This is going to start so soon that you may even get a baseball discussion going on ESPN tomorrow during breathing breaks in their constant LeBron/Kobe/Celtics/Phil Jackson gab-fest.
  2. Jim Joyce, Don Denkinger. Don Denkinger, Jim Joyce.
  3. The only thing you can say in Joyce's defense was that the play was "funky" looking. 1B Cabrera ranged REAL wide towards 2nd and had both a long throw and had to wait a beat or two to get the timing right. Galaraga covering caught it but was doing little dance steps to hit the base rather than those long running strides which are much easier to see. Maybe Joyce thought he missed the base or maybe he mis-saw which one of the steps hit it.

  5. So with Joahn nearly perfect thru 8 in his last start he comes out after 105 pitches but in this one with a similar number he not only stays in but leads off the inning?!?!?
  6. btw, like the Hallady game, this is a 1-0 cliff-hanger at the moment (Tigers batting bottom 8) so it's not like the win is even in the bag. There's a theory that more no-hitters/PGs occur during low-scoring games based on the idea that the pitcher has to bear down more rather than just chuck it up there and let 'em swing. Not sure if that bears up under numerical scrutiny but I'm going with it.
  7. We got the benefit of the call on that DP - but that's one that's probably not even close with a neophyte 2Bman out there (yes Muffy, I'm looking at you).
  8. 3 to go. His "longest" inning so far is 11 pitches.
  9. 4 outs to go - Branyan up.
  10. Mets are getting their asses kicked in the 'time of possession' stat so far.
  11. Atlanta 2 - Philly 1 That's a sweep for 'Lanta and 8 straight overall. Were 6.5 back on May 17, now 1.5 up
  12. Cars are not allowed on Mackinac Island, so the place smells like lilacs and horse pooh. But the fudge is really good. And as long as one doesn't confuse the pooh with the fudge I guess things will remain A-OK Henry Ford was crazy So was old man Kellogg
  13. I'd take them seriously if they were based on something real - but if the answer is along the lines of 'Jerry hates Murphy because ... er, because he does' then, yeah, I'm probably not.
  14. got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues and you know it don't come easy Abandoned the TV for bed & radio in the 9th and had a very nervous last inning.
  15. D'Backs deal for Dontrelle, trading RHP Billy (no relation) Buckner to Detroit. Snakes also get like $12 million bucks in the exchange.
  16. That Nats loss to the Astros that they just showed on SNY came right after a Berkman half-swing that could have and should have ended the game but the 3B ump didn't give Capps & the Nats the call. Next pitched he singled in two for the tying and winning runs. Prior to that Houston somehow managed to NOT score a runner from 2nd on a double off the wall. Now Cincy is trying to close out StL in the 9th after another back and forth game. 9-8 Reds w/2 outs in the 9th and bases empty. oe: Reds win, Reds win. And in other 1st place news, Braves beat the Phils again as Howard, representing the tying run, grounded out w/the bases loaded.
  17. Were those all first-pitch hits for Wright tonight? I know at least two of them were, plus at least one of his last night.
  18. 3rd baserunner erased tonight. We're doing this LeBlanc guy some big favors.
  19. How hard can it really be for a major-league player who came up as an infielder to be a serviceable second baseman? If it was easy they'd all do it as you can usually get away with much less of a stick at 2B than at 3B. Or, put another way, a good hitting 2B is considerably more valuable than the same stick at 3B and yet all this time no one ever thought to put Murph at 2nd - possibly because he was just considered a passable at best 3rd sacker.
  20. Maybe Daniel Murphy keeps Cora from vesting? (Doubtful, giving Jerry's feelings about the two of them) Should I ask what Jerry's feelings for Cora & Murphy are and where/how those were made known or is the answer going to confuse me more than if I let it slide?
  21. Barajas - 1.5 Reyes - 1.5 Pagan - 1.0 Wright - 0.9 Mejia - 0.6
