  1. Scoring across MLB today: 1-1 here 2-1 in the 9th in Houston 4-1 in the 8th in Colorado 3-2 final in Detroit 3-2 final in 13 in Miami 2-1 final in 10 in Chicago and the one outlier: 10-6 in Toronto
  2. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.
  3. Wasn't this pitcher one of the teletubbies?
  4. Aside from Cuddyer's ground ball single (one AB too late I might add) the last ball NYM bats have gotten out of the infield seems like about two hours ago.
  5. I wonder what pct of extra inning games are won by the home team? My guess it that it would be higher than the standard 54% or so games that home teams generally win in baseball but I don't know that I've ever seen a breakdown. I do know that I feel a helluva lot more CAHNfident as the home team in these situations, but I don't know if stats will back up that feeling.
  6. Torres looking to be the losing pitcher while striking out every batter he faces.
  7. Even the Rangers game is out-scoring this one.
  8. Foul balls by Nieuwenhis seem like progress.
  9. The hell with Nieuwenhuis, I'd PH deGrom here.
  10. Game 39 ... a new record!
  11. Make him pay, Cuddy!
  12. Did someone here order a walk-off win?
  13. Heyward = tough guy to double-up, although has been doubled-up twice tonight.
  14. Be nice to see a half dozen or more runs right about now.
  15. Alex Cobb - TB Rays. Cobb, who never did get around to pitching this year, had the surgery this past weekend. Chase Whitley - NYY. Whitley went 1-2, 4.19 in 4 starts, left his last start in the 2nd inning and has since opted for the surgery.
  16. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think Met fans gotta root for the MFYs this week. Realistically, yeah. But, like Greg says, I don't know how to do that. The basic reason is that the entire AL East seems fairly evenly matched; no one seems terrible over there but no one's all that good either. The winner there is likely to come down to who stays healthiest or gets luckiest. But the Nats have the talent -- at least on paper -- to be able to run and hide if they open up a lead this early so the longer they can be kept back the less chance there is of that happening.
  17. Nats off today, so we'll either double our slim lead or eliminate it entirely all on our own. They'll host the Yanx for three games starting Tuesday; trying to figure out a way to have both teams go 0-3 in those games but am drawing a blank so far.
  18. Sounds like the folks at ESPN jumped the gun during SNB on their "scoop" about Conine. Wonder if they'll try to lay the blame on some other outfit that reported it first. They certainly swipe enough items that they claim as their own when they turn out to be correct.
  19. Somehow these fuckers keep losing guys -- to injuries, to trades, to retirement, even to early deaths -- and yet keep sailing along. Lose best pitcher in Adam Wainwright and best young pitcher in Shelby Miller ... lead the league in ERA anyway. Lose top prospect (Oscar Tavares) to a car accident ... have 13th round college senior draft pick (Matt Carpenter) explode into a major star instead [.323/.388/.623 -- w/24 XBHs already!!!] Their older guys (Molina, Holliday, Peralta) are still playing well ... their younger ones fill spots where needed. Not mentioned above, last year's promising rookie, Randal Grichuk, is just off the DL and will probably see some time in the OF due to Jay's absence (he played RF Saturday night). Grichuk was originally the #1 draft pick by the Angels but was dealt to StL with Peter Bourjos for one-time WS hero (but ultimately mediocre player) David Freese plus reliever Fernando Salas. Jhonny Peralta (I'll take mis-spelled names for $600 Alex) is the first SS to start in back-to-back opening days for the Cards since the heralded David Eckstein era of 2006-07 Can you name the ones in between? ... no, probably not. 2008 - Cesar Izturis 2009 - Khalil Greene 2010 - Brendan Ryan 2011 - Ryan Theriot 2012 - Rafael Furcal 2013 - Pete Kozma Not exactly murderers row, eh?
  20. Seems that ex-Met (that's how he's going to be referred to, right?) Jeff Conine is going to be named as the go-to man for the Miami Fish. That's makes it where both managerial changes this year go to guys without any managing or coaching experience. Conine has been doing pre & post work for the Marlins broadcasts for several years now, but I don't think he's put on the uni since he died a New York Met in 2007.

  22. TransMonk wrote: I'm not getting the Will Smith references. The Brewers have a reliever named Will Smith. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25127427/brewers-will-smith-writes-to-hollywoods-will-smith-asking-to-meet Took Gary about 5 seconds to make the reference after Smith's first appearance of the series. For the record he went with 'Fresh Prince of Milwaukee'
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Rubbles may be a high-leverage guy pretty soon. Robles and/or Goeddel have made their case for more high wire time. As Sandy said shortly after Mejia's suspension: he's not guaranteed a job when he gets back.
  24. Now see I was guessing that to be Garry Templeton.
  25. That franchise sure has gone through their share of different 'M' designs over the years.
