  1. I thought about running for LoDuca as soon as he got on but rejected it. I might have if were the run needed to tie a game - but the odds that the diff in speed would make the crucial difference were real small and it's a 2-player move (burns Chavez & Castro) leaving only Franco on the bench of a game headed for extra innings. If it were Castro out there insted of LoDuca then I might. A handful of MFY fans on the radio complaining about: - Wright's "excessive celebration" while running towards 1st and - Howie Rose's call on the winning hit Wah, Fuckin, wah!!
  2. Reliever Anderson Garcia is your replacement. I suspect we now hold the record for most guys with the first name of Anderson on the squad in one year. ]I thought it was interesting that Willie used Heilman for 3 innings, rather than replace him with Sanchez as he normally would do. I hope this was a mini-audition for Heilman's moving imnto the rotation." I wouldn't read too much into that. The pitcher's spot never came up in the order during Heilman's stint and his 3 innings were accomplished with an economy of pitches - more like an inning and a half's worth. They may move him to the rotation and they may not, but I don't think last night's outing says anything about it one way or the other.
  3. John Thomson doing his Randy Johnson impression: Staked to a 5-0 lead before taking the mound in the 1st inning (sound familiar?) he's just been yanked in the 6th after serving up a 3R HR to make it 7-5 Arizona in the only NL game of the day. Boston beats Philly
  4. The TV guys said the MRI showed that Bannister's hammy "isn't fully healed yet" -- meaning he's going to have to wait a while before getting back into the swing of things. Between rest and rehab it's gotta be at least another month at this point.
  5. ]Did Heilman just win himself a shot? I was thinking while watching him mow down MFYs whether this helps him get out of the pen in the minds of NYM mgmt or just further cements him in it ... and I don't know the answer to that.
  6. I was thinking of him as I saw him join in the celebration w/Wright. Can't say it's not warranted but it just shows that the highs & lows of that business can be cruel at times.
  7. Heilman - 1.9 Beltran - 1.9 Wagner - 1.2 Wright - 1.8 Oliver - 0.7 Reyes - 0.35 LoDuca - 0.8 Nady - 1.0 Matsui - 0.35
  8. Bullpen summary: . The last MFY baserunner was Bernie's infield single (the one Reyes smothered in the hole saving the base loaded) w/2 outs **IN THE 4th** Even once you throw out the first inning (other than that Mrs. Lincoln how was the play?) the Yanx totalled just 5 singles (two infield) and a double w/10 Ks. Those (lack of) arms came back to haunt the MFYs. Damon was *REAL* shallow - almost like an OFer would be if there were LESS THAN 2 outs and a ball over your head wins the game even if it's caught. Nice shot by Wright but that had some hangtime to it and is prolly caught 8 times out of 10 under most circumstances.
  9. BEER FOR EVERYONE! It's Beer ... HOORAY BEER!!!!
  10. F-U-C-K-I-N-G H-U-G-E !!!!
  11. He set up that site as a hobby in the early days of the internet when he was like 14 y/o. The forum part of it was probably considered minor when he first started before eventually becoming the tail that wagged the dog as the internet became more universal. He himself rarely chatted on the forum part of the site and I always suspect must have been quite amused at the monster it became. The MLB lawyers werenpt really interested in driving sites like his off the net as they were in making sure that no one was using their logos and such on non-approved sites. Like I said, he could have easily made it comply but was probably ready to move on in any case.
