  1. You're right, Ceetar. I guess ESPN didn't want the Mets/MFPs on July 5. MLB could have had a day/night DH on July 3, as they did in '07, but the MFP's have a night game out-of-town the night before. The way the schedule stands, if it rains all day on September 13 and 14 (both teams are off on the 14th), there will be problems. I wonder why they didn't use the open day of Sept. 14 for the make-up (perhaps it would have run afoul of the rules concerning number of consecutive games).
  2. Do you have tickets for the Mets hosting the MFYs on June 28? Were you looking forward to a Sunday afternoon at CF? Perhaps a barbeque after the game and then getting some rest before going back to work? If you weren't going, were you looking forward to hearing Gary, Ron and Keith, the best announcing team in baseball, call the game? Well, either way, you are SOL. The game has been "picked up" by ESPN which means an 8:10 start and an evening with Steve Phillips and Joe Morgan (Jon Miller is no match for those two). Plus, the Mets have to travel to Milwaukee for a night game on Monday so that means hearing that "the Mets didn't get to their hotel rooms until 4 AM."
  3. Even Nationals TV says it's a HR. Using the opportunity to rag on the "crazy dimensions."
  4. And to his credit, Harlan replies.
  5. 7. Wrong thread.
  8. As mentioned, I was lucky enough to be at Saturday's game. You saw it, and may never forget it, so I'll limit my comments to our trip to Fenway: It was a fantastic evening. As the 9th started, I said to my son that this was great and he agreed. Of course, it got even better. We loved Fenway, the excitement of the crowd, the beauty of the ballpark, and, of course, a magnificent game. Good trivia question on the scoreboard (I apologize if they used it on TV): name the only two pitchers to give up more than one homerun to both Carl Yastrzemski and Gary Sheffield. (The answer at the end of the post). My son and I got to Fenway at 5--two hours before game time--and the streets, including Yawkey Way, were packed. People couldn't wait to get inside. This is nice: if it's your first time at Fenway, you can go to an office and give them your name. In the fifth inning, they put our names on the scoreboard to "Welcome Fenway First Timers." They also gave us a coupon for a free Fanfoto (the same company you see at Mets games). Between 5 and 6 PM , there were some food items at half-price. That's a nice touch. It made a slice of pizza, usually $4.50, more reasonable. We were seated near Pesky's Pole. My son and I went over for a picture and there was a line. People were trading cameras to get a picture with the right field foul pole. I've never seen so many cameras at a game--it was like being in a museum (a museum that lets you take pictures). What Gary Cohen said on Friday is correct: the Fenway crowd loves "Sweet Caroline." The woman next to me and her daughter were so into the song--making hand motions--that they were on the video board. I wasn't in the shot so people didn't see me staring at her in amazement. Shame on the Mets for copying this tradition. We should make our own traditions. The seats are Shea seats (hard plastic). The rows are tight and cramped. The crowd is into the game (not that every fan is a genius: every time Gary Sheffield got up, a guy near me yelled "499 Gary!"). They honor the team's history. Imagine that. There was a video tribute to Luis Tiant (to the sounds of "Louie, Louie"). He was also at the game. When Paplebon came in, they played "Shipping Up To Boston." The crowd went nuts and it was a great moment. (It was even better a few minutes later.) You heard the overlapping chants of "Lets Go Mets" and "Lets Go Red Sox." At one time, some guy yelled out "Yankees Suck" and everybody joined in. There are some things that we both agreed on. Trivia answer: Dennis Martinez and Mike Morgan.
  9. G-Fafif said what I would have said, so I will just recommend your watching this video (NSFW!!!):
  10. Great KTE, Gwreck. I will be at Saturday's game. I will wear my Mets hat and a Mets t-shirt. Same with my younger son. I hope we make it out there alive--and victorious.
  11. Some unusual (please don't nitpick on the use of "unusual") events last night (5/20): Jacob Ellsbury tied a record for put-outs: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/05/21/the_ultimate_tracking_device/ The Astros batted out of order: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/6434155.html The Rangers completed a triple play: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090520&content_id=4841850&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb The MFYs hit three consecutive homeruns in one inning (which might have caused John Sterling to explode): http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=4649865

  18. Meanwhile in DC, 1st and 2d, 0 out, Nationals up by 1, a MFPhillie bunts, the pitcher grabs it away from Zimmerman, throws to first, where Anderson Hernandez, covering first, [u:4d3eaa8b31]drops his arms [/u:4d3eaa8b31]so the throw goes up the RF line and 2 runs score.
  19. Howie: "J.J. [u:14fed6aec6]puts [/u:14fed6aec6]it in the books!"
  20. Putz throwing hard. The adrenalin must be pumping.
  21. Edgy DC wrote: See what happens when you let Castro bat for himself in the ninth? Jerry = learning. Good point. That Wednesday afternoon game against the Marlin still stings.
  22. Karros: "Tatis is a gamer. Doesn't care if he's in or out of the lineup." Great analysis.
  23. ARGH! Someone should have got that.
  24. Dibble is a moron. I hear him locally on the Nats games and he's beyond bad. He's made XM 175 off-limits for me between 4 and 7.
  25. Edgy wants us to focus on today. We're not here to post about the future. Nice back-handed toss by Johan. I hope he wins both the Gold Glove and the Cy Young.
