  1. I watched it the other night. Unrelentingly grim. Some memorable disturbing shots but can't say I enjoyed it.
  2. OK, most HOF passings in 48 years. Still a lot.
  3. Ad Al Kaline a few months ago and you surely have a record for most HOF passings in one year.
  4. Curtis Granderson #13 batter
  5. 30-30 3rd place Bullshit playoffs Win first round, lose next round 18 homers

  7. Hope to make it. That time is tight but send me an invite.
  8. Well I did think that was a tremendous coincidence that you might have been there, Batmags.
  9. Like Batmags, I was also at the Dwight Clark game. I was sitting in the end zone where the catch was made. My then gf and I spontaneously went to the game hoping to buy tix outside. We ended upboth getting in but not together. The SF Chronicle interviewed us trying to buy tix. When I showed up at work the next morning everyone knew I had been there from that article. Met memory: Greg Minton was having a lights-out year out if the pen for the Giants in ‘82 and was on his way to some kind of record for longest homerless appearances. He came into a game having been overused the past few days and gave up a crucial homer to John Stearns who I believe was coming off his own homerless streak as a batter. I liked Candlestick just like I liked Shea.
  10. Duke Snider was listed there as a DH but of course he never filled that role.
  11. Their Triple A team is the Indianapolis Indians who you would think would be a Cleveland affiliate but they are a Pirates farm team. So maybe some Indianapolins are Bucs fans.
  12. Liked: Ken Boyer. Was excited when the Mets traded for him and my dad took me to some meet-the-player thing where I got an autographed pucture. Dislike: Bob Veale. I don't really remember why.
  13. My revised list, adding a couple I've seen in recent weeks: PARASITE ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD PAIN AND GLORY THE IRISHMAN JOJO RABBIT LITTLE WOMEN MARRIAGE STORY BOOKSMART 1917 KNIVES OUT US THE FAREWELL THE TWO POPES AMERICAN FACTORY STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER YESTERDAY DOLEMITE IS MY NAME THE LIGHTHOUSE LATE NIGHT Seen in theaters except the five that were Netflix originals (IRISHMAN, DOLEMITE, MARRIAGE STORY, TWO POPES, AMERICAN FACTORY) plus YESTERDAY and BOOKSMART which were also TV-views. Total of 19 - one shy of a Top Ten and Bottom Ten which makes KNIVES OUT the most middling movie I saw this year, which feels right.
  14. Went into it with no expectations but found it charming. Saiorse Ronan was terrific. I had never read it or seen any of the various versions so the story was new to me. I did like how they adopted the life of Louisa May Alcott into the story.
  15. I like this a whole lot. Comedy turning into a tragedy was super-effective. What could have been a parody of rich Koreans becomes surprisingly sympathetic even though we are following the poor family who we both root for and against. Complex, detailed. Best picture of the year as far as I'm concerned.
  16. 1917 was brilliantly photographed and the cinematographer does deserve an Oscar. The one-shot trick has been done before in Hitchcock's Rope although 1917 is a better film, at least the one-shot gimmick was much better handled. But ultimately the "this happened and then this happened and then this happened" aspect wore on me as I didn't much care about the main character. I hadn't seen it when I made my list but I would rank it about the 8th best movie of 2019.
  17. I've been hearing talk of a Graham Parsons biopic for about ten years now. That must be in some development hell somewhere or other.
  18. Agree on WHEN THEY SEE US. I also liked THE TWO POPES - much funnier than I thought it would be.
  19. I would say that it never happened. Just as someone who manages one game gets to be called a manager even if he is an interim, I think someone who manages no games doesn't get to be called one.
  20. My list for 2o19 in rough order of preference: PARASITE ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD PAIN AND GLORY THE IRISHMAN JOJO RABBIT LITTLE WOMEN MARRIAGE STORY KNIVES OUT US THE FAREWELL THE TWO POPES STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER YESTERDAY DOLEMITE IS MY NAME THE LIGHTHOUSE LATE NIGHT
  21. It was okay. Hated the John is alive scene and the stadium reveal. Also hated the album cover bit. Also agree the music was too Paul- heavy. Other than that I liked the actors and the music sounded great.
  22. Agreed, both good but Let's Do This was my favorite over-all.
  23. Yeah, Let's Do This! is a winner of a cover. Also, do we need another Alonso cover winner?
  24. I agree on ScarJo and the kids were really great. It worked for me.
  25. McCann, Hundley and Molina - three catcher names.
