  1. Pelfrey - 3.9 Beltran - 2.4 Delgado - 1.3 Milledge - 1.1 Feliciano - 1.3
  2. An additional perk to thumping the Braves - hopefully 3 times after tomorrow - is that we can put ourselves in the position to root FOR them when they play the Phils next week.
  3. Nice job Pedro ... but we only play 9 innings in this league. (see him run towards the dugout like there was more to go?)

See where Encarnacion of the Reds got smoked in the face while in the on-deck circle Friday night? Had a helmet on obviously but it didn't help in this case. I'm almost surprised that doesn't happen more often. And then when you figure that in a lot of these new stadiums that there are fans not a whole lot further away than that ...
  5. ]Ricky wearing armor in the coaching box.....on his elbow I suspect that was Castillo's which Rickey then temporarily inherits upon Luis reaching first. Franco PHs and actually pulls a ball !! Now Diaz PHs and strikes out which also means Atlanta has a worse LFer for the 9th inning. Killer inning for Feliciano -- I'll take it.
  6. G*D D*M*M*T That's FIVE this week! That should be almost a season's worth. We can't keep giving away outs like that.
  7. Wright's fielding is MUCH improved from early in the year and in virtually all aspects: charging bunts, starting DPs, smothering hots shots, throwing on the run, etc. Still gets a little wild if he has too much time on his hand but that's a minor nit picked. As for the rest of the game -- other than the fact that we're running into too many outs (again) things are going along very smoothly I'd say. We even survived a Mota inning.
  8. Yanx' main competitors all get a chance to make up ground while they were in the midst of being two-hit by a DevilDog rookie ... and all of them blew it in agonizing fashion. - Detroit scores twice in the 9th to tie up Oakland ... then lose it on a walk-off hit in the 10th. A Piazza double led off the inning and his pinch-runner was singled in. - Boston goes into the 9th down by 4 to Baltimore. They score twice and put two on with just one out ... and Varitek hits into a game-ending DP - Seattle goes into the 9th down two to Toronto. So they load the bases with one out ... and then hit into a game-ending DP I hate them all.
  9. Duque probably back on track for next weekend against Houston. No official word on Pedro re: Monday, but unless he woke up this morning with his shoulder falling off no one believes it won't happen.
  10. Maine - 4.7 Delgado - 2.3 Reyes - 1.1 Anderson - 1.1 Heilman - 0.8
  11. DocTee wrote: Isn't that how Anaheim added Frankie Rodriguez (K-Rod) to their WS championship squad?? Yeah, but even then there was something fishy about it to the point where the MLB offices later admitted it never should have allowed him to be added. Steve Phillips used to exploit that loophole all the time back in those 99-00 days. He'd put some injured low-minors player with no shot at the majors onto the 40-man roster just so he could "replace" that guy on the post-season roster with a guy who wasn't on the 25 on Sept 1. Since those days they've restricted how much you can play with those exceptions, but it is still possible. This Collazo guy is on a nice roll right now. He appeared in 12 games in August with 24 IP, 0 ER, 16 H, 5 BB, 18 K Overall he doesn't look like a big strikeout guy but he doesn't walk many either and keeps the keeps the baserunners to a minimum -- 1.12 WHiP Hometown is listed as Carolina, Puerto Rico, famous for producing Roberto Clemente
  12. I remember when Scott was young he shone like the sun he shined on the Angel's diamond
  13. Not sure how easy it would be to take a vet like Sele off the roster, even temporarily. There's also probably a DL'd pitcher or two (Padilla?, Duaner?) who can be "replaced" on the post-season roster by a guy like Collazo who wasn't up prior to Sept 1 if he shows enough to warrant inclusion. I know they tightened a few of the loopholes in the rule that allows that sort of thing but it is still possible to swap one player for another under the right circumstances. Meanwhile, Joe Smith is on the Zephyr's 7-Day DL (retroactive to a few days back) so he could be up sometime next week if his "strained biceps tendon" calms down.
