  1. Eveland - 1.5 Tejada - 0.5 Duda - 0.5
  2. * I consider the fact that my power went out for over an hour this afternoon right in the middle of today's game to be a blessing. * In all, I'd prefer to think of one of those days where if you're going to not hit, not pitch, and not field, you might as well do them all at the same time rather than ruin another game - but the hitting was so pathetic in this one (even our line drives were weak) that there's nothing good to be taken out of this day. * And has every pitcher who got his first career hit done so off the NYM pitching staff this year or does it just seem that way? Seriously, that's got to be at least four this season. I think there have been more first-time hits this season by opposing pitchers against Met pitchers than there have been hits of any kind BY Met pitchers (sans deGrom). * Don't know what to think about Wheeler. Between the walks, the constant 3-ball counts whether they eventually result in walks or not, the two-out hits, the high pitch counts even when not giving up runs, and so on, it's like he's incapable of pitching a good game even on days when he has good stuff. And Gee's starting to pitch and he's got to go somewhere.
  3. Hey here's a good idea for you Zach, why not try going to a 3-ball count on every single hitter in the Padres lineup and see if that improves the results.
  4. Ruben Tejada, ss Daniel Murphy, 2b David Wright, 3b Bobby Abreu, rf Lucas Duda, 1b Chris Young, lf Taylor Teagarden, c Matt den Dekker, cf Zack Wheeler, rhp
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Sure, Men Without Hats had multiple songs of multiple excellent qualities. I just remember a remark (I think from Swannie) during one of those 'What's on Your IPod' threads concerning someone's list that had something like four MWH songs on it; "The mothers of the group members of MWH don't have four MWH songs on their IPods"
  6. I mean, Jeeeez, do the Mets even have a winning record when leading after 7 innings? Yes as it turns out (amazing what you can find these days in such a short time) 26-4 in fact. But here's the killer in late inning stats and the reason why it seems like they lose so many games late: when entering the 7th inning tied they're a whopping 3-8, they're also 2-9 in games when they enter the 8th inning tied, and 2-12 when they begin the 9th tied. Now some of those games are duplicates (game tied after 7 is still tied after 8, etc.) so you just can't add those all up and declare that because of the bullpen they've lost 29 winnable games ... but, man, that still suxxx!
  7. d'Kong76 wrote: The Padres (19-0) and the Marlins (24-0) are the only teams in the majors not to lose when leading after seven innings this season. This is not a concept with which I am familiar. I mean, Jeeeez, do the Mets even have a winning record when leading after 7 innings?
  8. Hey wait a minute! 'Men Without Hats' had more than one song?!?!?!?? G-Fafif wrote: More Mets! More Padres! Zack Wheeler takes on the love child of Jesse Orosco and Don Hahn That would be Jesse Hahn, HS teammate of Matt Harvey (maybe there's some long ago grudge, over a girl or something, and Harvey can threaten to throw at him too) who was drafted five rounds later than MH after playing for Virginia Tech. This will be his 2nd ML start despite just 11 starts above A-ball. In start #1, on June 3rd, he lasted just 3.2 innings against Pittsburgh, getting tagged for 4 runs on 6 hits (including 2 2R HRs) and 2 walks. Then stick around for the celebratory 50 Cent concert. Really? I hadn't heard about this. Maybe they should have promoted it some. Even in the booth last night Gary was counting down to his last promo.
  9. Colon - 3.4 Black - 0.2 Familia - 0.2 Abreu - 2.9 Duda - 1.3 Murphy - 0.5 Tejada - 0.5 Teagarden - 0.5 den Dekker - 0.5
  10. Is that directed at me? -- And, if so, maybe you could explain what you mean by it.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: What's Abreu still out there for? He should have been elected to walk Colon to the clubhouse. No logical choice really to replace him with. Campbell is the only option at this point. I'll risk a 4-run lead with the old man out there. Gotta get some OFers healthy. EYJ probably back on Monday. Lagares still maybe two weeks away.
  12. Even Ronnie talked about this tonight, saying that a player not playing should also be not talking. It's very easy to be saying what you would do from the sidelines. And particularly about this topic, the way to take care of this sort of thing (assuming it actually exists in the first place) is to NOT talk about it.
