  1. ]Don't forget Rusty! I think he even dates back to the Colt .45 days Well sure, but at least with Rusty, as with Andujar, they at least got a couple of good years out of them before moving on. But that whole Lofton/Abreu/Finley/etc, crowd was dealt before they ever really had a chance to contribution to Houston baseball. That group is akin to our Ryan - Otis - Kazmir. * Holy prospects Batman, I'm Lee Mazzilli !!
  2. I think PotG has been under-rewarding Wagner. Not in August, just in general. I've seen an awful lot of small or even non-existant scores even on days when he's put up a perfect inning while protecting a 1-run lead. Even last season - when he wasn't as good as this year and was, at least theoretically, going up against a tougher crew - he still managed to finish 12th. On the other hand, our year-end rankings project partially made up for it - there he finished 7th overall last season and none of the participants kept him out of their personal top 10. Maybe this means that closers tend to be appreciated on the whole, just not on a day-to-day basis.

They lost him in the expansion draft to Tampa Bay, choosing to protect their other young Venezuelan instead, one Richard Hidalgo. Tampa then immediately dealt Abreu to Philly for the one and only Kevin Stocker. Most teams could compile an impressive list of ones they let get away too soon, but Houston's list always struck me as particularly painful: Abreu, Johan Santana (Rule 5), Freddie Garcia, Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley, Kenny Lofton, and even going way back to Joe Morgan.
  4. - Braves eighth: *Gordon pitching* - C.Jones doubled to right. - Teixeira flied out to right fielder Roberson. - McCann singled to center, C.Jones to third. - Francoeur singled to right, C.Jones scored, McCann to second - Woodward pinch-running for McCann. - Thorman pinch-hitting for Ascanio. - Thorman singled to center, Woodward to third, Francoeur to second. * Myers pitching* - On wild pitch, Woodward scored, Francoeur to third, Thorman to second. - Escobar walked on four pitches. - Diaz infield single to short, Francoeur scored, Thorman to third, Escobar to second. - Harris walked on a full count, Thorman scored, Escobar to third, Diaz to second. - K.Johnson fouled out to third baseman Nunez. - C.Jones flied out to left fielder Werth. Braves 9th: - Teixeira struck out. - Pena pinch-hitting for Miller. - Pena grounded out, first baseman Howard to pitcher Myers. - Francoeur infield single to third. - On defensive indifference, Francoeur to second. - Prado infield single to third, Francoeur to third. - Escobar walked on four pitches, Prado to second. - Diaz doubled to right, Francoeur scored, Prado scored, Escobar scored. Teams up by 6 runs in the 8th had won the previous 517 consecutive times.
  5. Don't know what I'd do without ya dude.
  6. I saw the highlights of that Philly/Atl game and it was fargin ridiculous. Braves scored 4 in the 8th then 3 in the 9th and hit maybe 2 balls hard the entire time. And the 3 in the 9th were after 2 out and none on. In all there were at least 5 infield hits, plus several bloops just over the infield, plus a bunch of walks courtesy of the Philly pen. The game-winning hit was a solid shot but even that was just off the tip of the RF's glove.
  7. Braves: 2-out, bases loaded, 9th inning, 3R double Phils Lose, Phils lose.
  8. Atlanta not going away quietly; 8-5 in the 8th, bags loaded and 1 out. And it is, y'know, the Philly bullpen. Myers already in.
  9. Wright - 0.5 Beltran - 0.5 DiFelice - 0.5 Collazo - 0.5 Humber - 0.5
  10. Willie: "Could lose him for a week to 10 days" Probably see a "modified platoon" with Green & Conine with maybe a bit of Marlon mixed in.
  11. Turns out we were looking for six in all the wrong places. 5-2 Philly in the 6th, but Atlanta has 2-on w/none out.
  12. And Humber no longer has a 0.00 ML ERA
  13. Yes, but only I started a new thread about it. We have a Philip Humber sighting.
  14. There are orange dots on the caps?
  15. OK, who's stupid idea was it to start all these scrubs?
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Is Valentin still trying to rehab or did he go under the knife? Shifted to the 60-Day DL in order to make room for the return of Sandy Jr.
  17. LoDuca - 5.0 Beltran - 2.0 Green - 2.0 Mota - 0.5 Schoeneweis - 0.5
  18. Ummmm, there already is one.
  19. * Shorthand for Day Game After Night Game And specifically a 12:30 day game following a particularly loooooonnnng night game, against a bad team, facing a journeyman pitcher, on a travel day, with a day off to follow, yyybbb. Plus; - Delgado looks like he tweaked his hip on a late swing - Castillo already has a bum knee - Reyes is slumping and hasn't had a day off since about 5 Lindsay Lohan rehabs ago - Wright too (the off day thing, not the slumping) - LoDuca isn't going to start a day game anyway, plus he tweaked a thumb tonight - and we're always screaming for Milledge to get in more often - Alou is old - which pretty much leaves Beltran In other words, Willie doesn't get an argument from me if he puts an entire Subs lineup out there tomorrow. If you want those guys to come through when they're called on you gotta get em some ABs every now and then. So say it with me: Wednesday is Scrubs Day !!!! Embrace your inner bench player.
  20. "theres nothing wrong with [sitting Reyes], but don't make it the same day you sit everyone else down" Game's practically in the morning tomorrow (12:30) and I think we'll see wholesale changes in the starting lineup. It'll get the regs a rest from whenever this one ends until Friday night -- and I don't really have a problem with that. * Run, Michigan guy is evil !!
  21. That's right. They're saying that if the game doesn't occur then the physical ticket becomes worthless so the credit will be returned [u:5a1986a121]to the account that bought them[/u:5a1986a121].
  22. I think sitting Reyes for a day would increase the odds of the team winning. He just looks lost.
  23. That's some pretty weak Coffey the Reds are serving up here.
  24. They did have a traveling exhibit a few years back. With more stuff in their possession than they can display at any one time, they took part of their booty on the road to various cities for week-long stops. My guess is that they don't want to do that too often for fear that it'll lessen the appeal for the real thing.
