  1. Gary said last night that they were told it was "not logistically feasable" to set them up that high. Still, even in the lower rows of the upper deck reserved you're sitting pretty damn high.
  2. Alou needs the rest after his tiring 3 innings last night.
  3. The EK Society stuff is pretty funny. Joe Baddabingo was deep into the Heilman hate causing me to flick it off after about 3 minutes. It wasn't so much what he was saying (as if bashing Heilman this morning is going out on a limb) but his tortured logic behind it; the part about how Heilman's troubles are due to his sulking on account of the Mets "screwing with him" by confining him to the bullpen. Of course why this 'punishment' apparently just started getting to him since last month - seeing as how he's coming off a season and a half of being almost exclusively the 8th inning guy with a 3.14 ERA and 1.05 WHiP - is not quite explained. I was thinking 'Smith' last night before Willie made the change seeing as how the two thing you wanted there were either a GiDP or at least to keep WM Pena in the park - something Smith theoretically specializes in. Maybe Willie was spooked by the thought of Acta countering with a lefty hitter (they hit ~.325 off JS) and Heilman had gone his last 5 outings with 7 IPs, 1 R, 5 Hits, 7 Ks & 2 BBs ... meaning that the "I knew it" crowd is either remarkably prescient or were wrong 5 of the last 6 times and are neglecting to mention that in their Thursday morning crowing sessions.
  4. - Marlins wound up scoring 6 runs in the 9th to tie the Reds and I'm starting to think that maybe there IS going to be something going on down there this year ... and then they lost it in extras anyway. - Yanx held on for a 2-1 win and Joba did NOT do his fist-pumping, whirlling dervish, primal scream routine after K-ing the side (plus one walk) in the 8th. Such a classy guy. - And did anyone see Manny last night? O's have runners on 1st & 2nd w/1-out. Long drvie to LF which Manny catches on the dead run heading for - but still 4-5 strides short of - the wall. So rather than slamming on the brakes he continues his run and uses the wall to stop his momentum. But did so by running up the wall, taking a sec out to high-five a BoSox fan in the front row, before bouncing off and hitting the cut-off man at deep SS who then gunned the ball to first to catch the runner not yet back and complete the DP. Now I know what you're thinking: Manny hit a cut-off man?!?!?
  5. Two hits off of Tim freakin' Redding can't be dismissed.
  6. ]Quick trivia question: which Met was named Claude? Skip Lockwood

  8. Story of the year so far for Heilman: He almost gets out of the inning.
  9. Never liked it either. I remember the theme song so I probably watched it a handful of times or maybe I just shut it off after the intro. I think the "new" style of Japanese illustration made it seem like it wasn't a "real" cartoon to me.
  10. It started out as a nice little parody of another thread ... just got a bit lost along the way is all. As a general rule, while it's not like there are tons of "real" people dropping in on our little corner of the world here, it's probably still a good idea to post with the idea that you wouldn't be tempted to run away from your writing in the event that some outsiders do drop by.

  12. Mid-season pickup of a long man = El Duque
  13. "I had comic strips on my bedsheets when I was little" Admit it, you still use them don't you?
  14. Rays could go 48-75 for the remainder of the season and still finish with their best record ever ... and I don't think they're gonna do that. Yanqui fans looking at these last two nights are realizing how old they look. If nothing else they could always count on pasting TB pitching -- until this week when they've been held to 2 runs over 20 innings. They've also lost their Pettitte and Wang games and are now looking at Mussina & Kennedy against Kazmir & Shields to avoid either a sweep or a 3-1 series loss.
  15. So would I, although PH-ing for Maine at that point was definitely the right move and Tatis's hit was a big part of the winning rally.
  16. Well we still have a DH next week and we still need a 5th starter until Pedro resurfaces so Vargas is up until he's either not needed or is swapped out for a Bostick type. As for the long man .... umm, no one, at least not with that title. I suspect if a starter gets into trouble early that Schoeneweis and/or Wise would be the first ones up and you just gotta patch it through after that.
  17. I suspect that's in reference to the 59 she shot once during a round - something that's only been done a handful of times (like 3 or 4) by either men or women in tournament play.
  18. Maine - 3.5 Church - 2.4 Sanchez - 0.4 Wagner - 0.4 Reyes - 0.8 Schneider - 1.5 Alou - 0.5 Wright - 0.5
  19. Rays beat Rivera with walk-off single in 11th
  20. A Matsui HR ties it up in the 9th Volquez keeping the Reds down, Reds lead 5-2 in the 7th.
  21. Yeah, that was the '01 ASG when Bobby was manager and Cliff read his A-S snub as something personal from Vee. He eventually made the team as a sub and the two sort of kissed and made up. I think sometimes peeps decide to hate BV in advance based on rep more than actual fact.
  22. Would you two get a room!
  23. You can still Sturdivant if you want to (inside joke from before your time here)
  24. - Braves get one in the 9th ... but fall 1-run short to the Phils - Rays shutting out Yanx 1-0 in the 9th. Edwin Jackson and Troy Percival trying to complete the whitewash.
  25. Both said during their initial post-signing press conf that they wouldn't have come to the Mets had BV still been the manager. Glavine, IIRC, recanted somewhat afterward. Not quite sure that's "spitting on his grave" but whatever.
