  1. I invite Edgy to remake the batting orders in that cool format thing he does. Mets Jose Reyes SS Alex Cora 2B Carlos Beltran CF Gary Sheffield LF David Wright 3B Ryan Church RF Fernando Tatis 1B Omir Santos C Livan Hernandez RHP (1-1, 7.31) Marlins: Emilio Bonifacio 3B Cameron Maybin CF John Baker C Jorge Cantu 1B Jeremy Hermida LF Dan Uggla 2B Cody Ross RF Alfredo Amezaga SS Ricky Nolasco RHP (1-2, 6.86)
  2. From the Business of Baseball, an apology: http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3204:mlb-networks-matt-vasgersian-needs-to-work-on-being-professional&catid=48:ei-mlb-network&Itemid=82
  3. Apparently, one scout thinks so--from Adam Rubin's blog: A National League scout who watched the Mets this weekend against the Nationals said the consesus among his brethren is that Daniel Murphy belongs at Triple-A Buffalo. The scout quickly noted that Murphy should head to the minors for a defined period of time, no more than two or three weeks, and that it should be explained that it isn't a punishment. It merely would be a period of time to learn the outfield in a pressure-free environment. The scout suggested Murphy's hitting (one homer) isn't enough to offset his fielding liabilities right now. The scout applauded all the early work Murphy is doing in the outfield, but he also observed that coach Razor Shines wasn't hitting the balls from home plate. The practice flies were just lofting, and didn't have the same movement that in-game liners have. Murphy's instinct is to turn to the gap on fly balls, and he's been falling trying to spin when the balls cut or slice toward the line, depending on if it's a righty or lefty batting. Jerry Manuel and Murphy acknowledged that Murphy is chasing balls above the strike zone, but the scout described it in a little deeper detail. He said the word is out that the way to attack Murphy is to throw cutters and other fastballs in on Murphy's hands, since Murphy has a wide, closed stance. The scout noted that Jordan Zimmermann did it with precision Sunday. "The New York Mets deserve better," the scout said. "They have a big outfield and a big payroll. That's not a knock on Daniel Murphy. I love the kid. It's not like he's a home run threat every time he comes up. He's a doubles guy. It's not like they're getting the offense to overcome it." http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/
  4. Hysterical. Nice work by Billy Ripken to try and focus Matt Vasgersian (maybe Vasgersian thought he was doing an XFL game again).
  5. Goodbye Casey Fossum, welcome Ken Takahashi. http://www.japaneseballplayers.com/en/player.php?id=ktakahashi http://buffalo.bisons.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Ken%20Takahashi&pos=P&sid=t422&t=p_pbp&pid=548092 Ollie doesn't have minor league options left so he has to consent to being sent down. Ugh.
  6. http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/mets/archives/2009/04/fossum_dfad_oll.html Goodbye Fossum. But what will going to the 'pen do for Ollie? They'll say that they'll skip his turn (off-day on Thursday) and will work with him for now.
  7. Kong--he's gonna be a good one but, when it's 8 to 1 against the crappy Nats, in part because he messed up again on a ball hit over his head, I gotta wonder if they handled this the right way.
  8. Thank you Seo. Gotta be done. And isn't it a pleasure to watch Murphy learn how to play the OF in the bigs? He seems to be a good guy and we know he has a good bat but they could have had Dunn for next-to-nothing. He can't field either, but we know he'll hit 30 homers.
  9. Can they send Ollie to Buffalo? With a day off this week, they could skip his turn, call up Figueroa, and give him the start a week from Tuesday.
  10. We didn't have be subjected to this crap but our GM saw fit to resign Perez for 3 years. Nicely done Omar. Oh yeah, Jesus Flores was a Met property but Omar lost him in the Rule V draft.
  11. Dibble's an idiot. His hiring exemplifies the incompetence of that organization. Bob Carpenter is a cliche machine who knows nothing about baseball. I sync'd FAN, via mlb audio, to the TV.
  12. Good thing Dukes had those sunglasses... on top of his hat.
  13. "The Daily News has learned that pitcher Nelson Figueroa has re-signed with the Mets and will report back to Triple-A Buffalo."
  14. Baseball lover Chico Harlan says that the Nationals are interested in Pedro: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal/2009/04/exploring_citi_field_and_the_p.html?wprss=nationalsjournal Meanwhile, Bob Carpenter just pointed out that it was 10:00 in NY. He pointed out that it was 9 and 9:30. I'm waiting for him to give traffic and weather, too.
  15. They bitched about the bullpen for the entire half-inning. Carpenter wondered how the league could allow it and Dibble wondered if there was a brawl, if the bullpen pitchers would fight from across the adjacent bullpens.
  16. Bob Carpenter accused the Mets of "gamesmanship" and said it was "unprofessional" to force the visiting team's bullpen to watch the game via a TV. First of all, the Mets aren't clever enough for gamesmanship and second, the TV is an upgrade from last week.
  17. Suck on that, Rob Dibble. During the entire AB, Dibble continued to insult Tatis, including saying that he swung like he had a donut on the bat.
  18. Nats color guy, moron Rob Dibble, after Tatis' double on an 0-2 count: "he's not that good."
  19. I'm up to page 100 in Ron Darling's book and it's very good... it's no [u:8cy9vd50]Faith & Fear In Flushing[/u:8cy9vd50], but it's still good. It gives you insight into the mind of a pitcher.
  20. Well done Edgy! Big week for us NY fans living in the DC area with the Mets playing the Nationals and the Rangers playing the Capitals. More on the Nationals from our old friend Tim Marchman: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/tim_marchman/04/23/washington.nationals/index.html
  21. "What would you have done - DL-ed Big Pelf?" I concur with BG--I would have started Stokes. The Mets were undoubtedly concerned about being short in the BP if they did that but Monday was a day off.
  22. So the Mets lose Nelson Figueroa, a AAAA pitcher, but someone that can start and relieve (and would be a better choice than Brian Lawrence, Dave Williams, Brandon Knight, and Aaron Sele in a desperate September start) AND Darren O'Day, who looked OK, not great, but is still unknown, in exchange for Mike Pelfrey being able to start this weekend (by not DL'ing him) AND Casey Fossum. Well done Omar! It only took until late April for you to make an in-season screw up. It usually takes until the trade deadline.
  23. Church was doing fine and the Jerry decided to sit him for Sheffield. Maybe one game didn't matter but I doubt that it helped.
  24. I know the Braves overpaid for Lowe but it would have been worth it not to be subjected to this crap from Perez.
