    Angel

Just call him Angel in the morning
  2. I guess Melvin doesn't like the idea of playing the infield in with a slap-hitting, hole-finding Castillo ... but I still thank him for his IW
  3. I'm not too wild about bunting in front of the player voted in his yearbook to be the boy least likely to hit a deep fly ball.
  4. All praise the God of top-spin! I thought that was an easy GiDP.
  5. Nice inning Jorge!!
  6. Relievers use on Saturday: Sosa - 1.0 IP, 15 pitches Heilman - 1.0 IP, 28 pitches Sanchez - 0.1 IP, 25 pitches Probably best explains why Sosa now and not either of the other two.
  7. Yup. We're walking too many this year. * upon looking it up -- 4.0 per/game (before today). Not the highest in the league although higher than the league avg of 3.7 We've also hit 14 although I don't know if that's high or not.
  8. I heard it was going to be Darling/Martinez too. Their roll-out announcment mentioned nothing about Kitty. But that's OK, I always liked Kaat so it would be good to catch him on a TBS game that doesn't conflict with a Met game. He did Yanqui games for years up here (that was the job he supposedly retired from) and not only was he a good nuts & bolts announcer but he was the one guy who didn't let Steinbrenner or one of his peons dictate to him what he could and couldn't say. Actually, the hell with announcing - after all these 3+ hour games I wouldn't mind watching Kaat pitch a couple games too.
  9. bmfc1 wrote: Jim Kaat's no dummy but at least look at the uni number or the way they throw: there was a shot of the Mets BP and Kaat said it was Heilman. Is Kaat doing the TBS broadcast? - I thought he had retired.
  10. ="TheOldMole"]On my cable (TimeWarner) TBS is blocked. As it is everywhere in the NY market - and the Phoenix one too I'm sure. But those out-of-town NYM fans should be getting this game on their sets. This new package gives TBS a nationally televised game every Sunday afternoon but, unlike the FOX game on Saturday, they DON'T get an exclusivity window so their game is up against all the regular regional games and is blacked-out if the local market is carrying that specific game. With FOX on Saturday, not only is it their feed instead of the local one but no other games are even allowed to be scheduled at the same time as the the one designated as FOX's GotW plus 1 or 2 backup games. What that tells you is that FOX pays a helluva lot more for their rights than does TBS.
  11. This game is also the Nationally televised WTBS Game of the Week that some of you not in the NY area might pick up on Santana (3-2, 3.12) vs Dan Haren (4-1, 3.13) Haren is coming off a win vs Houston where he pitched 7.2 innings giving up 3 ER on 5 hits, 1 BB and 5 Ks Prior to that was his only bad game of the season, a 6 R (5 ER), 9 H, 2 BB in 4.2 IPs thrashing in LA
  12. Delgado - 2.0 Church - 1.0 Casanova - 0.6 Sosa - 0.5 Heilman - 0.4
  13. Yeah, but little stuff like that only gets to fuck up innings when the first two batters of the frame are issued free passes. * I get to be like Mike!!
  14. ="SteveJRogers"]Apparently though Rizzuto was more of that caricature during the 80s and 90s as he was getting up there in years, and in his prime he really was a polished announcer. Rizzuto was less of a character when he was younger (remember he basically moved directly from the field to the booth) but he was never what one would call a polished announcer. ="bmfc1"]Now don't get me started on AZ color guy Mark Grace And lookie who we get on FOX for today's game!
  15. TheOldMole wrote: Alou not even a day game after one night game? He only had a game or three of rehab work and has said that stamina is going to be his biggest obstacle at the moment. Then throw in that minor fact that he's 41 and I think 4 or 5 day workweeks might be the best recipe for him, at least for the near future.
  16. So does this mean Santana was the PotM for March? Seems to me that I would include the occasional stray March games into the April totals but if that's not the way we've been doing it ...
  17. ]the media and fans would have given Hernandez a pass for it because "they would have done the same thing." In fact it probably would have enhanced Hernandez's "winner" mystique based on the fact that he didn't want to face seeing the Red Sox celebrate on his home field after such a great season. Replace the name 'Hernandez' with 'Delgado' in a similar situation and does he still get the same pass and mystique or does he get skewered for abondoing the team while thinking only of himself? Possible answers: a) No way I'm lying Now replace the Game 6 comeback with a Carter pop-out and does the Keith story retain the same warm fuzzy feeling? a) No way I'm going to pretend so
  18. The score/inning situation makes the decision to send not as critical as we (mostly me) are making it -- it's just that it's either bad judgement (if he thought Jose could make it) or bad reasoning (if he thought the cycle was worth the risk) which raises a red flag for when the same deal comes up at a different time. But Jeeez, start with Reyes on 3rd and 0 outs and he probably scores 90+% of the time anyway so what's the point?
  19. Maine - 2.5 Wright - 2.2 Reyes - 2.7 Church - 2.0 Smith - 0.4 Sanchez - 0.2
  20. I know it's a bit early to be playing scoreboard and such, but with the entire East ('cept Wshington) winning tonight and tough pitchers in store for the next two games, this win was a biggie ... at least in early May terms.
  21. Stupid send with no one out and I REALLY hope they didn't do it just so as to complete a fucking cycle.
  22. NYC (or half of it anyway) not only put up with but embraced Rizzuto as an announcer, complete with all his homerisms, WW's, off tangent stories, dismissals of the entire National League, bad syntax, etc. I'm sure Chicago's response to criticism is that sure Santo's a train-wreck, but he's OUR train-wreck.
  23. So what was the answer to the trivia question anyway? My guesses were Drysdale and Rhoden but I must have been out of the room when they answered it. Maine's gotta learn to get by on fewer pitches.
  24. btw, Friday - 9:40 EDT - Maine vs Owings (SNY) Saturday - 3:55 EDT - Pelfrey vs Webb (FOX Network) Sunday - 4:10 EDT - Santana vs Haren (Ch 11)
  25. ="Benjamin Grimm"]I remember that commercial too, as well as Tim McCarver expressing his disbelief during a Mets telecast. He went to Hershiser and asked if that was actually true, and Hershiser confirmed that it was. (If I remember correctly, he showered eight times a day. YouTube, anyone?) My memory is going with five x/day. And was it soap or shampoo? I'm thinking 'Head and Shouders'
