  1. That's one of the problems with using multiple relievers to get yourself through a game; all of them have to be on that day or you're courting trouble.
  2. It seems like we've had weak or inaccurate (or both) OF arms for years now.
  3. For a team that can't hit, these Marlins sure foul a lot of pitches off.
  4. Geez, half a page and nobody has mentioned Piazza yet?!!

  6. Meanwhile, we can't touch their just-called-up reliever through three straight innings.
  7. Carson & Atchison do their jobs but now with the #9 spot coming up we're going to be in a situation where we'll use four pitchers to get four consecutive batters.

Ive always thought that odds are Rusty Staub is gay. Even when I watched him play as a kid in the 70s. It didn't matter to me then, it don't now. I loved him. Not carnally, mind you, but as a player I loved him. It's not that I think Keith would be a neanderthal on this issue in general, but he does tend to get a bit traditional about the whole sanctity of the clubhouse thing (remember his remarks about SD's female assistant trainer?) and I'm thinking that maybe his silence as Gary & Kevin did much of the talking said as much as he might have himself.
  9. This game is like one of those Snickers commercials .... Not going anywhere for a while? 5 innings in just under 2 hours. I keep looking for the Yanx & Sawx

No comments from Keith on what he would have thought during his time - even if we acknowledge that it was a long time ago. Things we have learned from Kevin. Robert Carson's uncle is gay, Ike Davis has a sister that is lesbian. You sure hope that it was understood by all ahead of time that such things were OK to become public knowledge.
  11. Mets took two of three at CF during the second series of the year. Game 1 - Mets were getting their baserunners vs Alex Sanabia but not pushing across any runs. Hefner left down 1-0 after 6 and watched while Burke & Rice fell apart to the tune of a 5-run 7th, many of the runs unearned courtesy of an inning-opening error by Tejada. A Muffy 3R HR closed the gap a bit but even that plus the 2 runs in the 9th only made the 7-5 score look somewhat respectable. Game 2 - Niese held them to 2 runs over 6 but took an 'ND' as the bats needed 2 in the 6th, 3 in the 7th, and 1 more in the 8th to secure the win. Game 3 - Two in the 9th via Tejada, Nieuwenhuis & Byrd stole the rubber game after being down 3-0 at mid-game. So what is there to say about the Marlins? That they suck on account of trading away every player over the age of 17 or who was making more than $9.75/hour even after being handed a virtually free stadium where the artwork in the place is more valuable than the talent? DUH!!! So just how bad are they? Well, theyre 6-19, have yet to win two games in a row, and have managed to compile a negative 46 Run differential (67 - 113) before the end of April. Theyre last in Runs Scored/Gm by nearly a full run Theyre last in Team BA by 10 points, SlgP by 50, and OPS by almost 80 Their team slash line is .220/.281/.309 and their lead-off man (John Peter) has an OBP 45 points below even that piss-poor standard. They entered Sundays game with just one more HR than John Buck That their players are so anonymous, even to the 3,000 or so fans who show up regularly, that one of the fishes in that tank behind home plate was the fans choice for the next bobble-head day. And then on the pitching side theyre 3rd worst in the NL in RA/G (NYM are worst) and dead last in baserunners allowed (WHiP) Have I mentioned that theyre not very good? Have I mentioned that we need to take a minimum of two games here (and preferably all three) or the season is headed down the shitter in a real big hurry? MONDAY 7:10 Harvey vs Jose Fernandez The 20 y/o Fernandez made his ML debut against the Mets on April 7 with a 1-run; 3-hit; 8-K; 5 inning outing. This wound up being the game where we won with 2 in the 9th via that well-placed bouncer inside 3rd base by Marlon Byrd After that Fernandez had another good outing (2 runs over 6 vs Phils) but followed that up with two bad ones where he surrendered 9 runs on 12 hits over a total of 9 innings vs CINNY & MINNY TUESDAY 7:10 Hefner vs Kevin Slowey Slowey, who has seemingly been on the verge of decent for years now yet usually falls short and then missed all of 2012 with injuries, has turned in five pretty good starts this year but has nothing to show for it except an 0-2 record despite a 2.43 ERA. Hes gone at least 5.1 innings in all of his starts and has held the opposition to 1 run in three of the five. Not a lot of Ks per/9 (6.4) but also keeps the walks down (1.8) Mets faced him once back when he was with the Twins in 2010 WEDNESDAY 12:40 Gee vs Wade LeBlanc The Lefty LeBlanc is 0-4 in 5 starts and has pretty much earned that record with a 6.20 ERA and 1.78 WHiP Mets faced him 4 times in 2012 including twice in starts where NYM bats managed jrang up 13 hits + 4 walks in 9 innings ... and yet managed only 2 runs. What do you need to know about their offense except that all starters are hitting under .250 save for Placido Polanco (.286) and their HR leaders (Stanton plus something named Ruggiano) have just 3 each. Only Ruggiano has reached double digits in RBIs Giancarlo is starting to heat up after sitting on the interstate with zero HRs until just a few days ago. He hit his first HR on Saturday and then two more Sunday. So, you know, as in the words of Sgt Phil Esterhaus, lets be careful out there. The SS you barely heard of, Adeiny Hechavarria who had an annoying 5 hits during the series at CitiField and then 2 since, has been replaced by one youve never heard of: Chris Valaika Closer Steve Cichek has given up 8 runs (7 earned) in 11 outings/innings. Set-up man Jon Rauch has an ERA just shy of 10.00 [9 earned on 11 hits in 8.1 IP] NYM legacy Ryan Webb is having a good start out of the pen (although we smacked him around in his one appearance from the CF sereis) as is Mike Dunn their only LHP out there (so expect to see a lot of him) Good points: Thanks to the dome we won't get rained out and the temperature will be in baseball range for the first time since maybe that early series in Philly when it nearly hit 90

