  1. But y'see that's the frustrating part, that they're sucking despite being almost exactly league average in both RS & RA (and only -3 in differential) meaning that it's not like they're 40 or 50 runs in arrears but rather a tantalizing dozen or so over a 60+ game span from NOT sucking. And when you consider the collective bases-laoded and RiSP numbers, one could make the argument that a dozen or so well timed HITS could get them on the right side of the suck/not-suck line.
  2. The opposing teams should scout the Mets and adopt a strategy of allowing the first two runners in each inning to reach base ... it's a sure fire way of ensuring than none of the next three will get the ball out of the infield.
  3. Runner on 3rd w/less than 2 outs and THIS IS THE TIME Abreu decides to swing at 2 pitches 3 feet out of the strike zone!?!?!!?

If that's a play being called from the bench then they have to rip that page out of the play book because even if it started succeeding twice per game for the next month it still wouldn't create as many future runs to make up for the ones it's already killed this year.

  6. Bottom 2 -- they get the 2-RBI hit 2 out and 2 on Top 4 -- we get the inning-ending GiDP with 1 out and 2 on
  7. The 2014 Mets have not just the most losses via a one-run margin (17 - no one else higher than 14) but also ... - the the largest percentage of their losses coming via one run (50% -- next highest = 43%) - the largest percentage of all games being one-run games (25 of 62 - 40%) - and the worst winning pct in one run games -- 8-17 (.320) One school of thought says that this means we're really not as bad as we look right now, that just a handful of extra runs--say by just being merely competent in bases-loaded/RiSP situations--would result in a markedly better W/L record because of all the close games going against us ... but it sure doesn't feel like that right now.

Wow. Feels like more. Feels like every other fuckin game. Well, a 'walk-off' doesn't include the ones where we lose in the final AB at home
  9. 10 hits -- 2 doubles + 8 singles (2 of those singles were off the OF wall); plus 4 walks, 1 SF error, 1 wild pitch, 2 HBPs, and all of them except the HBPs were prior to the 1st out in the 6th inning -- and yet all of that somehow added up to just 4 runs.
  10. Nats, then Mets, now Braves, all blow one-run save opps, and then lose on walk-offs inside about a 10 minute window

  12. Doesn't help matters that Murphy's single w/0 outs in the 6th was their last hit.
  13. Kiss this one goodbye.
  14. They just keep inventing ways not to win games.
  15. One-run save on the road against the meat of the order. This will be a MAN-SIZED save if he can pull it off.
  16. I wonder how long it's been since the LOOGY Lopez went 2 complete innings?
  17. I wonder what the Wilpons think when Keith starts going on and on about how great it is to have a stadium without all the loud, piped-in music and scoreboard directed cheers? It won't change anything, but I hope he keeps harping on it.
  18. btw, at this time last night the game was already over for 20 minutes - and here we are in just the top of the 7th tonight.
  19. On the positive side, both Raphael Soriano and Craig Kimbrel have blown 9th inning saves tonight. Nats @ Padres are in the 10th inning tied at 2; Snakes still batting in the 9th vs Kimbrel's Braves.
  20. Good lord they're just trying to give this game away!!

  22. Gee - threw for the first time off flat ground yesterday. Still 2-3 weeks at best from returning EYJ - "felt tightness" in his hammy during a test run. Will back off for a few days and will require time beyond the original DL stint Syndergaard - will be out "5 to 7 days" with a sprained left (non-throwing) shoulder
  23. It's not that Hudson hasn't long been a good pitcher, but he's currently off to the best season of his career despite turning 39 in a few weeks and coming off a missed half-season with a rather gruesome broken ankle (courtesy of EYJ in a game last July). In particular his walk rate is suddenly sub-1.0 per/9 after spending 15 seasons consistently in the 2.5-3.0 range and his H/9 (6.9) is the lowest in his career as well. The ballpark probably helps somewhat but it's not like Atlanta or Oakland were hitters paradises either and his HR/9 rates were always low anyway.
  24. I assumed, after d'Arnaud's 2nd GiDP of the game (or was it his 7th?) stopped the #9 spot in the lineup from coming up in top 8, that Niese, at only 5 hits and 94 pitches, was going back out to pitch the bottom half.
  25. Niese - 4.2 den Dekker - 0.6 Murphy - 2.2 Tejada - 1.0
