  1. Two more LOBs - as Green makes his first out of the day - but a much better LOBs/Runs ratio this inning.
  2. Those damn French don't know how to pronounce anything! There's also an NHL player with that name (which is where I stole the nickname from).
  3. 10 LOBs thru 4 -- only 2 short of the possible max!
  4. Strong head sports figures in smaller one-newspaper towns - like LaRussa, like Whitey before him, like any number of college football or basketball coaches - tend to get used to being able to spin a story their way. This one, I'm sure, is attracting outside interest and is therefore tougher to contain and between it and the Cards slow start this season there have been several stories of LaRussa getting all ornery and butting heads even with his usual press detail.
  5. We temporarily don't suck: Perez single ... botched pick-off - Reyes double
  6. If this is a contest to see who can leave more runners on base then we're kickin' ass!!
  7. I want Ryan Theriot just for the best nickname: Ryan The Riot
  8. Wright - 3.0 Delgado - 1.0 Pelfrey - 1.0 Smith - 1.0
  9. The worst part for the strength & conditioning staff is that the Yanx just changed to a whole new crew this year - and, while it's certainly early to be jumping to cause-and-effect conclusions, this doesn't look good on the new S&C guys. "It was going to happen. That was the sense in the dugout," Torre said As long as you say so. * Hey, I'm Cliffy!!
  10. Beltran - 2.2 Reyes - 2.1 Green - 1.0 LoDuca - 0.7
  11. I was obviously thinking of division championships rather than league wins. I'm banned from this quiz for setting a record for dopey answers per minute.
  12. Yeah, he apparently banged an arm and cut his chin ... or something like that. Doesn't sound major.
  13. D'oh, forgot about that one.
  14. El Duque was NOT in the Bronx in '96 so does NOT have 4 WS rings. The one about pennant rings has to be a close duel between Willie (4 as a player + ? as coach) & Glavine (11)
  15. I answered yours last night -- no can do is the answer.
  16. Spring was not too kindly to you Chan, the bats one step ahead, and your stuff not worth the chance. Between the established vets and young turks, there was no gift for you, of Met pin-strip-ed pants. Now Chan Ho Park is starting out at Shea, all the Marlins batters lick their chops. Someone get the pen up by the fourth. 'cause I don't think that I can take it, and I don't think he can fake it, and we just might need to have him start again. Oh noooooooo ... Ohhh nooooooooooo!
  17. Seems like an odd rule for the umps - all 4 of them - to whiff on, and then to suddenly come around on an hour or so later. The Orioles eventually protested the game based on the umps adding the run three innings after the fact. I once had a softball ump tell us that the score had to stand after we told him that our announced score of 4 runs for the previous inning was really 5 after re-adding. "Too late" was his explanation, "what you said then is your total even if wrong". Now I have no idea if his stubbornness was even correct and realize that a weekend game where each team is responsible for keeping their own scorebook is hardly the same as MLB, but I wonder if MLB has a rule covering a time-frame as to when runs have to be acknowledged? If the umps could screw up the initial play they are certainly capable of screwing up a much more obscure ruling governing run calculation if one even exists. If there isn't any such rule and runs can be tallied up to the final out of the game then the Baltimore protest doesn't stand a chance.
  18. That Unassisted Triple Play was pretty funny. - First of all it was pulled off by that rookie SS Troy Tulowitski who we just saw for the first time the other day. Dude's in the big leagues for about 20 minutes and he turns one of barely a dozen UTPs in MLB history. - and he should really get credit for about 5 outs. After snagging the line-drive; he stepped on 2nd, tagged the runner coming from 1st (the runners on 1st & 2nd were off w/the pitch) tagged him twice I think, then went back step on 2nd again before deciding that that wasn't enough so he threw to 1st. Jeez kid, act like you've done this before Okay?!
  19. Maine - 5.25 Beltran - 2.5 Franco - 0.5 Wagner - 1.0 Schoeneweis - 0.5 Reyes - 0.25
  20. Good catch.
  21. Both were sent back to NY a day early to get checked on. - Valentin to get his knee that he seemed to tweak on Saturday checked out. - Meanwhile Ducky complained about "discomfort in his shoulder" which could be anything from nothing to long-term. The immediate problem is that he's scheduled to go Monday. If not him it would still be Pelfrey's regular day on account of the day off last Thursday, but after that things would get messy. Jorge Sosa is pitching best in N'awlins but he also pitched on Sunday while Humber & CH Park have been up & down. Obviously calling up any of them would only happen if it becomes a DL situation.
  22. Yanx wind up winning the game with their worst pitcher(s) going and losing the two with their top guys. Who knew Kei would be better than Dice-K or that Mientkiewicz would be their main RBI guy? ... but that's why you play the games. Some MFY fans (cough, Francesa, cough) were so sure that Pettitte would come through on Friday (cuz he always does) that it was almost treated as a sure thing. After all, they got rid of Big Unit in favor of Andy since he won't blow leads like that other bum. Ooops. Now, in addition to their pitching woes, Abreu, Damon, Cano & even ARod to an extent, are in slumps.
  23. Obviously it brings Kile to mind. That was 5 years ago, also on a day when they were to face the Cubs, also a national TV game (that was a Sat afternoon FOX game) that wound up getting canceled.
  24. Glavine - 2.6 Beltran - 2.0 Wright - 1.0 Green - 0.5 Easley - 0.5 Franco - 1.4 Sele - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.5 Schoeneweis - 0.25 Wagner - 0.25