  13. Zvon wrote: Zvon wrote: Hmmm. Abreu doubles, Abreu scores. I still don't want him starting. Why not, he's our best hitter AND our best runner right now. But if you really don't want him starting anymore, tell any one of the three injured OFs to get themselves healthy. Or tell den Dekker that it's OK to actually get a hit in this league. The record says that MdD already has a couple of hits but I certainly don't remember any. Haven't seen it but what I find most impressive is him scoring from 1st on the Duda double, if what I'm reading is correct. Just like the Kentucky Derby, watching Abreu going from 1st to home is the most exciting two minutes in sports.
  14. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I don't mean to be disrespectful, but all these posts and machinations about where den Dekker should bat strikes me a little like the rearrangement of the Titanic deck chairs. No disrespect. Hey, at least somebody still cares. So let's quit posting about everything: pitching changes, lineup questions, injuries, etc. and just say Jeffie Suxx, Jeffie Suxx all the live long day. Gee, won't that be fun and informative.
  15. Y'see, I'm watching the ball game because every time I switch to the hockey they are in a commercial.
  16. Not sure how exact your wording has to be for this thing, but ... [u:k12ub4dr]Obstruction[/u:k12ub4dr] is what fielders do to runners, [u:k12ub4dr]Interference[/u:k12ub4dr] is what runners do to fielders. They're essentially two sides of the same coin but could be considered separate things if being picky since one is on the offense vs the other on the defense.
  17. Five-man infield / four-man outfield alignments
  18. [crossout:vw9n67qb]Batting out of order[/crossout:vw9n67qb] -- oops, you had that one Getting called for Interference/Obstruction on the base paths Throwing/handing live ball out of play 5 or more hits in a game (one player)

  20. I've long suspected that if one were to poll the fans of all 30 teams as to whether they got thrown at more or did more of the throwing-at, all 30 would claim victim status. Of course it's impossible for them all to be correct but selective observation is a powerful tool. So citing two recent incidents of 'up-and-in' pitches hardly makes it a trend with Wright even if it's fun to do so and, even if true, I don't believe for a moment that it's the cause of his mediocre numbers this season. But Harvey likes to talk and has been in the vicinity of microphones lately so it was only a matter of time until a press corps that likes him gets him to utter something they think merits ink. IOW, this is a total non-story IMO.
  21. G-Fafif wrote: Word is the Padres suck. So let's take advantage. But how do they suck? Let us count the ways: aka: mini-KTE - 10 games under .500 compared to our mere 7 - but their -56 in RA/RS is miles worse than our relatively tame -7 - Interstate Hitters? Catcher - Yasmani Grandal? Check! 2B - Jedd Gyorko? Check! 3B - Chase Headly? .200 on the nose Then you get to tack on the ones barely over the Mendoza line: 1B Yonder Alonso (.208); SS Evereth Cabrera (.226; plus most of their bench reads like a wet noodle convention: .216, .202, .200, .167, etc. Last in Runs Scored? Oh yeah, by a lot: 3.03/G -- Next closest is Cincy at 3.46. Lg Avg = 4.01 Lowest BA? Yup (15 points below NYM). Lowest OBP? Yup (.275); Lowest Slugging? Yup, just slightly behind NYM OPS+? Glad you asked: 77 (NYM = 87)
  22. Both WAR and the TY index ignore that most Yanx fans HATED the acquisitions of both O'Neill & Tino at the time ... but one shouldn't go muddying the waters with too many facts when it comes to these things.
  23. All this SS talk reminds me that Jose Reyes turned 31 y/o this past week, making it also the 11th anniversary of his ML debut. Career totals to date = .291/.342/.438 with a 162 G/Avg of 198 Hits, 35 2Bs, 14 3Bs, 13 HRs, 53 SBs, 13 CS, 54 BB, 76 K, 107 OPS+ The problem comes when you figure that, on average, those 162 games took him well over 1 season to play as one season for him was more like 123 Games Played; 564 PAs; 517 ABs Put another way that means he's missed just short of 1/4 of the time since his call-up so those 11 seasons turn into 8 seasons/58 games
  24. Ruben's decent OBP (.339) is being somewhat pumped up by his [u:3fgp9jvd]5 IBBs[/u:3fgp9jvd], something that's more a matter of where he has hit than how. Take away those--which wouldn't happen if hitting 1st--and he's down in the .310 range
