  1. From Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic: [bLOCKQUOTE]The industry reaction to the Angels agreeing with free-agent right-hander Noah Syndergaard on a one-year, $21 million contract was perhaps best summarized by one rival executive. “F—— ludicrous,” the executive said. The exec reasoned that Syndergaard, after throwing just two innings the past two seasons coming off Tommy John surgery, probably will be good for only about 125 innings next season. So, the Angels are paying a premium rate for a pitcher who will work only about 70 percent of a 180-inning workload, not that many starters even reach that total anymore (only 18 did in 2021).[/bLOCKQUOTE] https://theathletic.com/2960213/2021/11/16/rosenthal-why-the-angels-signed-noah-syndergaard-to-a-big-one-year-deal/https://theathletic.com/2960213/2021/11/16/rosenthal-why-the-angels-signed-noah-syndergaard-to-a-big-one-year-deal/
  2. A wall makes a return, albeit an out-of-town wall.
  3. Great post, WP. My memory is more contemporaneous: his public cry for a QO while saying that "it would be a tough pill to swallow not wearing a Mets jersey next year" and then signing elsewhere for more money without giving the Mets a chance to match or top the new offer. F him.
  4. I'd hire the smartest, most experienced guy possible and stand by my comment despite the condescending reply above. I'm sick of the Mets and Jets hiring novices. The Knicks hired Tibs and it definitely is a factor in their improvement. Every situation is different but I'm tired of watching managers who learn on the job.
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: Pre-eliminating entire categories of candidates is a dumb idea. Nah. It's smart based on the last two failures. (I suggest not calling others' thoughts "dumb". "Overly or unnecessarily restrictive" might have been a better alternative.)
  6. Mets get an extra draft pick between the 2d and 3d rounds. [bLOCKQUOTE]“It would be a tough pill to swallow not wearing the Mets jersey next year,” Syndergaard said in early October.[/bLOCKQUOTE] FU and good riddance. The Mets get an extra pick, don't have the risk associated w/him rehabbing on their time, and have (even) more $ for a healthy pitcher.
  7. https://twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1460627520043241483 FU NS.
  8. Excuse me, Noah. You practically begged for that QO. The Mets gave you courtesy innings (two of them) because you asked. I hope that this report is false.
  9. More than one name--just names that have crossed my mind as possibilities for Eppler to choose: Ron Washington (Sandy knows him from OAK) Brad Ausmus (Eppler hired and fired him in LA) Mike Shildt (still available, MoY finalist) Mike Scioscia (he doesn't bring back great memories for us but he's won a lot of games and was in The Simpsons). Two of the four were managers in the Toyko Olympics. Martino: https://sny.tv/articles/early-read-mets-managerial-possibilities-2021https://sny.tv/articles/early-read-mets-managerial-possibilities-2021 He also mentions Ausmus: [bLOCKQUOTE]A league official familiar with Eppler's thinking linked Eppler with the following names: Brad Ausmus, who managed under Eppler in Los Angeles before owner Arte Moreno forced a Joe Maddon hire; Joe Espada, the Houston bench coach who worked with Eppler as a Yankees scout and coach; Eric Chavez, whom Eppler brought over from the Yankees to serve as a special assistant with the Angels.[/bLOCKQUOTE] I don't want a former coach and/or a newbie. We had that with Manager Batting Out of Order and Manager Up/Downs. Give us someone that has done it many times before.
  10. I wonder who else was invited from the team besides members of the "Cookie Club". Of the 3 current Mets in attendance, all are candidates to be traded before next season.
  11. "Bloopers & A Blast" stands out with the use of the yellow in "Blast" which picks up the clothing from the Pirates fan in the background.
  12. "Finally" will be the most used word in articles about the hire especially because every potential free agent signing went to another team and they went into the season without a manager... oh, wait.
  13. Between Curb and this video it's been a big month for Dylan O'Brien. However, I'm glad that the picture is a joke as I don't need the Mets connected to "Him" and "Jake Lyon" in anyone's mind.
  14. Per Instagram, Pete Alonso and Haley got married on Friday. From other feeds, Jeff McNeil, JD, Dom and former Met minor leaguer Justin Dunn were there. Instagram WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM
  15. Off-topic but a follow-up to the last message, Pete got married this weekend: Instagram WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM Create an account or log in to Instagram - Share what you're into with the people who get you.
  16. I usually don't vote for matching headlines but the "Bear's Repeating" and "Bears RePETEing" are sufficiently different.
  17. Johneshwy Fargas makes an appearance in the Derby! We have our 2d cover which references a Bruce song (plus our first with a John Mellencamp song).
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I tend to think the face buried in the hands says more with less than the gushing-blood shot, but that may just be a matter of taste. That's valid but it's on two covers so, to me, The Post's gory version stands out.
  19. Cohen's interview with Cromie: SC: why did you leave the Nationals? Cromie: because Rizzo will die in that job, I didn't want a lateral move, and most importantly, with my contacts I was able to create a sports division at Jones Day which quadrupled my salary. SC: you left to make more money? Cromie: yes. SC: you're my kinda guy!
  20. =Centerfield post_id=80942 time=1636649114 user_id=65] How cool would it be if the TCD champion featured Mets running into the wall two years in a row.
  21. "Fright Fest" got a vote from me for the added bonus of Pillar looking at his own blood.
  22. The Athletic is also reporting that the Mets are waiting for Stearns' contract to expire. This means a lot of Sandy (and son) this year. I hope that they have an under-the-table agreement with Stearns or they will be in the same situation next off-season. Maybe they should hire John Stearns, too. Here's another column: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2021/11/11/22775751/mets-general-manager-search-steve-cohen-adam-cromiehttps://www.theringer.com/mlb/2021/11/11/22775751/mets-general-manager-search-steve-cohen-adam-cromie
  23. He won't cost the Mets a draft pick and Cohen will recoup some of his salary in ticket and ad sales from the Japanese market. Just don't go to the MFYs (Michael Kay: "Seiya Later!"). Nice job on the thread title.
  24. He works for Jones Day which is a top-level law firm and Jones Day helped get Chris Christie out of legal trouble because of "Bridgegate". Chris Christie is (sigh) an advisor to Cohen. Cromie did not work for Jones Day at that time but he is being "dragged" on Twitter because of the connection.
  25. What's with the News and the second picture of the same subject? It occurs twice in this Round.