  14. - Castro just recently starrted doing 'light baseball activities', or something along those lines. Didn't sound like he'd be back anytime soon. - Valentin was just told today (Forgot where I heard this) that his season is essentially over, that the chipped bone won't heal in time to allow him to play again this year.
  15. ="Zvon"]am I the only one who thinks Wags comments to the press about not wanting to be used in non save situations had anything to do with this? I've never heard - nor heard of - Wagner saying anything like that. Fans can like Wagner or hate him, but during his time here he's been a stand up guy in his comments; calmly taking the blame after bad outings without excuses or whining. The one exception was that 4-walk disaster against the Yanx early in his first year here where he later admitted to not being quite mentally ready to enter that non-save game and thought his performance was off for that reason. But he also apologized to Willie afterward for not being more prepared and vowed that it wouldn't happen again.
  16. ... and just on a general note; lots of day games coming up: Sat - 4:00 Sun - 1:00 Mon - 1:15 Tues - 7:10 Wed - 12:30
  17. A later report (FAN quoting Minaya from earlier today) says that Pedro [u:3311dc4e51]is possible[/u:3311dc4e51] for Monday ... although it sounds probable. Says his bullpen went well but they want to see how he feels tomorrow before deciding whether he starts Monday in Cincy or for the Cyclones in Brooklyn thereby pushing his first ML start back to Saturday. Duque will miss at least one turn through the rotation.
  18. Jose's XBHs: Apr - 16 May - 7 June - 5 July - 14 August - 6 OBA: Apr - .442 May - .349 June - .405 July - .317 Aug - .338
  19. * El Duque has a "foot pain" and is returning to NY to get it checked out apparantly he got hit by a ball but I'm not sure which play * Pelfrey will get the start on Saturday * And PEDRO will slot in for Monday's game at Cincinatti He apparently threw a bullpen today and so all systems are go without an additional minor league start So at the moment we're looking at: Fri - Maine (vs Hudson) Sat - Pelfrey (v Chuck James) Sun - Glavine (v Smoltz) Mon - Pedro (v Cincy ace Aaron Harang) Tues - OPerez and after that I guess it depends on how Ducky's foot and Pedro's body in general are doing.
  20. Wright - 1.9 Chavez - 1.4 Green - 1.0 Delgado - 1.0 Feliciano - 1.2 Milledge - 1.0 Beltran - 1.0 Anderson - 1.0
  21. From the end of Thursday's IGT: KC: "I'm just not all that pissed off for some reason. Everyone can feel the way they want and rant and rave but the truth of the matter is it's coming down to what everyone thought the East would be ... a dog fight between NY, Atl, and Phil ... strap 'em on and get ready for tomorrow nigh' is what I think. 30 games in the balance." and JD: "The trick is to think of them as the '07 Mets and not the '27 Yankees." I agree. The ease of the '06 campaign spoiled some Met fans into thinking that a race that even is in doubt is somehow akin to crushing failure. We've held the lead virtually every day for the entire season to the point where even after a week from hell we've still got a several game lead on two teams at least as flawed as our own. It's now a 30-odd game sprint and we're the ones starting with an edge. We've got 9 more games against the main competition and 6 of them will be at home before the sked ends with a favorable looking final two weeks. Fasten your seatbelts folks - it's gonna be fun. There have been a lot more seasons we'd be begging for this kind of excitement compared to the handful where it's considered a disappointment.
  22. Meanwhile, we're all out of position players, so if we do start to hit around and get some runs Wagner's going to have to hit.
  23. ]Unless the Mets score four runs in the top of the ninth ... Well that's kinda what I'm hoping for. If for no other reason as to not burn him out before the Atlanta series even begins. Not helping that it's going to take him at least 5 batters just to get through the 9th
  24. Nymr83 wrote: with the heart of the order due up Wagner is the right move, even if he's only in there for 1 inning, theres no reason to save him for the 9th if the the big hitters are coming up in the 8th. good move willie. I agree, particularly with all the LHs up (Utley, Howard) and Feliciano already spent.
