  1. Helps when the leadoff guy gets walked on four pitches. The other crazy part is that the Mariners brought in their closer (Wilhelmsen) to start the inning. Guess someone will blame the subsequent collapse on him being out of his role. Nava - Walk Lavarnway - Single Holt - Double (1 RBI) Ellsbury - Walk (5 pitches) * Wilhelmsen out - Oliie Perez in * Victorino - Single (2 RBI) Pedroia - Single (1 RBI) Ortiz - Strikeout * Perez out - Yoervis Medina in * Gomes - Single (1 RBI) Drew - Walk Nava - Single for the GW RBI, although if he needed three he could have had them Also last night, the Cardinals took out their frustrations on the Pirates 13-0 but, unfortunately for them, it only counts for one game and they still lost four of five in the series and go forward trailing by 1-1/2 games.
  2. BoSox down 7-1 early and then 7-2 heading into the 9th ... score 6 in the 9th to win it 8-7 Daniel Nava started the 9th off with a walk then ended it with one of the longest singles ever - a bases-loaded walk-off to the "triangle" area in Fenway.
  3. Wheeler - 3.4 Atchison - 0.5 Hawkins - 0.5 Parnell - 0.5 Lagares - 2.0 Buck - 1.3 Byrd - 1.0 Wright - 0.8
  4. Have you ever seen an unassisted double play? How about an unassisted double play by the left fielder? COOL!!! Also from last night: Texas won its third straight game from the Angels - all via walk-off HRs Monday - Game-tying solo HR from Piersynzski then, two outs later, the game winner from Geovany Soto Tuesday - 3R 10th inning HR from Leonys Martin Wednesday - Leadoff 9th inning HR by Beltre
  5. 'Catch Like Grote', the follow-up single to 'Moves Like Jagger'
  6. Turner in for Murph rather than Q surprises me.
  7. Good deal. Shame on me for just glancing at the grid and not reading the whole thread. I didn't even realize until just a few days ago that we were playing the Royals at all. Then, by yesterday I was thinking: 'Hey, not only have these guys won seven (now eight) straight but I don't know shit about them!'
  8. So now it seems that Alex 'I'm never going to negotiate' Rodriguez and MLB are ... in the process of negotiations. The remainder of the players and teams have been informed of their upcoming suspensions which will apparently be announced on Friday. it just occurred to me... if arod is only suspended and not banned for life, even though he's not getting paid, his salary should still count against the mfy payroll, shouldn't it? or is that calculated based on dollars paid not dollars contractually obligated? I have no idea how this affects the whole salary-cap/lux-tax issue. The fun part about all this is going to be that, even if this suspension is (as anticipated in many quarters) for the rest of this season plus all of 2014, his deal with the Yanx would still be in effect for three seasons after that and the only thing better than them seeing that anchor on their roster in 2015-2017 at ages 40, 41, and 42, is seeing that anchor on their roster for 2015-2017 after what amounts to (via injuries and banishment) a nearly three year layoff!! What I suspect at that point is that his remaining salary would be small enough to where the Yanx would find some way to buy him out. Even they weren't going to swallow his $100+ million he was still owed going into this season, but at "only" $61 mil for those years (the Yanx actually got somewhat smart and partially front-loaded his deal this time) I'm sure they'd go to him and say something on the order of: "look, how's about taking [insert figure here] to just go away? ... Yeah, you could refuse and then we'd have to pay you the full amount but: a) we hate you; we have no intention of playing you; c) we don't even want you at our facilities or interacting with our players; and d) did I mention that we hate you? Also, since there's no way anyone else is going to pay your creaky, old, two-hip surgery, PED-deformed ass anywhere near the [buyout] figure we're offering you, if you want to EVER play again and boost your already tainted numbers up a few notches so you can tell your grandkids (assuming that they aren't going to hate you also) that you hit more HRs than Willie Mays, then you'll take this sum and be free to strike your own deal somewhere else" IOW, I've finally come around to the realization that AR has already played his last game in a MFY uniform.

  10. Edgy MD wrote: I'm against that sort of caution. Running is part of life. Yup Let's not get all Hank Steinbrenner on this subject.
  11. Turner's shot is nine rows deep in YSIII
  12. NOW I'd pr for Buck because either Recker will be in the game or the game will be over
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Other downside of the short bench --- hard to pinch run. Use Wheeler? If Buck gets to 2nd I'd do just that because at that point you're going to have to {H Recker anyhow.
  14. Problems with the short bench: - if Buck gets on you can't run for him - you'll want to hit for both Q & the pitchers spot but to do so you'd have to spend the entire bench
  15. Ike's bat keeps finding the SS. Now we just have to get his throws to find the SS.
  16. So did anyone in the CPF get dealt? Edgy tried trading me but I invoked my 10-and-5 rights.
  17. At this point I don't even remember what specifically it was that I didn't like about it, only that I thought it to be a silly waste of talent.
  18. The Nationals continue to have trouble with everyone not named the Mets. This afternoon they loaded the bases w/no outs and the 1st inning against Verlander who has been quite un-Verlander-like lately - but then got just one run out of it. Four innings later it was 10-1 Tigers and Gio Gonzalez was being yanked off the mound.
  19. We're going to need someone here to step up and give us notes on the upcoming Kansas City enemy cuz they're currently on a seven game winning streak.
  20. Remember also when Steven Strasburg was "over and washed up"? Or when they were saying the same things about Jordan Zimmermann? Or Kerry Wood? Or Adam Wainwright? Or when [insert the name of every other young pitcher who has ever had an injury and corrective surgery] was too?
  21. Ian Kennedy - the pitching darling of 2011 - is headed from Arizona to Sandy Eggo
  22. Centerfield wrote: I didn't see the start last week. Was his stuff that filthy? The slider in particular was. And if so, how did he pitch all year long without anyone noticing? Well, he hasn't pitched all that much this year so there was only a limited amount to notice - just six minor league starts prior to the call-up.
  23. But using up an out to move that runner on second with nobody out decreases the overall or total number of runs the team could be expected to score in the inning. Which is something I wasn't arguing.
  24. Edgin - 0.3 Young - 0.9 Byrd - 1.0 Lagares - 0.9 Quintanilla - 0.9
  25. Gee - 1.0 Wright - 2.0 Young - 1.0 Murphy - 0.5
