  1. "One Size Fits Most" is a claim open to all kinds of interpretation. I'm not quite in Bochy territory but I've got a pretty big melon. If I actually cared about getting a (100% Paper) fedora I'd likely wind up kinda pissed that I'd have to jam it on my head to come up with even a passable definition of 'fit'.
  2. Still holding out for straw boater night, are you?
  3. Gary mis-interpreting stats again, this time how Run Differential relates to Ws & Ls

  5. A ten-run inning. Had we scored ten runs cumulatively in May up to this point?
  6. If the weather forecast is looking worse, this is where you start thinking about making outs on purpose.
  7. This is where someone trots out the old cliche about how if this was a prize fight it would have bee stopped already. Amazing how much that attempted play at the plate cost the Brews. Yeah they only just now got the 2nd (would have been 3rd) out, but playing all that time with 1 out rather than 2 makes closing it out seem just that much tougher. So today's lesson is: always get the out, at least that early in the game you should.
  8. This lineup is GENIUS!! -- Put your best OBA guy up 8th and then your best power threat 9th.
  9. Only one run, but considering that the 1st loop through the lineup tonight = 2 2Bs, 1 1B + a BB, I'll take it. Most games we've gone once around without even a baserunner.

  11. ^ 7/9/82 ^ ^ ^
  12. 8/13/78 4th inning. Randle is on 2nd following a leadoff walk + SB tries to come home on a Bobby Valentine single but is thrown out by RF Jerry Mumphrey. And, yes, that's Ted Simmons. Coincidentally, the top of that very same inning ended when StL 1B Keith Hernandez was thrown out at home on a single to RF by Joel Youngblood. http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=2724&tabno=D
  13. [crossout:vx1gvwge]4/17/78[/crossout:vx1gvwge] No, that's not right either.
  14. And I think that's Tim 'Crazy Horse' Foli on the far right.
  15. Two good things about this game: 1) It was over quickly (2:18) 2) See #1
  16. ATorres - 0.75 Murphy - 0.75 Gilmartin - 0.5
  17. In order to 'get to' this guy someone actually has to hit a ball hard first. Even the long(-ish) fly outs and including the play by Braun, every shot off NYM bats tonight has far too much air under it - except for all the K's looking of course. Were suddenly back to the days from a couple years ago when everything seemed like it was being hit by a wet newspaper.
  18. I'm not getting the Will Smith references. Brews have been better since their managerial change: 5-5 while being run by (the small) Counsell. Having Segura and LaCroy out certainly ins't helping them (and it reduces our Wright/d'Arnaud complaints) and they find themselves in the uncustomary position of scoring runs at a below lg average clip so far this year. What's not unusual is they're preventing runs at a near league worst rate -- 5.11 RA/G compared to NYM 2nd best in NL at 3.23 -- so no excuses for our offense this weekend either.
  19. Yeah, 'Lack of depth' was the wrong phrase there. What I should have said is that their depth is being severely tested -- particularly so for still only being mid-May -- and that, with a margin for error so slim, it's going to catch up with them at some point. 15 penners have already been used and that's without any contribution from three guys who (in some order or another) were considered among their top 4 coming into the season: Parnell, Black, Mejia
  20. Cubs series post-mortem: 2-24 w/RiSP = 3 RBIs. Mayberry's 2 RBIs today and Plawecki's RBI single in game 1 10 runs scored in total, 5 came via solo HRs. One more on a 1 Sac Fly + one via ground-out, plus the 3 runs on actual hits (see above). I fear also that the lack of bullpen depth is, or is about to, start catching up to us. Out of the pitchers who either did, or could have, started the year in the pen, we're now missing Edgin, Carlyle, Parnell, Black, Blevins, Mejia, and Montero (which doesn't even bring Gee or Wheeler into the conversation). They've done a good job so far, but there's only so many times you can go to that well. Now 3-6 in out of division games.
  21. And if Shoeless Joe turned out to be a Communist, he then would have been the first red Black Sock.
  22. Out-hitting 'em, out-homering 'em, and of course losing to 'em. 1 hit w/RiSP
  23. Since we don't hit on the days when we pitch, I guess it's only fair that we not pitch on the days we do hit.
  24. Mayberry's first hit since the Clinton administration (or thereabouts) plates two. The disappointing part was the Kuddyer AB prior to that with 2nd & 3rd, 1-out, and the infield in.
  25. I'm increasingly positive that Tulowitzki WILL be traded this year. But, as always, that needs to come with the standard warning labels 1) He's just 2 years younger than Wright (22 months, actually) so while we're sitting around resigned to the 'fact' that David will never again replicate his peak years, why would we think things will be any different for TT, especially since ... 2) He spends even more time injured than does Wright! -- 400 fewer PAs since 2011 and if you go back further than that then the gap grows. He's also had more invasive injuries/fixes like hip surgery during that time. 3) he's signed for as long as Wright and for more money: $128mil guaranteed thru 2020 vs $107 for the same period and more still if you pick up Tulo's 2021 option. So if one deal is starting to look bad, how good can acquiring the other be? 4) And if you want to make the argument that all this is OK because he's better than Wright ever was then fine, but don't forget the Coors factor; there's a nice OPS gap but that gap gets a bit smaller when you covert to OPS+ [+137 for TT since 2011 vs +129 for DW same years] Do you talk to him/Colorado in the interim? Oh hell yes!! But don't lose sight of the price Ugarte, the price.
