    I know we're not supposed to fat-shame people (nor do I want to) but I do want to start shaming the awful commercials for meds designed to slim down overweight folks. The whole concept of marketing meds directly to people even though they can't buy them on their own is kind of weird to begin with. Doing so with hokey/bad taste ones just ups that ante a few notches.

    My bad on this one. Only one of the walk/HBP runners scored in the 2nd inning and the walk in the 7th scored as well. The middle of the three WAS runs came via a solo HR

    Maybe my biggest memory of Tommy was the utter look of disgust on his face towards Yanqui manager Bob Lemon (and on the world in general) upon being PH for in the 4th inning of Game 6 of the '81 World Series. The score was tied at 1-1 and the Yanx had runners on 1st & 2nd with two outs. The strategy didn't work as PH Murcer flew out leaving the runners stranded and the Yanx with five innings to cover with their pen. It didn't go well. George Frazier gave up three runs immediately in the 5th, Then Ron Davis (Ike's dad) and Rick Reuschel (I don't remember him being a Yank) made a mess of the 6th and the Dodgers went on to a 9 - 2 rout for the WS win. Side note: That loss, charged to George Frazier, was his third of the Series. He wasn't the first pitcher to lose three WS games in one year but he was the first to do so while actually trying to win. The previous guy with three WS losses was Claude Preston 'Lefty' Williams of the 1919 Chicago White Black Sox

    Three Nats runners have scored today (so far): guys who were put on via a walk, via a HBP, and via a walk.

    When the Yanx had their Old Timers' Game a few weeks back, T.J. sent a message to be read which was essentially him saying 'Goodbye'. It was known he hadn't been well for a while now but that pretty much confirmed that the end was just around the corner.

    Well ... after "taking out the garbage" (don't blame me. Keith said it) or even 'throwing in the towel' (if you prefer that) at the trade deadline, the first half of August showed the most progress we've seen all year both in raw numbers and in rank among all MLB teams. So while too much time has gone by for these numbers/ranks ever being 'good', that they're no longer bottom of the barrel and stagnant there is a big improvement. So instead of being embarrassed by being a bottom-feeder, you can now claim, 'We're in the upper tier of the lower third at scoring'. Hey, it's something.

    His main competition (along with Nolan McLean) will likely come from: - StL's J.J. Weatherholt: 2nd base; 720 OPS; 16 HRs; 13-of-14 in SB (early lead but fading during July & August) - Cincy's Sal Stewart: 1B; 816 OPS; 23 2Bs/26 HRs; league leading 91 RBI

    'Crash' Christian Scott faces Jake Irwin in a 1:40 start Irwin is a 29 y/o Righty whose 5.79 ERA / 1.32 WHIP pretty much mirrors the numbers from his four year ML career overall. Mets got to him for 3 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings back in May. That was the game where the Mets won by scoring 10 runs in the 12th inning (back when we were averaging about 10 runs a week) to eke out a 16 - 7 victory. Irwin pitched one game after that before missing all of June & July. This will be his third game since returning but the first three did not go well (12 Runs in 13 innings). Currently 4.5 out of 4th place!!!

    Too many challenges based on hope rather than knowledge. Other teams are likely guilty of it too but this is the one I see all the time.

    Beeter threw maybe five strikes in that inning (at least ones that were not hit) and yet survived.

    Nats lost a run earlier on a pickoff (followed by a triple), now the Mets lose a potential one with Lindor getting caught on a 2 - 6 (followed by Single - Walk)

    I heard there was a Harry Ford / who called the game for Brad the Lord But you don't really care for baseball, do ya? Now the battle's on for 4th and 5th / in a season headed off a cliff Where a series sweep evokes a Hallelujah etc.

    This will be a 4:10 start, and I have it on good authority that there will be both pitchers and lineups in this game.

    More 'Adventures in Diazland' last night Edwin comes in with a 2-run lead: HPB - SB - K - BB - GO - BB - GO So on the one hand, he didn't blow the lead, didn't even give up a run, and never let the ball leave the infield. On the other hand he still kind of sucked. So it's a split so far in the first two games of this four game possible preview for the NLCS.