SI going to reveal this this week inI don't know whyI guess a dramatic attempt to sell a magazine, I guess. [...] I have the story here and I'm not compelled to run and talk about it or read it. I really don't care. I can't be any more honest. I don't care. Translation: I didn't have the scoop
  13. Judd Hirsch & Christine Lahti have been under assumed names and on the run for two decades on account of crimes committed in the name of 1960s anti-war radicalism. But the running and changing identities get tougher with two children in tow, especially when one of them grows up to be the teenaged, talented and heart-throbby River Phoenix.
  14. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=darlin001edw He mentioned on air a couple days ago that he had a brother drafted by the Yanquis right around the same time he, Ron, was being drafted by Texas. No place of birth is given but the age and draft years are about right and the Hawaiian middle name adds evidence as well.
  15. Jack gettin' hisself some NY Post ink No mention of Chipotle
  16. Took an 'L' in Friday night's game vs Akron: 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 Hits, 2 BB, 8 Ks ... so that K/BB ratio 'plummets' to 35/3 Bingo bats imitated the big club by getting themselves shut out and K-ing 16 times There were a couple of questions asked about him this week in 'Baseball America' (where he made honorable mention in their 'Hot Week' list). * A question about when he'd be called up got an answer of: next year unless the big club is contending * Another reader questioned his fastball but the answer there was: low-90s to peaking at 95 so no problems there
  17. - Sanchez wound up with 17 Ks (in 8 innings) vs the Braves in a 10-0 rout - Reds got 1-hit by the Nats for the 2nd straight game (Gonzalez + Soriano on Thurs, Zimmermannnn w/a complete game on Fri). Makes our recent noffense look good by comparison. - Blue Jays loaded the bases vs Mariano down by two runs but then the sum-bitches couldn't push anything across.
  18. Did he break it pumping his fist (as he seems to do each and every a Yanqui pitcher records a strike-out)?
  19. At least it was quick(er). We've been playing some long-ass games so far this season.
  20. It was never a secret that ownership didn't really want the ASG. The benefit to the home team is more image than financial and during the later 80s they simply didn't think they needed the boost. By the 90s, not coincidentally as the Wilpons gained full control and as the new wave of stadium building boomed, MLB was increasingly interested in showing off the newer parks and the 'Pons were increasingly embarrassed by the age/condition of Shea.
  21. The thing is, if the guys on the current team really hated him they wouldn't have bothered with the pie. Nobody who's not at least partially one of the guys gets invited to play in their reindeer games.
  22. "Chooch" Ruiz will be back from his [crossout:3lmqt7i7]vacation[/crossout:3lmqt7i7] drug suspension and eligible to play again starting Sunday.
  23. Andy Martino in the Snooze writes about Valdy and his "troubles" over time. The main theme is: some improvement. He still has a ways to go", says one un-named veteran teammate, "but he is getting better.
