1. =ashie62 post_id=196997 time=1751583417 user_id=90] They said on today's pregame that the Mets don't know who their starting pitcher will be in games one and three against the skanks
2. I was going for the musical reference
3. A pair of lefties going tonight. No, not Bernie Sanders and AOC, but rather David Peterson and Jose Quintana Those two former teammates currently sport identical ERAs (3.30) even if via very different methods. This will be the 12th start of the year for the 36 y/o Quintana as he was out between May 9th and June 1st His K/9 are down a bit from last season and his H/9 and BB/9 are up, so maybe some smoke and mirrors going on. Peterson, meanwhile, needs to right his own ship following his two worst starts of the year: 10 combined runs on 17 H and 6 BB in 8.2 IP vs Philly & Pitt Outings like that will fluff up your old WHIP
4. Paul Blackburn (shoulder impingement) and Dedniel Nunez (right elbow sprain) to the IL These injuries, along with the demotion of Blade Tidwell after his 80 pitches on Wednesday, lead to the latest round of reliever roulette: called up for today are right-handers Justin Warren, Rico Garcia, and Justin Hagenman. Hagenman could start the game in the Bronx on Friday as that was Blackburn's turn in the rotation. The Mets will also need a starter for Sunday's game as the rain pushed Clay Homes's start ahead one day so he won't have the proper rest. I believe this pushes the number of pitchers this year to 87 but I'm going to have to double check that before making a definitive statement on the matter.
5. Pete [737 -- 1090 -- 1150] sometimes seems like he's the only thing keeping this team from being shut out every night. Also Torrens and some marginal gain from Taylor, but neither of them play everyday or gives you much offense to begin with. And it's not just that production is down from the rest of the crew when 'ducks are on the pond' (whether in scoring position or not), it's that it's not even close. Every one of them loses at least 100 points of OPS when bodies are on base with Lindor losing over 300 and Soto over 500 (the latter of which scarcely seems possible). Even when it's a stat as simple as HRs: the Mets are 6th in MLB in the number hit but a shade over 2/3 of theirs are solo (and lately more like 90% *) while the MLB avg is 59% * actually 90.48% -- 19 of their last 21
6. If Skubal doesn't get the call there oughta be a congressional investigation.
7. The key to the whole game may have been that funky bounce off the bat of Senger just ahead of the Nimmo GS The inning is over otherwise.
8. AL C: Cal Raleigh (biggest no-brainer in either league) 1B: Vladdy Guerrero (TOR) 2B: Gleybar Torres (DET) 3B: Jose Ramirez (CLE) SS: Jacob Wilson (ATH) a rookie DH: Ryan O'Hearn (BAL) RF: Aaron Judge (NYY) CF: Javier Baez (DET) nice comeback season LF: Riley Greene (DET) NL C Will Smith (LAD) 1B: Freddie Freeman (LAD) 2B: Ketel Marte (ARZ) SS: Francisco Lindor (NYM) 1st selection as a Met 3B: Manny Machado (SDP) DH: Shohei Ohtani (LAD - Duh!! RF: Ronald Acuna (ATL) has had a nice 150 PAs, but, still, just 150 CF: Pete Crow-Armstrong (sounds like character from Jeremiah Johnson) LF: Kyle Tucker (CHC)
9. Brewers staying in the same time zone (MIA) after this series so, no.
10. Final score: Jays 11 - Yanx 9 TOR: 48 - 38 NYY: 48 - 38 TBR: 48 - 39 oe: just realized that this is a Four Game Series with the finale tomorrow night. Big game on Thursday needless to say as the Jays go for the rare four-game sweep.
11. And it's 9-9 in Toronto (tied up by a Judge 2R HR) still just top 8th.
12. I guess the philosophy there is that you don't change your catcher until you have to. Torrens, the logical PH'er, is a slight upgrade in his odds of getting on base, but Jankowski is a huge upgrade on his odds of scoring on a hit just like Lindor's.
13. I believe every NYM run tonight has come with two outs. THAT is a change of fortune.
14. Ball one was a better pitch than strike one. Wonder if Carlos's bellyaching on the first pitch bought him a call there on the second.
15. Oooh, I think I love that lady.
16. And suddenly the tying run is at the plate with one out.
17. A quickie interweb search suggests that the name Yoho is from the 17th century American frontier and possibly derived from the Germn/Swiss Johann.
18. With a tie for 1st place in the offing, the Jays put up an 7-spot on the Yanx in the bottom of the 1st and have tacked on an 8th run in the 3rd. 8-zip, bottom 4. Yanqui starter Will Warren is still in the game. Andres Gimenez continues to shine for Toronto with 3 hits in the first 3 innings. Plus, Tampa already won their game this afternoon which, barring a Canadian Catastrophe, would put them just 1/2 game in back of a NYY/TOR deadlock. And not too far in back of them, the BoSox won their (suspended from yesterday) afternoon game vs Cincy and have a 1-0 lead in the nightcap which means they could gain a game-and-a-half on 1st place and be just 5 out. So only Baltimore is currently out of the AL East picture.
19. Two 3-1 groundouts that inning and np pitchers were injured in either of them. (I'll take signs of progress wherever I can find them)
20. Worst offenders Lindor: Bases Empty 882 OPS -- Men On 571 -- w/RiSP 566 Nimmo: 820 -- 705 -- 679 Soto: 1134 -- 618 -- 596 McNeil: 917 -- 686 -- 754 Alvarez: 672 -- 626 -- 561 Vientos: 675 -- 603 -- 571
21. Edgy MD wrote: My name is Edgy and I was 99% sure that the park was going to hold Nimmo's shot. I didn't think he got it either. Also wasn't totally sold on Lindor's shot. I didn't see if Francisco and Brandon hugged after Lindor's HR but, if they did, they would have literally gone back-to-back and belly-to-belly.
22. Three walks in a nine batter span is not the preferred method for avoiding big innings.
23. Told ya this was going to be a good game. Ignore that opening post under my name. That wasn't me ... I was hacked. Now we just need a) the staff not to have any blow up innings as has been a virtual daily occurrence lately. the offense not to go into shut-down mode now that they've got a cushion
24. No one wants to start this IGT but, dammit, somebody's got to so I'll take the bullet. We've scored just six runs combined in the last four games but at least we don't have to go up against the hottest rookie in all of baseball ... oh wait, we do. Jacob Misiorowski (RH), all 6' 7" of him, has three ML starts under his belt (16 innings total) and has allowed just two runs on three hits! He's walked seven but four of those were in his first game so just three since. The Mets, meanwhile,, counter with ... well everyone. Brazoban will start then a series of guys who have been lit up recently will try to cover the next 8 innings without embarrassing the franchise. I'm betting heavily on embarrassment. And speaking of betting. I was able to get down a steal of a bet today when I wagered my entire life savings on the US Men's soccer team scoring more often vs Guatemala tonight (in the semi-finals of some recently invented 'Cup' thing) than do the Mets.
25. They hit three HRs, we get two singles.
