  2. Frayed Knot wrote: Have all of our singles this season been followed up by GiDPs or just 80-some percent of them? Not that GiDPs only follow right on the heels of singles, but the Mets' GiDP to singles pct is "only" about 18% - still ridiculous and it's probably not surprising to anyone that the Mets lead the league in GiDPs (by six over anyone and some 30% higher than league average) despite having a near league worst OBP. And we can't even blame tonight's on Cuddyer.
  3. [insert opposing pitcher] has faced one over the minimum through five innings
  4. Have all of our singles this season been followed up by GiDPs or just 80-some percent of them? Most common expression in NYM games this year: [Opposing pitcher] has faced the minimum through three
  5. Now we just have to work on that getting the ball out of the infield thing. As of now the losingest pitcher in all of baseball since last July hasn't allowed one through the first 6 batters. Brewer hits in top 1st = 4 Met hits in 11 innings = 4
  6. I was one hit from starting tomorrow's IGT as an acknowledgment of this game's known outcome. Had it all typed out and was ready to hit 'Submit'
  7. Ceetar wrote: I don't know why no Kevin or Dilson. Don't look now, but neither one of them is hitting either.
  8. I suppose it would have been a bit greedy to expect the Phils to knock off the Yanx in three straight, but they're far enough behind us (at least for now) that I can root for them in the East-v-East NL/AL series. I like how the previous entry in this thread was when the Phile were getting bounced by the Pirates 1-0 twice in the same series. And now there's this series where they put up 11 runs in back to back games in the Bronx (vs Tanaka & Sabathia). Got smacked 10-2 today though. Rookie Makiel Franco has been going nuts lately [.319/.364/.604 on the season] including back-to-back 5 RBI days. Chase Utley, on the other hand, is still hitting .179 250 Pas into the season and has now been DL'd
  9. dgwphotography wrote: "a la Derek Jeter" I am so sick of the lie that is propagated regarding his tumble into the stands after his running catch.... Well, you know, no one in baseball history before St Derek had ever made a running catch towards the stands or made a jumping throw before. As far as this catch goes in particular, there are two reasons why it'll forever be compared to Jeter's a) he's Derek Jeter that catch happened during a tense Yanx/Sox game which means it was one of the few games the ESPN crowd was actually aware of. Donaldson's catch today -- coming as it did on a Wednesday afternoon in Tampa on the eve of the NBA draft and on the day after Brady's summit meeting -- might as well have not happened at all. But in reality there's probably a catch per month of that type that's far superior to Jeter's. Nolan Arenado had a ridiculous one a month or so back diving over the tarp. P.S. Donaldson stayed in the game after his catch. Guess who did not?

So, if recent history is any indication, that means we should be expecting a 7-inning/3-hit/8-K outing from him tonight. [Fiers had been 9 runs on 13 hits, 6 BBs in his 2 starts before last night]
  11. At least they went down fighting: 6th: K, K, GO 7th: GO. LO, HBP, K 8th: K, K, GO 9th: K, K, GO Last balls off NYM bats to leave the infield? Oh those were back in the 4th inning. They were still outs mind you, but at least they got past the infield dirt. For the last hit you need to go back to the 3rd. But it's not like we were facing the league's worst pitching staff or anything ... oh wait!
  12. Personally, I think that Bryce Harper's admission that he spends 30 minutes prior to each game doing his hair should make him ineligible for the HoF.
  13. Ashie62 wrote: All I know is Travis is perpertually injured behind the plate. But this is the first injury that had anything to do with being behind the plate - and as a tag play it's one that could have happened at a different base as well.
  14. batmagadanleadoff wrote: For the sake of being contrary, the agreement contains this key clause: Nothing in this agreement shall be deemed either an admission or a denial by Peter Edward Rose of the allegation that he bet on any Major League Baseball game. At which point Giamatti stated, during the announcement of said agreement, that, yeah, in his view Pete bet on baseball. That statement in particular ticked Rose off. Giamatti went on to make several statements about Rose 'demonstrating a change in his ways' as examples of things that could influence a theoretical future reinstatement but there were no specific requirements laid out and of course Giamatti was dead within a few days. Rose would go on to make no attempts whatsoever to change or even be open to the idea that he had anything in his life was in need of changing.
  15. Brewers are 1/2 game ahead of the Phils for worst record in MLB. We missed both catcher Jonathan Lucroy and SS Jean Segura the first time around when we took 2 of 3 at CitiField. Both are back now. The one game we lost in May was when we got 2-hit over 8 by Kyle Lohse whom we won't see here. In fact none of this series starters will be guys we saw the first time around. Of our three starters this week, Colon pitched the one game we lost [6 runs, 5 earned, over 5 IP]. deGrom gave up 1 run over 6 as he was on cruise control after the Mets put up a 10-run 4th inning. Carlos Gomez has been missing time lately but is expected back for this series.
  16. Centerfield wrote: I don't necessarily read that rule to mean he cannot appear at games, tip his hat and wave to the crowd, unless these guys are paid for such events. He can appear at games. He can do so by buying a ticket just like you and I. I also don't read that rule to mean he cannot be elected to the HOF, but the HOF and its' standards are seriously flawed in themselves. MLB's penalty doesn't bar him. But a separate ruling by the HoF some two years after the ban said that anyone on baseball's 'ineligible' list (a list that consists of all players named Peter Edward Rose Sr) would also be ineligible for HoF's ballot.
  17. Reynolds - I'm assuming Sharpie means Mark, not Matt Granderson - I'm not sure he has any at CitiField yet (Ba-Dump-CHING)
  18. ATorres - 0.75 Verrett - 1.25 Duda - 1.0 Lagares - 0.5
  19. Gwreck wrote: Two remaining players have less than 130 career homers OK that's freaky.
  20. Grimm is on track in the sense that the banned list was essentially a prison built for one man and the attachment that no one on the banned list be eligible for Cooperstown was a move seemingly made because the higher ups at MLB and at the HoF (those two are frequently treated as if one in the same in this whole Rose drama though they distinctly are not) were afraid that, if given the chance, the writers might just go ahead and vote him in even on the heels of the ban & the Dowd report. And indeed some writers were pissed off at having the opportunity to pass judgement taken away from them despite their role as being the approved gatekeepers for the previous half-century although a decent number of them (we'll never know for sure how many) wanted the ability to vote simply so they could cast a big 'NO' ballot so it's certainly not clear that he would have ever gotten in had the whole 'banned list' thing never been imposed.
  21. No Pujols is a huge surprise based on spending significant time in both leagues but (looking it up) he logically never HR'd agains the Cardinals in just 12 ABs I'd bet against Papi based on him sitting out so many games in Boston's trips to NL parks and that he didn't hit many prior to going to Boston, ergo no HRs against Boston. I'll try Josh Hamilton
  22. I think that study is perfectly cromulent.
  23. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I meant that if he had gotten the help he needed. If MLB confronted the root of the problem, touring the clubhouses would have been a good role. Not the case any more. This continues to imply that MLB was the one that needed to take the initiative. But no one can force Rose to change and he doesn't think his behavior needs changing. He gambles because he wants to not because he's powerless to quit.
