  1. Frank: It's a topsy-turvy world, and maybe the problems of two people don't amount to a hill of beans. But this is our hill. And these are our beans! One of the greatest baseball sequences in history, including a perfect parody of baseball blooper reels. Naked Gun, Airplane!, Spinal Tap.... three of my all-time favorites.
  2. Perhaps you're thinking of the scene which makes you think that "Kevin Kline is a lucky man."
  3. In honor of Art Buchwald, I voted for Coming to America.
  4. "The thrill of the grass." "Dad... wanna have a catch?" Witness has a topless Kelly McGillis, but FOD is one of the greatest ever.
  5. Lloyd Dobler: What I really want to do with my life - what I want to do for a living - is I want to be with your daughter. I'm good at it. Tough one but I like Say Anything better. Maybe it's my bias toward John Cusack.
  6. Down goes Mel Gibson AGAIN!
  7. We should have a separate tournament for baseball-related movies (Bill Simmons argues that Bull Durham is really a chick flick in disguise). Having said that, Bull Durham is wonderful, even though Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone, as argued by Crash Davis. The look that Annie gives Crash on the porch in the final scene of the movies is priceless. And this is the film that gave Robert Wuhl the greatest moment of his career:
  8. Two good ones--I loved the Fletch books--but I went with Tom Hanks and John Candy. Remember how happy Candy's character was when he saw that his letter was published in [u:3tt9s8hq]Penthouse[/u:3tt9s8hq]?
  9. Disgusting comment by Jeff Wilpon. It shows that he has no sensitivity for Mets history and the feelings of his fans. There should be games being played at Shea right now, not the destruction of a facility that is important to so many people.
  10. I thought of SKOW the other day when I saw Molly Hagen in an episode of The Ghost Whisperer. I swear, I was just sitting with my wife, waiting to see Jeniffer Love Hewitt.
  11. The use of Poltergeist in the new Direct TV ad is extra creepy because the cute little girl is dead. I don't like scary movies but I voted against Mel Gibson.
  12. I know that there's something to it but the Phillies were better and the Mets should have won more games. Hatred from the other teams didn't stop the Mets from getting Murphy in from 3d with nobody outs. But what can you do to change this? Is there a better person in the game than David Wright? Reyes tried to curb his enthusiasm and felt that it hampered his game--Carlos Delgado told him to be himself. The Mets aren't going to be subdued, they are always going to be from New York (as far as we know) and they are always going to have a high payroll.
  13. So Madden thinks that if the Mets acted with more restraint, they wouldn't be "hated" by the opposition even though the team has a high payroll and is from NY, both of which makes other teams jealous. Perhaps if the Mets acted with the class of Shane Victorino, or were solid citizens like Brett Myers, the other teams would lay down during critical September games. Madden went for the easy story, as usual. Wally Matthews must be kicking himself for not writing this, again, today. There are many reasons that the Mets are home, none of which have to do with the Mets behavior.
  14. I like the Rays and badly hope that they win, but we've seen the multiple ways that the Phillies can beat you. I hope I'm wrong, but Philadelphia in six. Great move on my part: I clicked the button for Rays in 6, not Phillies in 6 and I can't fix it. I screwed up my own poll. Call Zogby!
  15. Not who you want to win but who you think will win... and how many games will it take. ESPN's "experts" pick Tampa, 8 to 5. SI's "experts" pick Tampa, 5 to 4.
  16. It could be a reflection on Mel Gibson.
  17. [as Buttercup prepares to commit suicide with a dagger] Westley: There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours. My younger son read [u:gg29zdhv]The Princess Bride[/u:gg29zdhv] last year in school and loved it. After he finished, we watched the movie and it was still wonderful.
  18. "Talk about bun cakes, my girls got 'em." If I have to choose between Airplane! and Spinal Tap, my head will explode.
  19. BHC is the second movie in these polls that featured John Ashton (Midnight Run was the other).
  20. How did all these workers and their machinery get in place so fast? Theoretically, the Mets could still be playing so they couldn't have scheduled the work in advance for these dates. It's as if they knew the Mets would screw it up and they were ready to go.
  21. "Sure it does." TMF: I wish you said "Surely it does."
  22. Don't forget Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter movies. He was a great villain in Die Hard.
  23. Every year, during one of the holidays, we visit our friends and every year, someone asks our hostess how she likes her coffee and every year, she says "Black. Like my men." It's a tradition. I recently bought the "Don't Call Me Shirley!" "Special Edition" of Airplane! with new commentary from the cast. The movie is still hilarious and easily got my vote. Midnight Run is very good, but not as good as Airplane! (David Zucker's crossing over to the dark side is very depressing.)
  24. It must suck to have your bullpen blow such a big lead.
  25. Don't forget that Matthew Broderick is a Mets fan. We're not sure about the loyalties of Roger Rabbit.
