  1. Argenis's last 30 plate appearences - dating back to Aug 18: 13 Regular Groundouts 2 GiDPs 2 infield liners/pops 5 Ks 3 outfield flies 2 singles 1 BB 1 HBP 1 Sac Bunt So not only is that 2 for 27 (.074 BA & SLG) plus a walk, a HBP, and a Sac (.133 OBA) but only 4 balls even left the infield: 3 OF flyouts (two of which were described as "short") and a ground single up the middle (the other hit was an infield single).
  2. Knight - 1.3 Beltran - 2.9 Schoeneweis - 0.4 Ayala - 0.3 Reyes - 1.9 Murphy - 1.0 Delgado - 1.5 Schneider - 0.7
  3. Remember also that these odds take the future schedule into consideration, so that every game we erase off the sked now makes those four against the Cubs next week a larger portion of the overall remainder. I'm sure that has at least a bit to do with it - although I doubt their model takes into consideration what effect an early Chicago clinching would have on the game-to-game odds in that series.
  4. And the thing about Easley is that Jerry had been saying for weeks how he shouldn't be playing everyday because of leg issues. But then even after Castillo was activated Damion pretty much did play everyday and now he's not available at all. A couple of Castillo starts here and there might have prevented that.
  5. I go back to the May 28th game against Florida as my favorite. In what was his 8th game as a Met and only 3rd start, his 2-RBI 2B into the LF corner with 1 out in the 12th scored both Wright & Beltran to knock off the first-place Fish after they had taken a lead on an Amezega HR off Sanchez in the top. Wayne Hagin: Wright scores to tie the game and now all eyes turn to Beltran ...
  6. I get the frustration with Met fans over Castillo: the contract, the injuries, the lack of any kind of punch, etc., even though I find much of it over the top. I think I heard yesterday that he's responsible for the Lehman Brothers collapse. But I don't get how quick fans seem to be to embrace players like A-Rey, lauding light-hitting glove men - usually with non-descriptive terms like "gritty", "scrappy" or "throw-back". Some of it is merely because they're not the guy they replaced. There was a bout of this last year during the early days of Carlos Gomez as loads of fans were volunteering to drive Milledge to the airport because the next best thing had been found. I didn't get that one either. Reyes now has around 1 month's worth of MLB ABs and has 4 walks and 1 extra base hit in that time. Put another way, not only is he getting on base to the tune of .100 points less than Luis (aka: making outs A LOT more often) but in approx 1/3 the ABs he's got 1/11th the XBHs. When you're that far behind Castillo's weak point it doesn't say good things. There's also not a lot in his minor league career that suggests this is an aberration or an adjustment, nor, unlike CarGo where you could dream about the future, is he all that young (turns 26 next week). In short, I don't care how good your fielding is it can't possibly make up for the hole in the lineup. He's a fill-in. Unfortunatley we kind of need that now. P.S. He's 0 for his last 22
  7. I'd prefer Castillo if he's healthy but I'm not sure he is.

  9. 10-3 final in Tampa. Now a 2-game lead over Boston.
  10. I think I'm going to give all 25 pitchers we used tonight a .01 score in PoTG
  11. They ought to have in-game announcement when Sheets doesn't leave the game with some sort of injury. 6-1 Brewers in the 7th and they're threatening for more ... oops no, Flyout-DP. Looks like we're going to end this night right where we started it - although with an extra game's space ahead of Houston.
  12. No more baserunners and the tying run can't come to the plate. Repeat as neccesary.
  13. The Prince of Fat clears the bases with a 2B. Milwaukee has 3 on the board with no outs in the top of the 1st.

  15. The thing about Tatis is that, for all the lines about how he was here only on account of being "one of Omar's boys", he spent all of 2007 in the minors and began this year there also with no guarantee that he ever was going to be called up even though he was playing reasonably well down there. Not a lot of guys his age would do that and, when finally given the chance, he took advantage of it.
  16. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but damn! we could have used just one of these yesterday.
  17. Knight's run should be charged to the 1st base ump.
  18. Reyes, Church, Wright, Bletran, Delgado in the first two games of this series: 3 for 37, all singles.
  19. Do we know the times of games from that list?
  20. He bailed this team out more than anyone else not part of the opening day crew - and considerably better than some of those too.
  21. ]... you'd have to subtract the six teams added since. But I bet the average attendance is still better. Not merely better; - but better for every single existing club - approx 2.2 times better on average for existing clubs - approx 2.65 times better for MLB as a whole - 1973 shows 7 teams failing to draw 1 million vs 2007 where just 2 fail to draw 1.5mil - 2 teams out of 24 drew 2+mil in 1973 vs 24 of 30 in '07 - 5 teams drew 1.5mil or more (Ana, Cinc, NYM, Det, StL) then vs all but the two Florida teams now BTW, the "sparse crowds" in Miami and Tampa you deride today would have been known as 'above average' in 1973, finishing 9th & 10th out of 24 teams including ahead of both Chicago teams, Anaheim, Baltimore, San Fran, Atlanta, and, oh yeah, the Yanquis
  22. Nothing's been said about that aside from the initial post-draft speculation. He was injured and only played some in the field during this short-season so they probably want him to get steady SS time.
  23. No, but we could take ALL attendance figures from the early '70s and compare them to now, but you're just going to ignore those anyway since you prefer to start with the answer first and then only use the data which conforms to the pre-dertermined conclusion.
  24. ]Shows you what an event driven culture we are living in today Not to mention how far baseball's popularity has plummeted since then. Oh wait!
