if that pocketful of Krona will even get you in the door.
  15. Well Seattle is hot, at least for the moment anyway. Who knows if that'll still be the case come Friday. The two Bay Area teams not so much. Odd that those are the first and last series rather than consecutive.
  16. "Sometimes you need a rainout" I'm not sure that this is that day, but who knows. I do know that I didn't need one having missed large chunks of all three WAS games and having the day off today with a day game slated. And we know how much Buck hates them DH's
  17. 14 games on this Labor Day (seven of them day games) which means four teams are off, the Braves and Phillies among them. Braves are spending the holiday winging their way to the west coast so all their results will be coming in late for the next week and a half. They'll play two in Oakland starting on Tuesday; three in Seattle over the weekend; then Mon thru Wed in San Fran.
  18. The other HR 'race' to watch as this season winds down (in addition to the one where Judge chases down whichever mark one chooses to, well ... judge, as the legit single season mark, is that of Sir Albert of Pujols. He hit career #695 on Sunday tying him with Alex Rodriguez for 4th overall and giving him a legit shot at 700. Neither mark seem plausible as this swan song season began. And now he's got four weeks to go after hitting five in just the last two weeks. And while it's tempting to say that he's just picking his spots and swinging for HRs at this point, he's also hitting .272 (highest since 2012) with a .348 OBA (best since 2011) which translates to a 149 OPS+. All those marks are higher than he had in any single season with LAA. Angels fans must be venting, 'So NOW you turn back into that guy?!?!'
  19. I call it baseball.
  20. It's also used by one of the Braves hitters as walk-up music, I believe prior to Edwin adopting it. Why anyone would get exorcised over the Braves playing it escapes me.
  21. Lists like that always look better when they're selectively culled of results that don't help to serve the predetermined desired outcome.

  23. The Hot Corner wrote: At least this is preferable than when I was always blocked from Atlanta games until MLB inexplicably switched to Washington and Baltimore black outs. I guess you're probably about equidistant from ATL and BAL/WAS But how it's usually determined is which team's games you could possibly get via cable pkgs available in your area. MLB doesn't want folks doing an end run around those channels that have lucrative deals with the clubs.
  24. It's just the whole idea of: 'let's show you what's unique about our state ... Look, we have football fields!!!' Yeah, how original, so do the other 49
  25. The entire AL East won last night ... with the exception of the Yanx Tampa now trails by only 5 games, Toronto by 7, Baltimore by 8.5 ... and then there's Boston at -14.5 So let's consider this for a second, the Yanx lead over the last place AL East team is now smaller than it was over the 2nd place team in early July.
