  1. Risky Business: oh, that train scene.
  2. It would be nice to have a week to enjoy being the NL Champs and to eagerly anticipate the Series. Instead, we look for Arizona Fall League stats and read the transcript of a tepid interview with Minaya.
  3. "play their game stay within themselves" That's the Red Sox advice? Funny, but that's the same thing that Carl Crawford said when asked after last night's game what the Rays have to do to win Game 5.
  4. "I think it is going to be on a four-year cycle. The three years between 2006 and 2009 is, for a reason I can't remember, a one-time anomaly." So it won't be held in an Olympic year.
  5. This makes sense as Philadelphia is the City of Brotherly Love.
  6. I won't be rooting for the Dodgers, I will be rooting against the Phillies.
  7. Hey Cub fan in Chicago--you, who has to get up at 6, or perhaps earlier, for work on Monday--or kids, who have school on Monday... if your team wins on Saturday, then be ready for a 9:25 central time start of Game 4 on Sunday! http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/ps.jsp
  8. I'm wondering how the city employees doing the taking apart of Shea, or the contract company that the city hired, became available the day after the season ended. It's not like anybody was 100% sure, other than Hanley Ramirez, that the Mets season would be over on Sunday so how did all of these employees suddenly become available? And would it have been the worst thing for the Mets, and the city, to open up Shea for a few days to let us look around one last time? I know that they were scared of looters but you have cops there anyway. They could even have made a few bucks by selling the leftover stuff at the souvenir stands for a discount.
  9. Our guys should be playing the Cubs right now.
  10. Audio slide show from [u:ee78ce0078]The Daily News[/u:ee78ce0078]: http://multimedia.nydailynews.com/audioslideshow/sports/20081001_dismantlingshea
  11. Hahn--that was indeed a great win. It made me think that this years team was different, more resilient, than in '07, and would therefore make the playoffs.
  12. August 29: Mets 5, Florida 4. Carlos Beltran hits a slam with 2 outs in the top of the 9th to turn a loss into a win. One of the most electrifying single moments of the season.
  13. "Am I missing any?" My July 24 game?
  14. This one is good as well--not as good as Berg's but worthwhile: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=moehringer/080929&sportCat=mlb
  15. Easy one: a great "worst to first" story versus Ozzie Guillen and Jerry Reinsdorf.
  16. In my mind, the Mets lost the WC, the Brewers didn't win it. I like Ryan Braun ("The Hebrew Hammer") and Corey Hart helped my fantasy team. I wish nothing but despair for the Phillies and their fans.
  17. I surprised myself by voting for the Cubs. Pinella's a jerk but I'll take his over LA because of Joe Torre.
  18. Red Sox management is too cocky and Boston fans have had way too much fun of late but if the Angels win it all, K-Rod's price will go higher (in case the Mets are interested). Plus, the less the Angels play, the fewer innings that K-Rod has to throw. Add to the mix: my son in Cambridge, a fervent Mets fan, admits that it's fun at school when the Red Sox do well; and, any Red Sox success pisses off MFY fans... so a tepid vote for the Red Sox.
  19. July 24: Mets 3 Phillies 1. This one stood out for me because it was my only game at Shea this year and our three-generational farewell to Shea. Ollie pitched great, Heilman stopped a possible rally in the 8th, getting Jayson Werth with the bases loaded (in retrospect, that was a shocker) and Billy pitched a 1-2-3 9th. In the 8th, Cancel lead off with a pinch-hit single, J. Reyes sac'd him to second (grrr), Endy lined out, David Wright was walked, and then Carlos Delgado, against his nemesis J.C. Romero, doubled in two runs.
  20. What do you think about Ryan Church? Is he going to be the everyday RF next year? We don't know who the real Ryan Church is. I never thought of much of Church when he was with the Nationals and neither did the Nationals. With the Mets, he played every day and as of May 20, he was hitting .379 with 9 HR and 32 RBI. Then, his head hit the knee of Yunel Escobar (remember Atlanta fans booing Church two days later?) and he wasn't the same for the rest of the year. He was supposed to be healthy in September but we can all visualize him waiving at sinkers in the dirt. With the Mets, he played every day and had superior players around him than he had in Washington, so maybe what we saw pre-injury was the real Ryan Church. Or, maybe that was an aberration. A smart guy who I used to converse with at the late [u:760c731386]New York Times[/u:760c731386] Mets Forum wrote to me on Monday and we discussed Church. He opined that Church "is what he is. Concussion may have stopped him, but he was due for slump. We were lucky that he hit while everyone else was asleep in April and May. Was an okay #2 hitter when hot, but the Mets need more from their corners OFer." Church is also an excellent defender and appeared to like NY. I remember that when he returned, he got a standing ovation which made his wife cry. Francessa disagrees, saying yesterday that Church "hated New York... hated his team, hated the city." Jon Heyman said that he never heard that. I don't believe everything Francessa says, of course. So are the Mets good at RF next year with Church or should Omar look for an upgrade?
  21. Perhaps: the two didn't come through so the team couldn't get a "W"--that's why the W in Wright is misplaced.
  22. Omar's "brand" discussion pissed me off. It's as if he was justifying the standings by saying that the team is making a boat load of money. What do we care if the "brand" is solid?
  23. I wonder if Omar will go after Derek Lowe. He's a FA and had a good season: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=3640 However, he's 35.
  24. I'd like a poster of the 9/24 picture. Can I order it from the CPF store?
  25. Nymr83 wrote: BMFC- i have no interest in opening a stadium with stupid interleague play, if anything i'd want to open with a traditional rival like the Cubs or Phillies I agree. I was quoting someone else. The beginning and end of the season should be against divisional foes... although the last series shouldn't be against Florida.