  12. "Can someone fully explain the whole Fourm Wars and the splits of the Original MetsOnline Fan Fourm? " The whole idea of "forum wars" is more than a bit overstated. Bryan Hoch's original MetsOnline Forum (MoFo) was threatened by MLB's lawyers and Bryan simply chose not to fight it. He could have easily made the small changes it would have taken to continue but by then he was ready to move on the other things. The remains of that site (essentially the forum part of it) continue today as NYSportsDay or whatever it's called. But even prior to that changeover, this place sprung out of MoFo not because of any great holy war but because the founding folks here didn't like the direction it was taking. Too many screaming teenagers (posts totals would skyrocket at 3:00 after the school buses let out), and too many folks who were interested in having an opinion but not necessarily prepared to intellectually defend or explain it. 'Do this NOW!!!!', or 'FIRE [whoever]' were hourly rants passed off as discussion and a topic brought up in the morning was pushed to page 3 by afternoon as 15 new threads on the same subject were started within hours by folks too either lazy to see that it was already being discussed or were just too interested in seeing their "name" under 'thread started by' as many times as possbile. Think of the worst aspects of talk radio and then figure that there's no such thing as a call-screener. And then there were trolls and just plain morons who - doing their impression of 'I remember my first beer' dopiness - set about trying to destroy a forum simply because they could. It just became exhausting to keep up with and not worth it for some. Initially, this joint was set up simply as a place to retreat to and figure out what to do about the mess over there before returning. Eventually the folks doing the retreating realized that they were already "talking" to the people they were interested in talking to and they might as well continue to discuss the Mets HERE instead of just complaining about how hard it was to discuss them THERE. And yeah, there were a handful of personality conflicts which added to the split but those didn't create this place as much as give some an extra excuse to come here. The only real "holy war" didn't develop until this place (the earlier EZBoard version) was "outed". It was an invite-only place at first (after all, you couldn't really say: 'hey to get away from all you trolls and dopes we're going to **THIS ADDRESS HERE!!!!**) so when it was "discovered" so were the threads where we were discussing who from the old place we did - and more importantly did NOT - want to invite. That caused a few nasty words back and forth but mainly from the folks who didn't like each other to begin with and it pretty much died out over time. Some of the early invites here continued to post in both places all along and some still do. It's been pretty much a non-story for several years now.
  13. So other than the fact that I was late with the lineups, had them slightly off, and had the call-up's name wrong - the rest of my info was pretty good huh?
  14. No single team in the NLWest is all that good, but every team is hanging a couple games above .500 The NL East is obviously being brought down by the two anchors. Basically so far it's 3 really bad teams: Pitt, Fla & Wash taking a serious beaing from most of the other 13. Only the Cubs are hanging in that limbo between average and lousy - and that can be at least partially written off to them missing Wood, Prior & Lee. The NL holds a slight (like 4 games) edge in Interleague since it started in 1997 - even as the AL won a significant chunk of last year's tilts.
  15. Reyes LoDuca Beltran Delgado Wright Nady Matsui Valentin (LF) Gonzalez Damon Jeter Rodriguez Giambi Posada Cano Williams (LF) Cabrera (RF) Johnson That Yanqui lineup might not be exactly correct, but the starting positions are. Also, Bubba Crosby DL'd, something named Matt Smith called up
  16. Quick review before inter-league starts and begins to mess up all the math. As of now, the division records as a while are: NL East: -17 (games under .500) NL Central: +3 NL West: +14 AL East: +11 AL Central: Even AL West: -11
  17. This is the earliest I can find - having already found MY first post.
  18. "Yes, for the first six months the CPF was intended as a place for regulars at Metsonline Fan Forum to bug out" Not all the regulars, just you elitist swine who wanted to talk about others behind their backs. Where's that cross avatar when you need it? Actually, October 30th looks like the date things started to get rolling Of course, I like to think of November 7th as the day it really became a forum because, well until I started posting what good was it?
  19. The CPF only sort of existed for it's first six months or so. I always treat November 1st, 2001 as it's birthday as an ongoing forum. For whatever reason it started to pick up steam during the belated WS that year.
  20. The three best 40-game marks were better than our worst 40-game mark. Wouldn'ta thunk that.
  21. The high point doesn't necc need to be at the [u:ced65eeb1b]end of a season[/u:ced65eeb1b]
  22. But Shirley it would have been higher at some point in 2001 than it was at the end of 2005 since the 4-games-over in '05 plus the handful so far this season wouldn't have been enough to counteract the losing years of '02-'04
  23. I figured this out one time but have since lost my work. We also had a discussion about it on the EZ-Board forum so it might be there - but I wouldn't know where to start looking for it. I believe it occured just before the early '90s collapse.
  24. Well he was started in RF right from Spring Training because it was figured Sheffield would need more days off/DH days than Matsui. Now that both are hurt he's played everywhere, including in CF yesterday for Damon (who was DH-ing). Of course the throw from RF is much shorter in da Bronx negating the arm problem somewhat. Young Melky's been no prize in his short stints so far no matter where they put him; he's screwed up in LF, CF and RF, so who knows.
