  1. MFS62 wrote: Sorry. I thought I had posted a link to the story on the SNY site. If you need one, the story is there The link to SNY is working. It's just that whichever link I click on: the one for more on the story or the one for his stats, both lead me to his stats. No big deal. ]Lastings will start tonight FAN said they just spoke to the Mets; they confirm that Milledge will be up but have not said whether he'll start. Though it makes sense that if he's going to be here he'd start fairly regularly while he is.
  2. IIRC, Bernie Williams had one during ST a few years back and was out for the better part of a month. Adrian Beltre had one and it screwed up most of his year but that was due to some infection/complications because I think he got it from some witch doctor in the DR. Suxx for Nady. Gets his first chance to play full-time and is doing reasonably well ... then splat!
  3. Is it just me or is everyone else getting just a page of Milledge's stats where it says "More" off that link instead of details? Like what's with Nady? Why now? Who's being dropped from the 40-man?, etc Edit: OK. now FAN is carrying the news also. Seems that Nady needs "an emergency appendectomy"!?! That could mean several weeks.
  4. Surprising and disappointing. It seemed like such a natural fit, both for the kid: local product, would likely have been assigned to the Cyclones and the spot where he played many of his HS games; as well as the team: no 1st round pick this year, money to spare, agressively pursuing foreign amateurs, etc. Most reports seemed to assume that this was simply a matter of when and how much, not if.
  5. Trax - 0.8 LoDuca - 3.2 Sanchez - 0.9 Floyd - 1.2 Valentin - 1.0 Wright - 1.1 Reyes - 0.8 Chavez - 1.0
  6. ="Elster88"]Is it fair that Heilman, or anyone, is given a blown save for losing the lead in an inning that would not have earned him a save even if he completed it? Shouldn't it be called a blown hold or something? Well it is a save if he successfully complete the game, ergo it's a blown save for not doing so. That's the problem (just one of many actually) with saves/blown save totals; they only really mean anything when applied to those most strictly fitting the modern closer's role. Set-up guys run the risk of the BS but rarely ever get the chance to complete the save so their S/BS pcts generally suck even when they don't.
  7. I've got a local weather station on my cable and the only storms they're showing are the ones going straight thru Central Queens - first one, then the other. It's like they're moving north to south over the Whitestone Bridge and sitting on top of Shea. I haven't seen a drop.
  8. The Tiggers are staying ahead mostly by pitching so far - which is good because that lineup isn't all that impressive looking. Even with a rejuvenated Magglio Ordonez and Chris Shelton playing out of his head for a month, the Placido Polancos and Marcus Thames's aren't too scary. The Ugly Unit had a no-hitter going until a Pudge single w/2 outs in the 6th. He was then pulled after hit #2 led off the 7th. Bonderman was pretty decent for Detroit: the Yanx weren't hitting much hard but their grounders were finding holes and two should-have-been DPs weren't turned which allowed runs and lengthened innings thus allowing more runs.
  9. EKCELLENTE The Snakes have been playing well in the surprisingly above-average NLWest but have been off my radar screen all year. Seems the only pub they ever get is when they're playing against Barry.
  10. I hope to learn a lot more about the Diamondbacks in the next 20 hours
  11. I haven't heard any Beato news - although, being Sunday night and all, things may be just a bit slow on the news end. I believe the deadline is midnight tonight. If he remains unsigned he'll go back into next week's draft.
  12. OHernandez - 2.0 Wright - 2.0 Beltran - 2.0 Reyes - 2.0 Bell - 1.0 Bradford - 0.5 Valentin - 0.5
  13. ]But sure enough, it's happening again this season. Is it a flaw, or bad luck? Is it happening again? Remember that the theory is that it's the number of balls becoming hits as a pct of balls-put-into-play that is mostly due to chance. Those walks in the last few outings (plus any HRs) wouldn't enter into that. In any case, his 2006 data is still too small a sample size to draw any conclusions I think.
  14. Actually the Gints are coming here (we've been out there already). Not that Barry going for #715 in NYC would have caused anything resembling a media circus. I was actually hoping he'd do it on the road to the deafening applause of dozens. BB2N only devoted about 1/3 of their show tonight to this HR while ignoring the results and/or highlights of 6 or 7 other games - including our contest. Look, it's news whether we want it to be or not and it deserves some coverage ... but they've turned that show and the whole network into the 'All-Barry' channel.
  15. Lou was def out of his element. He doesn't really express himself too well (although some AL umpires might disagree with that) and doesn't appear to know the players well enough to add much. I don't remember him being this bad when he filled-in during some post-season telecasts a year or two ago. Also, congrats to CF for actually spelling Piniella's name correctly. Posts in our IGT left that second 'i' out every time, which isn't so bad - a common occurance actually - especially when the FOX graphic listing the announcers you were listening to did the exact same thing! They corrected it later in the game but I got a kick out of their first attempt.
  16. btw, the final was 7-4, not 7-3.
  17. <---- I'm the game's hitting star! Glavine - 4.2 Wright - 2.4 Castro - 1.1 Beltran - 1.0 Franco - 1.0 Bradford - 0.2 Wagner - 0.1
  18. Of course this countdown isn't reaching fruition until at least next year. And even then it may or may not happen here.
  19. Messier than it should have been ... but I'll take it.
  20. This game has become much tougher than it ought to be. Put an end to it please.
  21. First Reyes GiDP of the year - and it keeps us from seeing Petit in from the pen. This game really hit a wall round about the 6th inning. The first 5 were done in barely an hour. The last 4 have taken nearly two.
  22. This alarmist's alarm has been canceled due to a shortage of alarm.
  23. Turns out that they waited 2+ hours in order to play the bottom of the 9th. The Yanx promptly got 2 on w/1 out before Sheffield knocked in 1 with a (slightly) mis-played single. So w/1st & 3rd and only 1 out in a one-run game it looked like the Royals were going to find a way to go down to defeat number 14 consecutive ... and then Giambi GiDP'd. So the night wasn't a total loss.
  24. This all reminds me of the Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) line from 'Annie Hall': 'Don't you see the rest of the country looks upon New York like we're left-wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers? I think of us that way sometimes and I live here.'
  25. Martinez - 4.5 Beltran - 0.5 Reyes - 1.0
