  1. Decent outing for Severino. 2 BBs plus 7 hits but several of those were soft.
  2. 114 pitches*, 3 walks, 9 K * Funny how that's the first thing peeps think of these days on a no-no or even a possible one when it wasn't even part of the conversation in 20th century games
  3. I'm sure DJ Stewart is thinking, 'Mendy finally gives me a start and it's against a nasty lefty like Sale'
  4. I'll reprint my quickie Braves KTE here from the Braves thread: Braves coming to town for a four game set but, a bit like the Yanx, they're not quite the team we've come to know in recent years. Still a decent nine games over .500 but they're five games under since posting their 26-13 high water mark in the middle of May. Injuries have been the biggest culprit — currently three position starters plus two rotation starters — but also some of their guys simply aren't hitting up to their usual standards. On the IL: 2B Ozzie Albies, CF Michael Harris, LHP Max Fried, RHP, Spencer Strider, RF Ronald Acuna, plus an assortment of relievers. But in addition to the injuries .... * 1B Matt Olson is hitting for a 688 OPS w/13 HRs [993 / 54 last year] * SS Orlando Arcia: 577 OPS after 741 in '23 * 3B Austin Riley (currently on paternity leave but should be back by Game 1 or 2): is down 100 OPS pts from his three straight top-10 MVP years * C Sean Murphy (who missed two months early): 844 to 643 * Only Marcel Ozuna is having a career season: .311/.386/.594 w/28 HRs So for now, Jerred Kelenic is playing everyday and in CF They've re-acquired Eddie Rosario for LF and Adam Duvall for RF, and are using brief NYM Zack Short at 2B Addendum: Ignacio 'Nacho' Alvarez Jr. made his ML debut this week going 1 for 9 in two games while playing both 2B & 3B. He's 21 y/o, a 2022 5th round pick out of a California JuCo who played rookie ball and high-A in '22. This season he rocketed through AA in two months and AAA in a month and a half [.336/.432/.575] because ... because of course he did. This is what Braves prospects do. Even the ones who aren't from super-premium draft positions.
  5. It's better than pop-ups and multiple weak ground-outs which is what we've been getting from McNeil for a long time.
  6. Lefty Specialist wrote: It's really kind of surprising the Yankees are this bad. The thing is though that they built up so much equity early in the season (they were freakin' 45 - 19) that they STILL have the third best record in the AL (barely behind Baltimore & Cleveland) and fifth best in MLB [PHI, LAD] despite playing sub-.400 ball (15 - 25) since June 6th.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Mets haven't beaten the Yanx by a 12 - 2 score since way back in .... actually it was 28 days ago. I think there's a good chance we're not looking at the final score. You were right.
  8. I'm not sure those boots are regulation baseball wear, but that's not bad hitting form, especially for a guitarist.
  9. Ravetch just mentioned the Subway Series record of six HRs in one game by the Yanx in 1999 What he failed to mention is that the Mets won that game (9-8). That was the Matt Franco/Mariano Rivera walk-off. One of the most exhausting game to watch I can remember (3:47).
  10. Crying Yanqui fans isn't catnip ... it's porn!
  11. But Bobby Jones never relieved Bobby Jones.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: I haven't been counting exit velocities I haven't either. Just guesstimating 95 as a dividing line between hard hit and not. But he spent most of 2023 and a good portion of this year playing patty-cake with the bat and ball. Any hits he'd get were mostly of the seeing-eye variety.
  13. Mets haven't beaten the Yanx by a 12 - 2 score since way back in .... actually it was 28 days ago.
  14. I beginning to think our pen can hold this one.
  15. He's gotta have more 95+ exit velo shots in the last two weeks than had in the last year and a half.
  16. Early Braves KTE for the four game set starting Thursday Braves coming to town for a four game set but, a bit like the Yanx, they're not quite the team we've come to know in recent years. 17. =kcmets post_id=163861 time=1721869864 user_id=53] Yeah but, he's good at framing pitches!
  18. Can't issue a walk here. ... And he didn't!!!
  19. Cole v Mets this year: 9.2 IP; 12 ER; 15 H; 4 K; 6 BB
  20. Just need a hit here Francisco. Stay in your shoes on the swing.
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The Mets' pants and jerseys aren't the same shade of grey. The shirts are darker because they're sweatier.
  22. On the (annoying) ESPN bottom of the screen crawl, it mentions the Christian Scott will be 'shut down for two weeks' and that they 'hope he can return this season'.
  23. Told youse we couldn't count on strafing Cole for six runs and four HRs in four innings like we did last time. Tonight they've got a mere five runs on three HRs through 4-1/3 Slackers!
  24. Buster Olney talking a few minutes ago about how the Yanx will be looking for bullpen help between now and the deadline. About a week ago Francesa (via whatever tin-can-and-string medium he's using these days) suggested a McNeil (prior to his recent surge) to the Yanx deal. JMcN needed a change of scenery and would thrive in lefty-friendly YSIII, big Mike reasoned, and the Yanx he assured us had "a million" relievers in the minors that the Mets need and would take. But it sounds like the Yanx don't even want the relievers the have or they'd be up already and Cashman wouldn't be searching other rosters for replacements.
  25. Well the night half of the Atlanta/Reds DH due to Tuesday night's rain out has been rained out. The bad news from that is that we'll likely see Chris Sale in the series opener tomorrow.
