  2. That's, what, five RBIs following IWs for Flores? Not bad for your first week in the bigs. That'll teach 'em to walk Ike.
  3. Thoughts on the (in progress) game 1) There are a lot of very juvenile type signs at the ballpark there. Not juvenile as in the message, just paper stuff w/magic markers that look and reads like they were made by 4th graders during recess 2) that techno-pop walk-up music used by one of the Arizona players (Parra, I think) is a crime against the senses 3) that double was the best ball Ike has hit since his recall, he has several doubles but many of them have been bloops or just strategically placed 4) REALLY dumb base-running move by Flores, our third dumb-ass move on the bases in the last 13 innings.
  4. Good Guys: 1) Eric Young, Jr. LF 2) Juan Lagares CF 3) Daniel Murphy 2B 4) Marlon Byrd RF 5) Ike Davis 1B 6) Wilmer Flores 3B 7) John Buck C 8) Omar Quintanilla SS 9) Zack Wheeler - P Bad Guys: 1) Adam Eaton CF 2) Martin Prado 3B 3) Paul Goldschmidt 1B 4) Aaron Hill 2B 5) Cody Ross RF 6) Wil Nieves C 7) Gerardo Parra LF 8) Cliff Pennington SS 9) Brandon McCarthy RHP
  5. Gee - 4.8 Aardsma - 0.4 Hawkins - 1.2 Murphy - 0.9 Recker - 0.9 Flores - 0.9 Byrd - 0.9
  6. Harvey - 5.0 Buck - 1.0 Davis - 0.6 Quintanilla - 0.6 Flores - 2.8
  7. Ya can't get out-XBH'd the way we were (I think it was 7-2) and expect to win -- and you especially can't get out-XBH and turn the few you do get into outs and expect to win.
  8. Hey look at that, Ike disagreed with a called strike on the outside corner!! Never seen that before.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Probably right thing to change the mind, there, Teuf, but get it right the first time. Definitely the right call (Parra has a great arm) but the late change of heart almost screwed Byrd at 2nd
  10. Geeeez, I'm calling STOP!!! from my living room cuz I can see what's coming. Not only are they giving away outs on the bases but they're giving away STUPID outs: out at home w/no outs; 3rd out at 3rd base
  11. More BS from Mariano Rivera - BS as in Blown Save. This one was the 2-run variety, courtesy of a 2-out/2R-HR by Miguel Cabrera They're in the 10th now in da Bronx
  12. I keep reading this thread title as: Radioactive Schaefer I don't think I'd want to drink that.
  13. NYM Pitchers hitting this season: .100/.130/.120 - 4 XBHs (all doubles) Opponent pitchers* hitting against NYM this season: .160/.202/.244 -- 19 XBHs (12 doubles + 7 HRs) * includes all #9 hitters so may include a few non-pitcher ABs - can't find stats for pitchers alone That NYM pitcher hitting is the worst in the league. We're losing the hitting battle badly from that particular spot.
  14. Zvon wrote: The more they show that replay the more I think that was a bad call to send Byrd. Its true that the throws had to be good but they didn't have to be rushed or perfect. And they weren't. It was a terrible send with no outs.

  16. Centerfield wrote: ... I got a bad feeling about Hef pitching in that launching pad. Does kind of have that Gee in Citizens Bank Park feel to it, don't it? On the other hand, Gee has problems with that team (and specifically that 1st baseman) over and above whatever troubles he has with the venue. Young - LF Lagares - CF Murphy - 2B Byrd - RF Satin - 1B Turner - SS Flores - 3B Buck - C Hefner - P
  17. Delmon Young - Phils OF ... DFA'd Philly recently acquired ChiSox OFer Casper Wells off waivers. We just got through playing the ChiSox and Casper Wells barely made an impression, but right now he's replacing a former 1/1 draft pick. Kyle Farnsworth - Rays reliever ... DFA'd I'm thinking this could be the end of the line for the 37 y/o, 15-year vet Mark Reynolds - Indians OF/1B/DH ... DFA'd The usually unmentioned member of the SE Virginia-bred contingent, he once cracked 44 HRs and twice more over 30 but teams don't have much patience for the low BAs and the high Ks (123 in 335 ABs this season). Teams kept hoping he'd explode like Chris Davis but instead he's regressed into TTO legend Rob Deer.
  18. Grimm, someone hacked into your account and is using it to suggest that Eli Marrero, Mike Hessman, and Michael Tucker were once Mets.
  19. Alex Rios gets dealt to the Rangers - essentially to be Nelson Cruz's replacement. Rios did not pass through waivers, the Rangers were the ones who put in a claim on him. Rather than just let him go, the White Sox negotiated with Texas and a deal was reached just prior to the window expiring. Part-tims SS/part-time OF Leury Garcia was the return price. The natural tendancy will be to see if this is what we could live with in return for a hypothetical Byrd trade. Rios is signed beyond this season although I'm not sure if that made him more or less attractive to Texas.
  20. And the roster currently features [u:33vehhz4]Zachary[/u:33vehhz4] [u:33vehhz4]Harrison[/u:33vehhz4] Wheeler

  22. I sat about a section away from (ex-Prez by then) Nixon at Shea one night.
  23. He wasn't a "can't miss" anymore than any mid-1st rounder is a "can't miss". Fan/writer propensity for putting that label on every young player they've ever heard of more than once is as inaccurate as it is annoying. Story on Jaroncyk IIRC (I haven't read the above piece yet so maybe this is mentioned) was that, barely two years into his career, he simply decided he no longer liked baseball and claimed he had only been playing all along because he was pushed into it by his father. But by that point his parents had divorced so he simply up and quit taking his near $1 million bonus with him. He briefly came back with another org a year or so later* but never got above A-ball with them either and soon gave it up again. * looking it up - the Dodgers two seasons later I remember there being a NYTimes article on him a short time after he quit (maybe those who know how to find that sort of stuff can come up with it) but there simply wasn't as much attention paid by the public to prospects back in that pre-internet/pre-fantasy days (especially in New York) so the whole deal wasn't that big a public story.
  24. And while catching Washington may not come with any specific reward, as Ronnie said in yesterday's broadcast (or maybe it was the day before) things like 3rd place instead of 4th does mean something to the players and it should to the fans as well. I look at it this way: in all the pre-season polls and predictions, what do you suppose the average gap between the Nats finish and Mets finish was? 15 games? 20? 25? 30? I'd like to finish ahead of Washington just on that basis alone.
  25. Mejia - 2.2 Torres - 1.1 Atchison - 0.7 Hawkins - 0.6 Lagares - 2.2 Young - 1.9 Davis - 1.3
