  1. Schneider 2.5 Wright - 1.0 Pagan - 1.0 Beltran - 1.0 Church - 1.0 Easley - 1.0 Heilman - 1.0
  2. There, I said it. You see that kind of GiDP about once a season at most and only tried a scant few times more than that ... I WANT the runner breaking on contact there. If they go for the 1st-home DP they probably won't get it (turned out to be tailor-made for Prince). If they go for 2 the coventional way and don't get it you score, and if they do get it it doesn't matter what you did. The worst would be to wait to see what they'd do and THEN go -- I saw Barry Bonds run into a triple play like that once. btw, I was OK with his slide too. He had nowhere to go. Just shit luck all around IMO. 14 hits and 8 BBs and "only" 7 runs on account of 5 DPs of varying descriptions.

Nymr83 wrote: I was out all day maybe someone can explain this to me, why does a pitcher go 5 scoreless innings, throw only 68 pitches, allow only 3 baserunners, and get yanked from the game? the pitcher is greg maddux for SD against LA today. Would have been late for his tee time otherwise. Nats snapped their 9-game losing streak agains the Braves. Glavine left early with a tight hamstring. Francisco Lirinao returned to the Twins after a long absence for TJ surgery (so-so outing) as did BJ Ryan to the Jays (got the save). Johnny Cueto of the Reds got roughed up by the Pirates after 2 good outings to start his career. DBacks stay hot BoSox up 3-0 on the Skanks after 1 inning.
  4. Yup! In fact, if Pelfrey does NOT move up when we evaluate things at the end of this season, both he and our season are in real trouble.
  5. For an explanation (or at least a partial one) go to the 'Rankings Forum' and read the opening post in the 'Rankings for Dummies' thread. And remember that Pelfrey's Met career hasn't exactly been stellar to date. P.S. Mike Pelfrey was ranked as the 27th best player in 2007 - an 88 win team. Steve Beiser was ranked as the 27th best player in 1997 - an 88 win team. So actually they're tied for 498th best Met and Beiser was given the edge due to that all-important tie-breaking factor ... alphabetic order.
  6. As horrible as Castillo's been so far this season let's not go overboard on account of the current small sample (what is it, 6 games?) and start killing Willie as if he's been purposely steering some proven low-OBA guy to the 2-hole. Castillo's put up a .369 OBA over the last 3 seasons including a slightly higher mark during his partial year Met stint.
  7. Santana - 2.0 Muniz - 1.0 Wright - 1.0 Delgado - 1.0 Beltran - 0.5 Pagan - 0.5
  8. Easley's probably covering 2nd during that bunt (Willie almost never "wheels" it). I think - as did Gary & Ron - that it's Wright job to get back towards 3rd after seeing Johan was going to get to it. Johan's also got to look the runner back there, he had the time. I'm not sure Castillo has a ball out of the infield yet. You've heard of warning track power, he has 'mound' power.
  9. Even Rusty's, when it (they) existed, weren't designed as Met-centric places. They were more a reflection of Staub's interest in food as an off-season/post-career business. The original did have a sports motif to the decor - the best being a display of all 20-whatever Rusty baseball cards in progressive order, plus a sequence of photos from his crash into the wall catch in the '73 NLCS - but was still more restaurant than bar and didn't feature the assault of TV screens you'd see in a place like those ESPN-Zones which are as much theme-park as eatery. IIRC you could probably see a TV set or two if you were right at the bar but that was about it. His shorter-lived midtown joint had no sports theme to it at all and was more designed towards catching the post-work/pre-theatre crowd. btw, Mantle never owned that place on CPS (he maybe had a tiny piece). Mostly he just leased his name to it and agreed to occasional appearences as a way to generate some income after blowing much of his career earnings. Imus used to suggest that the place ran a contest where you'd get a free dinner if you could guess what table Mickey was under.
  10. Well, Gagne has given up runs in two of his three outings so far this year. 3 in one game, and 1 in the other.
  11. - No Reyes today (definietly) and probably not tomorrow (my guess). Seeing as how there's an off-day Monday I think they'll opt for the 4 days rest. - Castillo back in the saddle today. Pagan leading off (I like it) and Easley as SS (don't take too long Jose) - Duaner pitched in AAA yesterday. If he feels good the idea is to have him go again today, then maybe back here by next week.
