  1. Rumor has it that the make-up (if needed) will be played Saturday (D/N DH of course) rather than Sunday. The Saturday game is surprisingly NOT a 4PM FOX start (Boston-Milw is) so a D/N DH is now in play on that day where usually it wouldn't be in a subway series.
  2. Yanx pen is LHP-less these days (unless they've kept off-Kei Igawa around, I've lost track) so that might be a help to us. - Mariano & Joba are their main guys obviously. - Fransworth has actually been better this year after most fans wanted him not only cut but deported as well. - Ohlendorf is just OK even though Yanqui-nation wants to tell us how good he'll be one day so they'll have something to show for the Randy Johnson deal - Edwar Ramirez is the skinny-looking dude w/glasses who lives off a good change-up which means he tends to be either good for an inning or get totally bombed. - Dave Veras and LaTroy Hawkins are basically being used for mop-up
  3. Carp, IIRC, had some Horrible splits vs LHP last year -- like sub-.500 OPS bad. And that was in AA. If we need to press him into service he'd probably need a RH caddy to go along with him (Tatis?)

  5. Slowing down wasn't the problem. Walking into 2nd and coming to a complete stop before deciding that 3rd base was a possibility and then having to re-start w/no momentum was. If you go in even thinking about the next base then you lessen the chances of falling behind the eightball.
  6. Rasner's been quite good in his two starts since he was called up to replace "the kids" who weren't pitching well. Pressure is definitely on the NYM - and Santana specifically - in this game since the matchup favors us. Pettitte started out OK but has been lousy lately. He gets 3 good innings in then starts falling apart in the 4th. Wang's been very good this year and deserves every bit of his good record - as opposed to the last few years where he won games when he pitched well but also won a bunch of them when he pitched lousy.
  7. Vargas - 3.5 Snith - 0.5 Feliciano - 0.4 Schneider - 1.5 Beltran - 1.0 Chavez - 0.6
  8. Keith played with Oberkfell, I wonder what his opinion would be? Of course he's not going to publicly spout one until the firing squad is already set and their about to tie on Willie's blindfold and light his cigarette.
  9. You can cast a wide net during the mid-season if you're willing to have a three-manager season. They could fire Willie, let HoJo (for example) hold down the fort for a couple of weeks, while they openly search for a replacement. Sure, but first you're going with a stop-gap who you pretty much admit isn't the guy you want (and does that really solve anything except blood-lust? And then there are going to be numerous potential replacements who aren't available mid-year because they're under contract (BV for instance). Carter is managing an independant league team in California.
  10. ="metirish"]Reyes had a slight hesitation , that didn't help , Slight hesitation? -- Hell, he had all but stopped by the time he got to 2nd, which is the first problem right there. If he went into 2nd *thinking agressively* he'd be in MUCH better position to pull it off. Instead, he looked as if the play first occured to him right then, at which point he had to re-start from a dead stop and out-race the guy to 3rd. btw, it wasn't the 3rd baseman getting back to 3rd (he was fielding the bunt) it was the SS Guzman who realized *before Reyes did* that 3rd was open and therefore took off sooner. It ws similar to the play where Jeter got his shoulder busted up on opening day a few seasons back. In that case, it was the catcher covering up the uncovered base. ]I would like to add that I can't fault him for being aggressive. As noted above, if only he WAS being agressive. At least not soon enough.
  11. ... it wouldn't bother me if the Mets reached for an unorthodox choice not necessarily on anybody's radar. Maybe Oberkfell or Manuel is the right guy. I hope that if/when the Mets do make a move they cast a wide a net as can be cast midseason. Of course there's only so far a mid-season net can be cast -- which is something to consider when contemplating a change, particularly if it's just for the sake of making a change.
  12. Davey has publicly said he'll never manage again If Willie's 'passive demeanor' is part of the problem, hiring Manual will replace him with maybe the only guy even more placid than Willie. I'm not sure how that placates the wolves.
  13. I heard the beat guy for the local ESPN radio station (forget his name) talking about this. He point was that while he could see Wagner's point he thought his ire to be misplaced in this case. No names were mentioned in Wagner's mini-rant, but he gestured over to ther Reyes / Beltran / Delgado corner of the locker room when he made the "oh, they're gone - what a shock" comment. Problem is, both Reyes & Beltran HAD talked to the press already - and at a time including while Wagner was there. Delgado was elsewhere but he also wasn't a major part of the game the way Reyes - on account of his 1st-to-3rd dash, and Beltran - with his 'go on contact' play, were. If Wagner wants to have it out with Delgado over ducking the scribes after the game (as has been hinted at before) it's fine with me. It's not that I'm hanging on the quotes these guys make in the post-game, but the matter of not sharing the load can cause some problems among the crew. In any case, I'm sure someone will run with this "controversy" until the point where it's blown up to explain everything from Reyes's lack of hitting, to Heilman's sour puss, to the price of gas.
  14. Anyone got any realistic suggestions?
  15. When did following a team or sport become a contest about trying to prove how pissed off and negative one can get?
  16. Oh good, I was hoping for another 'this team stinks so much I'm going to kill myself even though it's still May' rant. Can't get too many of those.
  17. And I'm sure that as soon as the new guy is named they'll start to hit immediately.
  18. Pelfrey - 4.8 Castillo - 0.4 Beltran - 0.4 Anderson - 0.4 Wise - 1.0
  19. You can write this one off to a Murphy's Law kind of game but when you get 8 hits (or whatever it was) over two games you're not going to do a lot of winning.

  21. A runner has got to be on his own on that play as it's all in front of him. That dash to the (briefly) unoccupied 3rd base is the same one that got Jeter's shoulder fucked up a couple years back as he, the ball, and the catcher doing the emergency coverage all arrived at the same time.
  22. That's a bad move while trailing.
  23. OK so the pitching change turns out to be a 'Wise' choice -- now somebody's gotta get a fuckin hit or two. Probably going to see Rauch.
  24. Pelfrey would have a better shot at a win if he hadn't screwed up his first bunt attempt.
  25. Aaron Bleepin' Boone I never get excited about these things until at least the 7th ...
