  1. Do you suppose we can keep it under 30?
  2. This is the worst offense in the league, right?
  3. [bigpurple:2yzjtl64]QUIT WALKING GUYS!!!![/bigpurple:2yzjtl64]
  4. Oh you gotta be kidding me!!
  5. It's raining hits out there with Met guys on the mound although not a lot of them are of the hard-hit variety. Well, except for that one by Hairston.
  6. ... in order to make room for Lidge. And so it goes.
  7. Angels won their 2nd consecutive game on a walk-off HR - this time by Howie Kendrick and with a much more subdued celebration at the plate. I was always kind of surprised that the umps allow the players to crowd the plate on walk-offs while the game is technically still going on rather than back them off a bit and let them have their celebration a few feet away. It's still just a flukey injury but maybe by trying to land on the plate when you really can't see it is what caused him to hit awkwardly.
  8. The guy the Tigers brought up when they DFA'd Willis - Max Scherzer, one of the players obtained in the off-season 3-way involving the Yanx & Snakes (the Granderson deal) - started yesterday and [u:11d122xa]K'd 14 in 5-2/3 IPs[/u:11d122xa] (0 ER, 2 H, 4 BB) so it's paying off already.
  9. The SoCal teams always play at night. Guess they figure everyone is at the beach during the day and won't come to the game. Plus, it could be worse, 4 teams (all in the AL) don't play today at all.
  10. Dickey - 2.1 Dessens - 0.3 Rodriguez - 0.2 Francoeur - 1.5 Blanco - 1.4 Reyes - 0.9 Castillo - 1.1 Pagan - 1.5 Wright - 0.9

This was one of the craziest contracts ever - partly because he had already turned more unreliable than Ollie but mainly because he was still a ways away from FA meaning they didn't have to give it. They dealt for him (and Cabrera) in the off-season (Dec '07) and THEN extended his deal two weeks later before he had even played a game for them. I remember warning several here (Soupcan among them) that he was too risky to trade for but I had no idea he'd bomb this bad. Too bad, he always seemed like a good guy to have around and I hope he hooks on somewhere (just not here).
  12. Marlins turn the tables and shutout the Phils 1-0 today (on a 4 hitter). That's 5 shutouts of the Phils and a total of 7 runs scored in the last 8 games. The only thing that suxx is that they somehow managed to win 2 of them.
  13. This Coffey guy skunked us a couple times in the last few year IIRC. Suddenly the flow of runs has been cut off.
  14. Holy shit!! Also in the Yanx game ARod banked a liner off the Cleveland pitcher's coconut. Was conscious but hauled him off on the stretcher anyway. That was in like the 3rd inning. seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" later had a 7 run 7th to erase several early Yanqui leads.
  15. Hey, we held Hart hitless and that's now two half-innings with zeroes in them. We've still got a long way to go here - but this one will STILL probably be quicker than today's Yanx game. The newthreadaphobia in this place continues to amaze me.

Certainly the Ben Francisco shot the other day was a HR just about anywhere else, and prolly a couple others too. Still a nice run though.
  17. Now at 27 innings and counting: Dickey = 6.0, Takahashi with 6.0, Pelfrey with 7.0, and Santana's 8.0 last night. It's also 2 ERs over the last 7 games/46.2 IPs - the last run allowed being that RBI fly ball single Cervelli thought he hit out of the park. Hart's HR was the first allowed by any NYM pitcher in 86 innings.
  18. Santana - 5.5 Barajas - 1.0 Reyes - 0.5 Feliciano - 0.2 Bay - 0.3
  19. Would have been nice to get that call at 1st on Braun. We didn't get any of the 'coulda gone either way' calls tonight.
  20. And another close, well-pitched road game goes down the drain.
  21. The fact that Braun is 10-for-10 in steals surprises me. Maybe it shouldn't, but it does.
  22. In all, I think this should be the basis for future team prez/owners when evaluating possible GM candidates: Would you ever, or under what circumstances would you, trade a Steven Strasburg? Not that there's a specific correct answer, but if I'm hiring someone with the power to make those decisions (or even suggestions) with budgets being what they are today I'm sure as hell going to want to know the job seeker's view on something like that. You should never say never, but Phillips' problem is that goes too far the other way. Taking the idea that prospects don't always work out he essentially just lumps Strasburg into the generic 'hasn't proven anything yet' pile and therefore rationalizes that the bird in the hand is automatically better without regard for the specifics of this particular case. He also justifies it by painting a very rosy scenario of the upside: make the playoffs --> more money this year --> heightened fan interest --> increased attendance next season, etc., almost as if those are a given outcome of pulling the trigger.
  23. Y'see now, my first thought was: Fredonia's going to war ...
  24. You may be witness to his final minor league start. The Nats are being coy about exactly when he'll debut but are hinting that it's to come during the June 8-10 series v Pittsburgh (at home naturally). Don't want to get too specific so as to better sell speculative tickets to ALL those games. Meanwhile, if he does get one more in AAA it'll likely be against Buffalo sometime around the June 3 weekend.
