  1. BEAT THE ROOKS!!
  2. I believe Jeter was declared "ahead of schedule" about ten minutes after they wheeled him out of the surgical room.
  3. Robin Ventura is rewarded for the ChiSox 99-loss season with a three-year extension, his deal now takes him thru 2017.
  4. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Lannan sharing some sort of 6th starter/long-reliever kind of role.
  5. Although I can't think of any specific examples at the moment, if Drew winds up accepting a one-year deal a few months after Boras announcing to all concerned that only ___ years at $_____ would be acceptable, it wouldn't be the first time.
  6. Vacarro over at the Post is banging the drum for the Mets to step up for Drew. He talks about a three-year deal although that becomes a bit risky with his past health issues and being on the other side of 30 - although it's hard to get a read on where the market is for him right now. With what I saw from Drew last season (my first lengthy look at him) I think he'd be nuts to take a job where he wouldn't be the #1 SS. That alone would rule out the Yanx because if St. Derek is even somewhat healthy he's going to play SS and there are only limited opportunities to DH with Soriano, Beltran and others in the mix. Heyman mentions other teams with 2B possibilities also but, if I'm Drew, I'm going somewhere where I'm the first option at SS even if it's for a shorter deal that let's me do this all over again next year.
  7. Quite underwhelming. On the other hand, his trial added up to less than 100 ABs, and it says a lot about his perceived potential when, coming on the heels of two consecutive injury-interrupted seasons, he's still being talked about as either #1 or 1A among catching prospects.
  8. MLB.com kicked off the overall prospect list season by revealing their Top-100 last night: Top-50 via countdown, 51-100 just on the bottom-screen crawl. Jonathan Mayo & Jim Callis are the main drivers of the list. Former GM John Hart also in on the discussions. Syndergaard = 11 d'Arnaud = 22 Montero = 85 - Not much was said about Syndergaard except that he's the 3rd-ranked pitcher overall; Archie Bradley (Az) and Taijuan Walker (Sea) came in at 5th & 6th - d'Arnaud was involved in a side discussion about best catching prospect. Austin Hedges (SD) at #25 is considered the superior defensive catcher but d'Arnaud's better bat gave him a slight nod for the overall package.
  9. I think the relationship between Tug and Tim's mom was shorter than the film exposure rate of your typical 1960s camera, so no pictures can exist.
  10. Ceetar wrote: write WOR you mean, since they're the ones actually doing anything here. The Mets are well aware of how we all feel about Josh Lewin, especially now that they've hired Will Carafello and have stepped up the social media game. Well, I suppose it depends on who (if anyone) you believe is pushing Josh out the door. Either way, don't assume that the brass of either team or station knows what we're all thinking out here in cyberland or in the cheap seats. If nothing else, some of the logic espoused here (Howie needs a younger, non-jock to make him better, etc.) might give the decision makers a new angle on things.
  11. Y'know, if everyone here is so adamant about the need to hang on the Josh, it wouldn't hurt to write the Mets and tell them that. It might not make a difference, but it would be even worse to worry over the move without at least saying something.
  12. Oh, I didn't realize they were talking about THAT Maxx Tissenbaum
  13. In a world where Oscar Gamble is in the HoF and Cooperstown displayed busts without hats, would his be carved with a giant afro? Man I hope so. There's got to be some NFL player with a serious '70s 'fro. Or maybe John Riggins with his mohawk.

  15. Matt Garza takes 4x$13 to move to Milwaukee - as the remainder of the pitching pieces start to move now that Tanaka is off the market
  16. Yeah, that 7-payer deal was yesterday and involved all minor leaguers and no big names among them. I suspect this may be about Price. Read about speculation that the DBacks were interested and the fact that they were one of the finalists who missed out on Tanaka may have been a prod to step up whatever they were offering to TB.

Awful, in this case, to the point where I bailed 20 minutes in; I just didn't want to learn anything more. Usually his characters, even the unlikeable ones, don't seem like they're trying to be this unlikeable.
  18. Grady Sizemore has finally re-surfaced, the Red Sox are the ones taking a shot with a one-year deal worth 750K + incentives that could bring it as high as $6mil Sizemore, 31, didn't play at all in 2012 or 2013 and prior to that averaged just 70 games/year with Cleveland in the 2009 thru 2011 seasons because of a slew of injuries which included both knee and back problems plus seven surgeries since 2009.
  19. Billy and Rizzo sittin' in a tree ...
  20. The Mets could have clammed up and said nothing at all, but it wouldn't have prevented the idea that they were trying to peddle Ike from becoming public knowledge.
  21. But the bigger story is that this is the third trade between these two teams this offseason and the eighth in the last three years. WHAT'S THE DEAL, BILLY BEANE?! Nor is Corey Brown the first player to get re-traded back to his original team of these two during this span. Catcher Kurt Suzuki: Traded from Oakland to Washington on 8/3/12 Traded from Washington back to Oakland on 8/23/13 (minor leaguer P) AJ Cole: Sent to Oakland in the Gio Gonzalez deal, winter 2011/12 Traded back to Washington in 2013 There may be others as well.

  24. I would never bring Ozzie Guillen to a game; the fucking guy would never shut up the whole time.
  25. I reckon this shoots the ol' 'get under the lux tax cap' thing all to hell, huh? Under the old posting rules they probably could have gotten away with maybe $125 mil total instead of $175 - and maybe only $75 mil of it would have been subject to the total for cap purposes instead of $155 I think the clincher to the deal came when the Yanx promised to throw in Hidecki Matsui's leftover porn-tape collection.
