  1. I'm torn about Thole. It looks like he can hit for average, calls a good game and has a good arm, but the experts tell us that his ceiling is as a back-up. I wish he had more pop but maybe that will develop.
  2. Awww, thanks. (But according to some, I'm "heartless.")
  3. Thanks Zvon. Why aren't the Mets wearing their '86 throwback jerseys or at least the pinstripes? "Coors: the ban-quit beer."
  4. Agreed Zvon. Nice to see so many other Mets on the stage w/the honorees. Darryl hit the tying HR in Game 5 of the NLCS against Houston--off Nolan Ryan--and it's the only playoff game I've attended (thus far, please!). I was sitting in the Mezzanine Box, 1B side, and the ball passed in front of us like a bolt of lightning.
  5. I'm not angry but disappointed because I think that they still have a slight shot this year (maybe it's less than 10% but it's greater than zero). If Omar doesn't think that they do (a logical position), then he should have been able to trade to improve the team next year (G-Fafif had a good point that perhaps the only GM that would have traded for Francoeur and Castillo is Omar, but if Jacobs can be dealt then who knows?) You're anti all trades, Edgy, citing them as "heartless." I want more than a .500 club and I'm sure that you do too but how do you do that w/o trades, FA and/or a great farm system. The Mets, by all accounts, don't have a great farm system so what then? I contend that a clever GM does that by trading overrated prospects and current expendables (e.g. Barajas). And that certainly should have been done w/o trading Thole, Ike, etc. (and it's nice to have untradables). Bottom line for me is that Omar did nothing to improve the team, either for '10 or '11.
  6. Loved that, MFS.
  7. Cool that they played Kevin's interview w/Jesus over the PA. Nice job by Acosta, Takahashi, Frankie, Jesus, Jose, Angel, Carlos and DW. And yes I'll say it, to Omar, Mr. Inactive, for getting Acosta and Jesus on the roster. (See, I'm not always negative.)
  8. One pitch and the umps screw the pooch already. Unfreakingbelievable.
  9. Fair point Ceeter. Maybe a AA starter with a 5 ERA. BTW, all the Giants gave up for Ramirez is a AA pitcher with a 4.09 ERA: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=turpen001dan But who says that the Mets aren't doing anything... Alyssa Milano is signing autographs tonight: http://twitpic.com/2agz38

(sigh) I don't understand why they didn't take the Red Sox offer of Ramon Ramirez for Rod. That would have been a minor deal but helped in the 'pen at no cost (Rod won't be here next here and is only catching 3X/week). And I don't understand why our GM couldn't have gotten a AA starter with a 4 ERA for Francoeur.
  11. The Mets were winning until Jerry took out Pelfrey. Yes, Reyes made a critical error (that's 2 easy plays this week that he should have had), yes Castillo sucks, yes Francoeur sucks, and yes Valdes was horrible, but we don't know what would have happened if Jerry had left Pelfrey in for one more batter in favor of someone who had warmed up 4X already. None of this excuses the players but they scored 6 runs tonight and might--MIGHT--have won if Jerry had done nothing. It kills me when a manager interjects himself into the game unnecessarily. But both points co-exist: the team is mediocre and I'm not excusing them.
  12. I didn't see Valdes screwing the pooch but I did think that it was a bad move at the time. Two outs, the runner was on because of an error and Pelfrey had just got the 2d out. Jerry should have let Pelfrey pitch to Kelly Johnson.
  13. When do Mets pitchers start drilling the other teams? They're get hit and buzzed every night.
  14. How I hate Castillo. Meanwhile, did you see the fan trip as they were going to commercial? http://yfrog.com/18jo0z
  15. Ledger_NYMets Two fans storm the field waving Mexican flags. They are either protesting Arizona's immigration law or the misuse of Oliver Perez.
  16. MFY get Austin Kearns. That's two bats today. Meanwhile, Omar does nothing.
  17. Winner of a contest to announce an inning. 11th grade girl... when the inning started, Gary asked her what she would say if she called a David Wright HR (her favorite player) and then she got to call a DW HR.
  18. Jerry, you are a moron. It was 2 out and the runner was on b/c of an error.
  19. Way to over-manage, Jerry.
  20. Is it creepy that someone on Twitter (NOT ME!) found KaraAnne's Twitter page?
  21. I hope that her call is played on Sports Center. Also, it would be nice if the Mets found the ball, got DW to sign it, and gave it to her.
  22. KaraAnne Galante is a better announcer than John Sterling.
  23. ... cause 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
  24. How great is RA? Too bad Michael Kay is off today because he's constantly claiming that Dickey can't keep this up. He said that 2 months ago and he's [u:2s26wcnl]still [/u:2s26wcnl]wrong. Meanwhile, if Pelfrey got back on track, the Mets would have 4 solid starters.
