  1. Quickie KTE CF - JOC PEDERSON -- Exciting rookie. Low-ish BA and A LOT of Ks, but real good power and draws a ton of walks. Also hi-light level defense. 2B - HOWIE KENDRICK -- Got to LA from Anaheim via a 3-way deal over the winter also involving the Marlins. Not a great player, but a kind of steady and therefore a somewhat under-noticed one. 3B - JUSTIN TURNER -- .330/.397/.522 since arriving in LA for which there is no logical explanation 1B - ADRIAN GONZALEZ -- Having a great year although some of that is due to a super fast start. Sort of ordinary since May 1st RF - YASIEL PUIG -- Been hurt a lot and rumor has it everyone on the team hates him. Mixes great plays with totally dopey ones like Muffy on steroids which, if I were to put a bet on it ... LF - ANDRE ETHIER -- Has been on the trading block for like three years now but never goes anywhere. With Puig back he mostly platoons in LF with the improving Scott Van Slyke C - YASMANI GRANDAL -- Hits for power and walks a lot. Nice package to have in a catcher. SS - JIMMY ROLLINS -- Still some pop but low BA & OBA (.212 & .266) P - CLAYTON KERSHAW -- Has lost his last three starts for the first time in his career. Has pitched better than his 5-6 record even if the other numbers [3.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP] are somewhat off his super-human pace of recent seasons. Still just 27 y/o. Also: - Alex Guerrero is a 28 y/o Cuban 3B/OF/PH they signed for big buxx two years back but is just getting playing time now. Doesn't get on base much but 18 of his 38 hits are for extra-bases including 10 HRs in just 146 ABs. Much of that was off a hot start that has cooled recently. - Closer Kenley Jansen has an absurd 0.51 WHIP and 30 Ks and [u:1zh1v043]8 hits allowed[/u:1zh1v043] in 17.2 IP
  2. Bad June '85, bad June! I like how 1986's chart quickly shows just two four-game losing streaks (and none longer). Sigh!
  3. RF - GRANDERSON CF - LAGARES 3B - MURPHY LF - MAYBERRY 1B - DUDA 2B - FLORES C - PLAWECKI SS - TEJADA P - SYNDERGAARD CF - JOC PEDERSON 2B - HOWIE KENDRICK 3B - JUSTIN TURNER 1B - ADRIAN GONZALEZ RF - YASIEL PUIG LF - ANDRE ETHIER C - YASMANI GRANDAL SS - JIMMY ROLLINS P - CLAYTON KERSHAW

Because Tomorrow Never Knows so we'd better win a game soon. Because we'll be in LA which is where David Wright is getting treatment from Doctor Robert Because Wilmer Flores's throws to 1st base wind up Here, There, and Everywhere Because the motto for the Mets offense is that they're Only Sleeping and that they score runs For No One
  5. And yet Turner's walk rates were always at least decent with the Mets and have barely changed at all since his move to L.A. .061 [OBA - BA] w/the Mets over 895 PAs vs .067 w/Dodgers in 536 Pas to date -- that's essentially no difference at all and both figures are right around league average What has changed are his BA & SLG to the point where the LA numbers don't even resemble the same person that played in NY: .330 / .552 -- vs -- .265 / .370
  6. It means if we get 2-hit again I'm going to shoot myself.
  7. The Mets have canned departing managers owing them money, often for multiple years, virtually every time they made a change. They may or may not make a decision to jettison Terry but that decision isn't going to hinge on balking at paying him 1/2 a season's salary.
  8. Whoever is going is going with an achin' in their heart.
  9. I believe the majority of Arrieta's Ks today have been on 3 pitches.
  10. Still waiting for our first non-Granderson/pitcher driven-in run since one week ago today.
  11. Eh, no worries, we can get to their pen. Oh wait, no we can't, we're scoreless across 12 innings with 6 hits against them all year!!
  12. Ceetar wrote: I'm sticking to them offering him the QO and him walking, as EVERY free agent does. The reason FAs who receive qualifying offers walk is that they know they can get better deals on the open market. Those who can't never see the offer.
  13. And once again the decision is made that we had far too many baserunners.
  14. Oh well, we had a shot at this game for a while there but there's no chance now.
  15. Obviously the strategy is that we've had too many baserunners so it's good to have them erased every once in a while.
  16. On the coming back rather than the going side of the ledger for the Marlins, Jose Fernandez gave up 2 runs to the Giants in the top of the 1st this afternoon in his first start since May 9, 2014.
  17. July 2nd in the opening day of sorts for signing internationals FAs subject to various rules and cap restrictions which I barely pretend to understand. Anyway, the Mets have inked themselves a pair of short-stops: - Andres Giminez from Venezuela who is listed by BA as the #2 prospect in this batch (although, as Jerry Seinfeld once said to Lloyd Bridges; Who knows how official any of this ratings really are?) Described as: 5-foot-11, 165 pounds with a sweet swing that works in games, above-average speed and the potential for average to above-average defense at shortstop. - Gregory Guerrero, Dominican Republic (nephew of Vlad) listed as #6 prospect. He "impressed scouts with his overall baseball IQ and ability to hit in games from the right side of the plate. At 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, Guerrero isnt a big runner but scouts generally felt he had a good chance to stay at shortstop with an above-average arm." Both are, like most of the rest of the list, 16 year olds so it'll be the 2020s before they hit their 20s and have a chance to contribute on the big league level. But it beats the club either sitting out this day or seemingly scraping around the fringes for bargain types as has been the case in past years. Familiar names signed by other teams include Vlad Guerrero Jr (the #1 prospect sez BA) and Fernando Tatis Jr.

  19. Highest batting average in MLB since opening day 2014 ... or so I heard somewhere a couple days ago though I don't claim to be able to independently confirm that veracity of that statement. I remember being less down on Turner than some here but there's no way I saw anything resembling this on the horizon. Backup infielders are like middle relievers, they go from good to bad to back again with seemingly no rhyme or reason and little way to predict when the next big shift is coming.
  20. Colon - 4.9 Parnell - 0.7 Familia - 0.7 Robles - 0.7 Murphy - 1.0 Mayberry - 0.5 Lagares - 0.5
  21. Yeah, that Grimm guy hadn't gotten close to the plate with one of his breaking balls and suddenly he breaks off a beauty when he's on the brink of loading the bases. But all that shows is that Plawecki shouldn't have taken two fastballs earlier in the count.
  22. T-minus 15 Hours until next game. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
  23. When in doubt, look at three straight strikes with the bat on your shoulder.
  24. Put deGrom in to PR for Flores and let him stay in at 2B if you tie it up. I DARE YA, Terry.
  25. I thought the E6 was our key to scoring. It was our go-to move in the series w/Cincy.
