  1. Sean Marshall (LHP) -- 31 games, 6 starts, 60 IP, 3.62 ERA - will start in place of Rich Harden Tuesday night against Santana
  2. Leyritz was apparently there last night but was not mentioned in the intros. Clemens and Torre were also neither mentioned nor shown on the various highlight films.
  3. If I though for a second that Endy could actually hit I might switch them up. But he can't.
  4. A minor help, but Florida lost this afternoon.
  5. Just saying that that's how Martin died (see article above) out driving around with his drinking buddy on Xmas Day while his new wife sat home alone. And that if you were going to pick someone most likely to wind up in that situation, it would be Billy.
  6. I never wish bad things to happen to people, but if you were going to make a list of those you suspect might wind up drunk and dead in a ditch on the side of the road while his new bride (his 5th I believe) sat home alone on Christmas Day there aren't a whole lot of candidates you'd put there prior to Martin.
  7. First of a three-game set starts tonight in Philly with JA Happ vs Jair Jurrgens This is a return matchup from last week's game when Happ, making his first ML appearence in 2 months, out-pitched Jurrgens by tossing 6 innings of 3-hit, shutout ball while the Phils were reaching Jurrgens for 4 runs on 5 hits + 5 walks in 5 innings. Milwaukee is off today, awaiting a 3-game visit from Pittsburgh.
  8. Alvarez and Pittsburgh agree to a new deal, reportedly worth as much as $1million more (different accounting methods vary) over the life of the deal as compared to the negated one from last month. This avoids the arbitration hearing that this mess was headed for.
  9. Washington hooks up with Syracuse Florida with New Orleans Toronto to Las Vegas
  10. [u:a70b9233ef]Game 156; Monday , Sept 24 - Nationals @ Mets[/u:a70b9233ef] Nats 13 - Mets 4 Pelfrey (5.2 IP, 7 R, 5 H, 5 BB) vs Matt Chico (5.1 IP, 3R, 9H): It's not easy to out-hit the opponent and still lose by 9 runs. Issuing 9 walks helps of course. So does leaving a bushel full of runners on base - A Delgado 2B and a Gomez SacFly get the Mets on the board in the 2nd - Pelfrey cruises for the first 3, but allows a 2-run single in the 4th then a 2-out/3R HR to Austin Kearns in the 5th and it's a 5-1 Nationals lead. - Smith replaces Pelfrey with 2-on and 2-out in the 6th ... and promptly allows a 2-run double to Ronnie Bellieard (7-1) - Mets get two back in the bottom of the 6th, but Mota allows three more in the 8th and Dave Williams 3 more in the 9th (Langerhans 3R HR) making the Mets solo run in bottom 9 just window dressing. Off day for the Phillies Lead down to 2 games even; Magic number stays at 6 N-HOP goes to 5 of 12 (41.7%).
  11. I hope no one else was already doing one of these .. probably not. So I figured we could use one seeing as how it's been so long since we saw them (April) and, if nothing else, we might need to know them for next week too. C - Geovanny Soto: .285/.362/.504; 23 HRs Probable Rookie of the Year 1B - Derrick Lee: .293/.360/.462, 19 HRs Not the MVP-candidate that he was a few years back before a wrist injury derailed his season, but still dangerous and a good glove 2B - Mark DeRosa: .282/.374/.471, 20 HR; or Mike Fontenot: 288/.381/.509 - 9 HRs, or maybe Ronnie Cedeno: .279/.344/.363, 2 HR DeRosa was the regular 2B but has played 6 different positions in all and is as likely to be found in RF these days as anywhere. SS - Ryan Theriot: .301/.379/.355, 1 HR 'Ryan the Riot' forms, along with Fontenot, the other half of their Louisiana born 'French Connection' infield 3B - Aramis Ramirez: .287/.378/.516, 26 HRs Think Pittsburgh is enjoying the services they're getting from Jose Hernandez, Mike Burback, and Bobby Hill that they got in return for trading Ramirez to the Cubs in 2003? LF - Alfonzo Soriano: .289/.352/.554, 29 HR Maybe the best season of his career even though he's missed several chunks w/injuries. Much better OBP than in recent years. CF - Jim Edmonds: .260/.377/..574, 18 HR The rejuvenated Edmonds doesn't play everyday but is back after looking absolutely done early in the season in San Diego RF - Kosuke Fukudoma: .258/.359/.375, 9 HR Got off to a great start on this side of the Pacific but his season is a tale of two halves; he's hitting .212 w/2 HRs over his last 150 ABs and is sitting as much as playing. Good bullpen, a lot of power arms: Closer Kerry Wood may have found his niche: 31 saves, 3.43 ERA, 1.13 WhiP, 80 Ks in 63 IP Carlos Marmol - Better first half than second, but throws a lot: 78 G & 83 IP. Will walk his share (39 BB) but also [u:7abad3d2ef]39 Hits[/u:7abad3d2ef]!! a 2.67 ERA and 0.92 WhiP Jeff Samardjza - Called up this season after landing a huge signing bonus to keep him out of the NFL draft (All-America reciever at Notre Dame). Is a bit raw still (13 BB in 24 IP) but throws upper-90s with a killer slider. Neil Cotts - Seems to be their main LHP, 45 G, 33 IP, 4.18 ERA, 1.36 WhiP Monday: Marquis (10-9; 4.39) - Niese Tuesday: Harden (5-1; 1.66 as a Cub - 10-2, 2.04 overall) - Santana Wednesday: Zambrano (14-6; 3.77) - Perez Thursday: Lilly (16-9; 4.17) - Martinez
  12. Welll yeah, but he only got high marks from the Latvian judge on account of the fact that he fucked the Latvian judge. I think the rules committee needs to look into this potential conflict of interest.
  13. ]We deserve fucking medals Do they award medals for fucking? Maybe the fucking competition from Beijing was on one of those premium channels I'm not paying for which would explain why I was unaware.
  14. Pelfrey - 2.7 Delgado - 3.5 Wright - 1.8
  15. Or chronological maybe? Bernie would be the most recently retired "old-timer". I didn't see it either.
  16. Unfortunately the Braves understand the value of tack-on runs
  17. Doesn't help when 1-2 in the lineup put up an 0-10
  18. duan wrote: this is shocking. What's shocking is that it's not shocking at all.
  19. Sometimes they take turns sucking, and sometimes they all suck at the same time.
  20. ="bmfc1"] I'm not sure what that means. It means he's selecting each of them reluctantly and because there are no other better choices.
  21. I hope someone explains to Pelfrey that the reson he didn't get a win today is that he couldn't get down a bunt.
  22. YOU GOTTA BE FREAKIN' KIDDING ME!!
  23. "the Mets scored all their runs in the first two innings" A recording of Gary/Howie/Wayne saying that is going to be track one on the 2008 soundtrack album.
  24. seawolf17 wrote: Jeez. Bill Hahn's moustache makes him look like he's in Witness Protection. Or the Village People. Gary throws out a 'You don't mess around with Bill' comment that no one either picked up on or just didn't respond to ... but I'm sure he was going for a reference to Hahn looking like Jim Croce and his 'You Don't Mess Around with Jim' album.
