  1. I have no idea what they were appealing other than the fact that no one seems to know what the correct interpretation of these new plate-blocking rules.
  2. Hey Saltalamacchia, don't sell your hair to a wig shop.
  3. Nats still can't beat the Braves. Got shutout 3-0 last night in the start of their big four-game series for NL East supremacy despite the fact that the Nats were coming in hot and the braves were coming in not. Washington 1-6 vs Atlanta this season to go with their 6-13 last year. And the Blue Jays can't beat the Yanx. Pinstripers complete the 3-game sweep and are now just 1.5 out of 1st place despite their STILL negative-19 RS/RA numbers Jays 1-5 vs Yanx this year, 5-14 in 2013, and have lost something like 15 straight in the Bronx. Fuckin' dogs!
  4. Furcal was obviously going to be Wheeler's last batter either way. I like how Terry gave him some rope even after the 2-out hit but, while Furball was unlikely to crank one over the fence, the next three batters clock in at about 700 lbs in total and there's no way he was going to risk a walk-off killer to a tiring pitcher.
  5. REMEMBER TO INCLUDE THE FIRST INITIAL WHEN VOTING FOR DANIEL OR AUDIE MURPHY Happy Recap

  7. Movin on up Savanna to St. Lucie Gavin Ceccini, SS Much improved power numbers from Cecchini 2013 - 8 XBH (all doubles) in 194 ABs at Brooklyn 2014 - 24 XBH (17 2Bs, 4 3Bs, 3 HRs) in 228 ABs at Savannah Better walk rates too: .046 >>>> .074
  8. Boston's Grady Sizemore experiment got off to a good start -- Opening Day CF going 2/4 w/1 HR after not appearing in a game since 2011 and a full season since 2008 -- but he hit only .210 w/1 more HR since and the Sox DFA'd him this week. In his place comes Garin Cecchini, older brother of NYM farmhand Gavin.

As was Furcal who hast played since 2012 due to injuries and to the fact that he's 63 years old (OK only 36, it just seems longer). If either or both have anything going forward/still left then it allows them to lengthen out that lineup. Ozuna / Saltalamacchia / Hechavarria is a nice 6-7-8 (although they also use up all the A's on the SCRABBLE board)

Not optimistic about tonight. Fans of every team say that - and probably some of them are right. What we do know from this season is that pitchers getting their first hit in MLB has become a regular occurrence against the Mets -- so I expect maybe a 2-for-3 w/an RBI day out of him no matter how he pitches. Heaney was a Top-30 prospect prior to the season before racking up 8 good starts in AA then 4 more in (somewhat pitching friendly) AAA New Orleans. Be nice if Wheeler, who was ranked higher still plus had a partial season of ML experience under his belt, were to out-pitch him.
  11. Gotta make room for all those draft-picks, recent foreign signees, extended ST promotions, and the like too. And, yeah, some of this means that a handful of kids (or older than kids) have recently been called into their managers office to be told that their baseball dreams are kaput.
  12. In what should have been the very first year of the Wild Card era in baseball, the one knocked out by the 1994 strike, the AL West was being led at the time of the season's interruption by the Texas Rangers and their 52-62 record. On the NL side the West leaders were the barely .500 Dodgers (58-56 and they won their final two games just to get to that point). Having that happen in the first year of the WC era would have been a big black eye for baseball (not that the strike wasn't, but ...). And I don't think it's any coincidence that the odd-ball four-team division, the AL West, was the one where it looked like that was going to happen.
  13. Not sure what the time frame is on "inevitable". Expansion generally takes years and I don't think there's been a peep about it for many years, to the point where there's been more talk in the years since the last expansion (now 17 years in the rearview) about contraction than about adding. Plus to do so simply for easy division reasons is a bad idea and a system of 8x4 would essentially kill pennant races. I believe it was the 2012 NFL season where 5 of their 8 divisions were clinched with 1/4 of the season still to go. In a sport where 1/4 season means 40 games rather than 4 and where tickets are NOT necessarily pre-sold, such a scenario would be a disaster. That's why I said that I hope MLB is paying attention when the NFL system produces seasons with a dearth of division races and sub-.500 division winners.
  14. It was, of course, impossible to do under the no-division system used from the dawn of time through 1968. It was still very hard to do under the 2x6 set-up when all teams played 90 of their 162 within their own division. Currently, with teams playing less than half their games intra-division, it gets easier. The NFL has proved that it's possible to win a division at .500 (numerous times) and sub-.500 (at least once that I know of) - and the odds of doing so got better when they went from the six by five-team divisions to the eight by four-team set-up, something I hope MLB paid attention to.

  17. Vic Sage wrote: Not quite sure how he even managed to give up 8 runs. he's not clutch. **SMACK** Of course!! I should have thought of that. Also, it turns out that half of those 8 runs allowed were in a late April game vs Houston when he was brought in in the 8th inning of a tie game and blew up. But, because he's now 'A Closer' and was brought in out of his element, we can blame this one on the manager for "mis-using" him.
  18. - How 'bout them 1st place Royals! Winners of ten straight including three in a row over presumptive ALC winner Detroit which in turn included back to back thumpings of the winners of two of the last three AL CY awards; Verlander [7 earned on 12 hits over 6 IP]; and Scherzer [10 Runs, 10 Hits over 4] - Speaking of getting their asses swept, the Braves drop three straight at home to the Phillies [outscored 21-8] and now sit just 1 game over .500 with a -13 RS/RA differential - a 7th inning Hanley Ramirez error was the only thing between Clayton Kershaw and a perfect game late Wednesday night vs Colorado - How's this line for Oakland closer Sean Doolittle so far this season?: 32 Games, 34 IP, 20 Hits, 48 K, 1 BB. Not quite sure how he even managed to give up 8 runs.
  19. Colon - 5.5 EYoung - 2.0 Wright - 0.7 Flores - 0.7 Teagarden - 0.7 Eveland - 0.4
  20. Nieuwenhuis up, den Dekker down. I was figuring this move was going to be made although I was thinking that it wouldn't be until Lagares returned. And we never did get all three small d's into the lineup at the same time. Maybe in September
  21. Eveland - 1.0 Germen - 0.5 Edgin - 0.5 Duda - 0.5 CYoung - 1.0 Tejada - 1.0 Granderson - 0.5 Murphy - 0.5
  22. Torres - 2.0 Black - 1.5 Mejia - 1.5 Granderson - 2.0 Abreu - 1.0 Murphy - 1.0 Duda - 1.0