  12. Figeroa - 4.5 Heilman - 0.5 Smith - 0.5 Wagner - 0.5 Pagan - 2.0 Wright - 1.0 Casanova - 1.0
  13. Coco's an OK player if you either need a go-get-em CFer or a cheap 4th OFer sparkplug-type type off the bench. Problem is, we already have the former and he's too expensive for the latter. Pagan fits both roles as well as Crisp would and is younger and less-encumbered by contract to the point where he's easily disposable if he can't hack it.
  14. Kendall's a weird player. Always had a good BA & OBA with virtually ZERO power -- I mean we're talkin' Iso-Power numbers (SlgA - BA) in the .045 to .060 range which is like Luis Castillo/worst in MLB territory (Lg avg ~ .150) Then last year ALL his numbers took a dive and he started to look cooked (.242/.301/.309) as Oakland dumped him on the Cubs in mid-year. With those stats he deserves to bat [u:18aa68fbe7]10th[/u:18aa68fbe7]. This year, the most surprising thing about his line so far is the 5 2Bs in just 26 ABs when it usually takes him 400+ ABs just to get 20. And while he might be a good defensive catcher in most respects his CS% have been awful in recent seasons, meaning that if we ever do get some guys on base we might be able to run a bit.
  15. Binghamton split it's first 8 games (going W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L) - Jonathan Niese is looking good in his first 2 starts; giving up 1 run on 3 hits & 2 BBs, 10 Ks over 11 IPs - 1B Mike Carp hitting .409/.462/.909 with 3 of the team's 4 HRs - Fernando Martinez, hitting leadoff so as to garner the most ABs, is off to a slow start (.192/.241/.385) although is coming off a 2B & HR game Roster/Stats
  16. I didn't see a B-Mets thread.
  17. Here's the deal: - signed extension 12/20/07 (avoided arbitration) - 08:$7M, 09:$10M, 10:$12M - $1.5M in award bonuses based on Cy Young vote I don't know that I was so anti-Dontrelle prior to that Tiger trade as that I was against describing him as a "must get" or whatever trade terms were being thrown around at the time. He's still an intriguing guy, but is definitely living off the rep he built up duing his one or two good years and big lefties with lots of moving parts in their motion have gotta be a bitch to fine tune or, worse yet, deconstruct and rebuild.
  18. Nope, they gave Dontrelle a contract extension just as quickly as they did to Cabrera. Not as long or as expensive, but he's theirs for the next 3 years or so.
  19. Binghamton split it's first 8 games (going W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L) - Jonathan Niese is looking good in his first 2 starts; giving up 1 run on 3 hits & 2 BBs, 10 Ks over 11 IPs - 1B Mike Carp hitting .409/.462/.909 with 3 of the team's 4 HRs - Fernando Martinez, hitting leadoff so as to garner the most ABs, is off to a slow start (.192/.241/.385) although is coming off a 2B & HR game
  20. ]I don't get the Duran reference. He wants "no mas" to do with grounders? Hands of Stone The line about Utley's defense is the only one that really means anything (assuming that he's being totally serious). He did look a bit slow on some grounders over the last few days, although I never thought of him as a defensive detriment before. But if he truly is on the road to becoming poor enough to consider a switch to a corner OF position that's something that'll diminish his value a bit even though he's got enough bat to play anywhere for the time being.
  21. Also; - Curtis Granderson's been out - Justin Verlander's been lousy. - Dontrelle Willis had a one-hitter thru 5 innings the other day ... with 7 walks. - Kenny Rogers is even older than he was last year -- as are the rest of us come to think of it ... but we're talking about a guy who refers to Glavine as 'Sonny'
  22. Maine - 2.4 Pagan - 2.2 Reyes - 1.0 Schoweneweis - 1.0 Smith - 0.5 Feliciano - 0.8 Sosa - 0.4 Wagner - 0.7 Church - 1.0
