  1. Well, as the old saying goes; 'Fuck your fantasy team' Milwaukee traded Zack Greinke to Los Angeles Angels for shortstop prospect Jean Segura and a pair of AA right-handers: Johnny Hellweg and Ariel Pena. Doesn't sound like a blow-away deal but the SS Segura is considered a good prospect, is also just about ready (was actually promoted to the majors earlier this week), and young (22)/good shortstops are tough to find. Between that and two high-minors arms it sounds like the Brewers did OK for themselves here in exchange for a two-month rental. And the extra draft [u:3pv39w2e]pick[/u:3pv39w2e] (no longer pick[u:3pv39w2e]s[/u:3pv39w2e]) that the Brews could have netted had they hung onto him for the rest of the season would likely have been a much longer shot than anything they got in the trade.
  2. Geez, does Justin Upton ever run hard? On both of the hits while he was on he had little chance of taking the extra base but by trotting he made sure of it each time. Even if the ball was misplayed he wasn't advancing. Makes you realized why they want to trade him maybe.
  3. Harvey - 3.8 Edgin - 0.7 Parnell - 0.35 Byrdak - 0.25 Hariston - 2.4 Tejada - 1.0 Torres - 1.5
  4. Hefner - 2.0 ERamirez - 0.8 Thole 0.4 Valdespin - 0.4 Davis - 1.4

If all seven played it would be less than a 1% shot, but the fact that last night had the rain-out and therefore only six teams playing increases the odds (doubles them in fact) to just over 1.5%
  6. Harvey not the only one with a good ML debut tonight. Pittsburgh called up highly touted OF prospect Starling Marte today and stuck him in the leadoff spot for their game in Houston. Marte homered on the first pitch of the game and the first ML pitch he saw. btw, if the line were set at 1.5, who would have taken the over on active major league players named 'Starling'
  7. Welcome to the Mets Matt. And, yes, it WILL be this tough most of the time. Trust me on this one. 3 hours + 20 is a lot for a 3-1 game.
  8. Yeah, I was just hoping to get the hottest hitter on the planet up in a righty-v-lefty situation with the tying runs on and the winning run at the plate.
  9. OK, now he does. Now the only problem is that the HBP last inning and the leadoff walk in this one have brought Hill and maybe Kubel & Upton into the mix.
  10. I don't think Parnell's gotten a single swing-and-miss on his fastball tonight despite his usual 95-97 mph
  11. I'd ask the BB gods for a DP ball here but I'm not sure we'd turn it.
  12. Met bats vs Snakes bullpen: 8 outs + 1 single

  14. Eh, I'll give up a run there to get the out.
  15. Now we just need to avoid the one sucky reliever syndrome.

  17. So who was the yummy-looking young dark-haired one sitting next to mama Harvey? -- Sister? ... Girlfriend? ... Wife?

  19. Going to have to change his name to Jason Kue-ball after that "shot".
  20. Braves have "moved on" from Ryan Dempster according to GM Wren - which may be a good thing for Atlanta seeing as how Dempster has recently broken his run of great games to the tune of 2 losses and 7 earned over 12 innings in 2 games. Brewers say they "will move" Grienke sometime before Tuesday's deadline.
  21. Phillips would be more likely to deal a prospect (or more than one) away for something mediocre and established under the line of thinking that; "Hey, they're just prospects and they're probably years away". IOW: Wheeler, or maybe Familia, for Gregorson would be more his speed. "And, what the hell, we'll throw in this Nimmo kid too"
  22. Go west young men. And if you don't win at least occasionally then don't come back. 23. So, Reggie Jackson gets his number retired and Winfield gets his reshuffled. Nice. Well, y'know, it's that whole May/October thing. btw, a quick ARod/Chavez comparison seeing as how Chavez will probably be getting the majority of ARod's ABs for a while: AR: .276/.358/.449; Walk Rate = .084; IsoP = .173; HRs = 1 every 28.5 PAs; XBHs = 1 every 13.3 PAs EC: .269/.324/.474; Walk Rate = .055; IsoP = .205; HRs = 1 every 21.6 PAs; XBHs = 1 every 10.8 PAs Now Chavez has seen only about 40% of the playing time compared to Rodriguez and has, up to now, had the advantage of facing almost exclusively RHPs. You figure that cushion won't be happening as often for a while but this is still not as big a blow to the Yanx as it would have been even a year or two ago especially, oddly enough, in the power department.
