  1. Thorton has a 2-2 count on the batter after two pitches.
  2. Not that 'clear and convincing' is the standard anyway. It may be in word but not in practice, not now it isn't at least even if it supposedly was at some point.
  3. So while there's been incremental progress in the raw numbers since early in the year, the team's ranking remains pretty much unchanged now that we're four months into this little project which in turn gives little indication that it's going to be much better in the remaining four updates.
  4. Yes, he's not hurt and he's not not hitting because he's playing 1B, an easier physical position than the ones he played previously. Also not really old (turned 33 a few weeks back) and averaged 120 G/yr over the last five seasons and under 100 just once in that time.
  5. You mean his 773/117 OPS/OPS+ for the five year period from 2021-25 compared to his 391/10 this year? Sounds like just small sample size and random fluctuation to me.
  6. Bruin Kazuya Paliku Agbayani If that name is on Wheel of Fortune you might be forced into buying a consonant.
  7. The Yanx finish up their week in Chicago with a weekend series at Wrigley. And, being Friday, the opener was played this afternoon with the Yanx winning 2 - 0. Not surprisingly their two runs came on solo HRs (Amed Rosario & Spencer Jones) because HRs are basically the only way they score. They had just five hits, the Cubs just four. - the Phils travel all the way to Baltimore - the Nats and the Braves play each other in Atlanta And Texas @ Houston is the big rivalry series for the weekend as the Rangers lead the 'Astros in the division by just 1/2 game (SEA = 2-1/2 back) at the start of today's action.
  8. Not quite sure what people were expecting form a Minter trade. After signing with the Mets in the previous off-season he's appeared in 36 games (out of a possible 270) and thrown 34 innings. That 34 IP, btw, matches the 34 he threw for Atlanta in 2024. Now while 68 innings represents a decent number for a reliever over a season, this is Minter's total across Three season (2-2/3 to be specific). Is a nice lefty arm out of the pen (never started a game) and his splits vs RHBs are only marginally worse than his same-side numbers over his career. But he missed two-1/2 months in '24, the last five months of '25, and then the first two of '26 so there's got to be a limit that a club will spend for him. Turns 33 next month (which is several years younger than I expected).
  9. I'm with 'Team Keith' on this one, Bichette would have been out by 40 feet. G & R thought it was worth the gamble but LF has the ball in his hands as Bichette is hitting the base. The next single was not only a better risk but the fact that the first run was already in made it the better time to take a risk. Benge is safe there on just about anything save maybe with a perfect throw.
  10. I was thinking no-hitter starting in the 2nd inning tonight ... but as I type this it ends just over halfway there (14 of 27 outs).
  11. The Yanx didn't blow a six or seven run lead last night, but they did blow a 4 - 0 lead in the 7th and eventually lost. And it wasn't just that they lost it's how. The game was tied after the ChiSox scored once in the 7th and thrice in the 8th. Neither team scored in the 10th but the Yanx notched one in top 11 . The Sox then got their ghost runner to 3rd but made two quick outs. The Yanqui catcher thought this would be a great time to end the game by picking the runner off 3rd ... except that he threw it into LF, game tied. Yanx didn't score in top-12, Sox walked it off in the bottom half. This afternoon, the Sox walked it off in the 11th (bases-loaded walk). Those two split the four game series 2 - 2. Incredibly, given the White Sox performance in the last couple seasons decades, this could be a playoff preview.
  12. Well, that was the backstory we made up. Whether or not there was any truth to it is pure speculation. I not only remembered the existence of that thread but I even remembered some of the posts, Vic's in particular. Considering the stuff I can't remember from day to day, it's amazing the stupid shit I retain from nearly two decades ago.
  13. 43 thru 4 ... who is this guy and what did he do with Christian Scott?
  14. Now it's 31 pitches in three innings (hell, 45 would be considered good) for Crash Christian. Beats the hell out of the 89 in 3-2/3 he threw in his last start (MIL)
  15. Scott - two innings = 20 pitches Sale - one inning = 22 Didn't have that one on my dance card.
  16. And tell them you'll take yours down whenever they get around to putting theirs up.
  17. It's only 3:30 PM EDT and already TWO six-run leads have been blown. - Phils were up 6-0 by the top of the 5th but lost the game to the Marlins 8 - 6 - and the 'Do we hold or do we sell?' Tigers led 7 - 0 after six but are now batting in bottom 7th tied 7 - 7 with the O's
  18. Now here's a situation which might call for the unofficial 'no two innings' rule for relievers. Maybe they'd rather use weaver for two innings now rather than have Brazoban, Weaver, AND Williams all pitch in Game one which likely makes all NOT available for the nightcap. oe: ... and as I type this Williams in warning up in the pen, so ignore everything I said above
  19. It also got out there in a hurry. My first instinct was 'two runs' also, but I couldn't see where Lindor was when the ball was being fetched off the wall.
  20. Actually it was a one RBI double. Lindor held at 3rd. Both Bichette and Benge got on top of pitches from 0000 that were several inches north of the zone. Both hit 'em hard but Benge's got further towards the corner.
