  1. And now my previous thought is back on: Bunt w/Nickeas and avoid the potential GiDP
  2. NOW I wouldn't mind a bunt with Nickeas and leave it up to Hairston & Tejada. oe: Oops, I had the batters in the wrong order ... never mind

I don't like the Valdespin bunt, inviting them to walk our best hitter with 1B open, thankfully they turned down that invitation. Was that a straight sacrifice or more of the bunt-for-a-hit-and-take-the-sacrifice-as-a-backup-plan move? It kind of doesn't matter since bunting for a hit doesn't work when everyone is looking for it.
  4. It's almost like Parnell decides ahead of time what he's going to throw on that particular day. Last week there was that outing where he threw nothing but curve-balls. Today everything is on the outside half.
  5. So who's left on the bench? Just Hairy & Bay, right?
  6. We should probably consider ourselves lucky just to get it tied considering that only one hitter that inning got the ball out of the infield.
  7. Gwreck wrote: Bad call at first: Davis obviously safe. And that's with Jim Joyce umping home
  8. Would've been a close play at home if Loney fielded that one cleanly. C'mon Lucas, send 'em home.
  9. Got that hole over at first because they have to hold [crossout:17o7kywm]Tejada[/crossout:17o7kywm] Wright on.
  10. And, once again, it'll be up to the lefties - and Mattingly doesn't have one in the bullpen.
  11. Not my favorite play, but at least it worked.
  12. But the leadoff hitter is on and this is a chump we can beat. Don't bunt w/Valdy!!
  13. Wow -- Nieuwenhuis got a hit! And off a LHP too! I think that's his first since sometime in May although I'll have to check the records on that.
  14. And neither of them come through and we leave two runners on for the 2nd inning in a row. btw for youse outta-towners, this game is on TBS
  15. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Several tweets about Valdespin, but not saying what he did. What happened? Got a couple of hits, but I don't know if that's what the Tweets are talking about. Mattingly comes and gets the starter with 1 out in the 5th even though he still has a lead. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. We weren't exactly hitting him (most hits were soft) and K-ing a lot, but he was also up around 100 pitches already and so in comes the lefty to face Ike & Muffy with men on.
  16. The Second Spitter wrote: Oaktown pitchers are pitching like somebody stuck a firecracker up their butt in the last month. Yup! Three straight Oakland rookie starters (Griffin, Milone, & Parker) have held the Yanx to a total of 3 runs on 18 hits and one walk over 22 innings. In Saturday's game, another rookie (Doolittle) got his first ML save by K-ing Teixeira, Cano & Jones consecutively following a leadoff 9th inning single from ARod.
  17. The Cubbies ran into a spot of trouble yesterday. It was a scoreless tie in StL until the bottom of 7, when ... ** Germano Pitching ** Freese - infield single ** Russell replaces Germano ** Jay - Bunt pop-out Craig (pinch-hitting for pitcher) - Double Furcal - Single Schumaker - Triple Holliday - Walk Beltran - Double Molina - Int Walk Berkman - Pop Out ** Corpas replaces Russell ** Freese - Double Jay - Double Craig - Double Furcal - Walk ** Mather replaces Corpas ** Schumaker - Double Holliday - Double Beltran - K, but reaches on a wild pitch Cruz (pinch-hitting for Molina) - K That's 12 runs on 3 walks and 10 hits, including a record seven doubles. Final score: 12-0
  18. BA gives him some love on this week's 'Hot List' Team: Triple-A Buffalo (International) Age: 22 Why He's Here: 1-0, 0.63, 2 GS, 14 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 15 Ks. The Scoop: The same week that rumors were floating around that Matt Harvey could be called up to make a July 21 start, Familia reminded everyone that he could help out the big league club as well. Control has been Familia's biggest problem this season (and through much of his career), as he struggled to smooth out his delivery in spring training, but in recent weeks he looks much more like the Familia who excelled in 2011. Pitching with increased tempo, he has walked seven in 24 innings in July after walking 49 in 71 innings before this month. Familia may end up helping the Mets more in the bullpen than in the rotation, but the stuff is pretty impressive.
  19. All of the Dodger runs came with two outs, half of them after two were out and none on.
  20. So since the Murphy triple, they haven't had one leave the infield in four ABs
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: And yet another LAD piece o' shit hit. Followed by an actual one ... and by Uribe of all people. And again it's with two outs.
  22. And yet another LAD piece o' shit hit.
  23. Do the Dodgers even have a hard-hit ball in today's game? Not that we deserve to be winning or anything but between the walks, bad defense, and bloops and bleeders, LA is just being handed this game.
  24. Uribe is hitting .180 and had walked 8 times all year coming into today ... so we walk him twice and, surprise, we get burned by it with two outs again.
  25. Ceetar wrote: This is why they lose when they don't hit home runs, or only hit one-run home runs because the opposition doesn't walk anyone. Well, the Yanx draw more than their share of walks and hit plenty of HRs with runners on (they have 6 Grand Slams, for instance, despite only 17 total hits with the bases loaded). Basically what they've got is a lineup full of guys who are at the stage of their careers where they are now strictly HR swingers. It works despite the lower BAs they're accepting (esp ARod. Martin, Andruw) because everybody in the lineup plus several of the bench players all do the same thing so they know someone will eventually come through even if it takes two strike-outs in the interim. I mean look at freakin' Ibanez; the guy's 40 years old, is hitting .240, but has nearly 50% of his hits go for extra bases. Their runs scored as a result of HRs pct is up over 52% at this point. It's like dealing with a line-up full of idiot savants.
