  1. soupcan wrote: How do McCarver and Buck pose the question that Pagan should be out because he passed Church, when the only reason he passed Church is because the umpires blew the call? Seems pretty stupid to me. Well, Church reacted to what the umps called and Pagan should have too. Pagan was merely following Alomar who didn't seem to notice the call either.
  2. Would have been nice if we could have made a bigger mess out of that inning after the reversal. One more hit breaks that puppy wide open.
  3. I'll take it, but I can also understand why the Braves would be pissed off too. One runner follows the umps call while the other ignores it and passes a runner in front of him and both wind up getting awarded their next base.
  4. I'm not sure what kind of leeway the umps have to reverse judgement calls like that. You run into a whole slew of factors that can't simply be righted by pretending the correct call was made in the first place. It's one of the main reasons why replay rules never work as smoothly in practice as they do in theory.
  5. MUTHA-FUCKA THAT WAS TRAPPED!!!!
  6. I think FOX's radar gun in on steroids
  7. Prediction: David Wright doesn't finish the year with 636 total bases
  8. Gomes was having a tough day prior to that HR. He thought he HRed earlier in the game and was already in his HR trot when the ball bounced off the top of the wall and he was tagged out jogging into 2nd. He then managed to somehow lose a fly ball in the sun while standing in the shade. Cliff had an swesome Cliffy HR last night, a laser into the RF bleacher seats that could have killed any fan who wasn't alert.
  9. At least as long as they don't stuff the thing off in some deep, dark corner or make it accessable only by those on their way to the luxury suites.
  10. Would be nice if the Met memorobilia and tributes were at least in a reachable spot in the new place and not too hard to find amongst all the Jackie tributes. I don't really have a problem with naming the rotunda area for Jackie, but his area should be in addition to NYM stuff rather than instead of or overwhelming it.
  11. New rotation: -Maine today, but then Pelfrey gets bumped and Santana goes on Sunday. Atlanta presumably stays with Hudson - Glavine
  12. Brave bullpen off to a tough start: 12 runs (10 earned) in 16-1/3 IPs including 4 HRs & 8 BBs
  13. Usually ARod only gets flipped the bird at Fenway, not attacked by one.
  14. KABOOM cereal and that evil looking clown was the original HR graphic. It gave birth to all the subsequent KABOOMs
  15. I'll start with those two early Philly series
  16. ]but I'm sure they meant in the snowball effect where the pitcher will blow the lead, and then give up another couple of runs to put the game effectively out of reach for the team's offense in the bottom half of the inning. And Benitez did that how often?
  17. Phils beat Nats in the 10th on a walk-off walk which followed two intentional walks. Tigers were swept at home by the Royals That Cueto guy from the REds struck out 8 of the first 13 guys he faced. Wound up going 7 and got the win.
  18. Majerus is a long-time friend of Francesa from the days when he was heavily involved in covering college hoops so it's not a surprise that he'd be complimentry. But, of course, this isn't really about that so much as it's about Francesa's self-image of staying above the fray which makes it prime tee-off material for Mushnick. What I always get a kick out of is that M&MD always make a point of saying how they don't read or pay attention to the likes of Mushnick or his cohorts like Raissman, Best or Sandomir ... but never fail to notice when they're a subject of their columns. MF: "we only know about it because people tell us" Oh!
  19. "I'm not much of a fan of bunting, either, but I agree with Dusty here" One run down it'd be a lot different, but I just hate giving up the out and would rather take 3 shots at getting the guy in from 1st than 2 shots from 2nd. And while others things (most of which I'm not aware of from just seeing the highlights) do factor in - like the PHs already used you mentioned and the upcoming hitters - that the hitters behind Encarnacion are weaker is all the more reason to let the one good bat you do have (E.E.) swing away IMO.
  20. btw, anyone see the highlights from last night's Reds/Snakes game? The Reds get runners on 1st & 2nd down by two runs in the 9th and Dusty has Edwin Encarnacion bunting !?! After two lame tries at laying one down he finally takes the bunt off ... and Encarnacion hits a 3R walk-off. THAT is what you call winning despite a manager's strategy, not because of it.
  21. Reds rookie Johnny Cueto - making his major league debut - is perfect thru 5 against Arizona ... and now he gives up a HR to Justin Upton to lead off the 6th. 3 - 1 Reds
  22. ... are up on the Phils and Jamie Moyer 5-Zip after 2 Washington scored all 5 in the 1st and then loaded the bases w/none out in the 2nd but failed to score. 8 hits in 2 innings off Moyer although 3 Phillie errors (1 his own) haven't helped.
  23. Well no one says you need to like Kornheiser. But the larger point is that there's a spate of new shows copying the 'PTI' format but at least 'PTI' grew out of the genuine chemistry that already existed between TK and his Wash Post collegue Michael Wilbon as opposed to some manufactured 'two guys screaming' gimmick. So not only are these new imitators treading on old ground but they wouldn't be as good even if they were fresh.
  24. ]Who are these fucking guys? Why would I care what they think? Are they beat reporters? Do they have any credentials? Aren't they just two guys who work for SNY? SNY recently launched two new shows to go along with the existing 'Daily News Live' to cover its late-afternoon/early evening slots which is manned by those on their own staff plus whoever's on the fringes of WFAN. What I suspect you're seeing (I rarely watch the post-game stuff) is the result of SNY trying to cross-promote these new shows by using clips from them to expound on points that come up in the post-game. Basically, the success of ESPN's 'Pardon the Interuption' has spawned oodles of imitators and, unfortunately, the whole 'two guys yelling at each other' format is annoying unless is comes with the unforced chemistry and humor of Kornheiser and Wilbon. You can just tell that in most of these other cases the opposing viewpoints are scripted simply to create an argument, a format which doesn't work unless it's real (like in PTI) or if it's satire and accompanied by intros like 'Jane you ignorant slut!'
