  1. Howie's on vacation during the season? Is he conserving energy for the Islanders? Take a weekend off connected to the All-Star break but don't abandon us during the season. Gary doesn't take a vacation--he's not a weakling like Kay who skips numerous road trips.
  2. He was overly concerned with the runner trying to score from 3d because if he throws it to Turner, Turner is facing the runner and can throw it to Thole (who might have dropped it but that's another story). "One thing about Dan, he listens and listens and wants to learn and get better. We often forget, he didn't play last year. And we forget, two years ago he played outfield and first, and this year he played three different positions. And all he does is give his best effort. He makes some mistakes, but he's not the only guy out there doing it. The thing with Dan, when it's explained to him, I bet it never happens again." 3. Sux that The Times treats the Mets are a stepping stone to what is seen as a better beat.
  4. Harris rewarded with a start after watching strike 3 last night. Pagan looked dehydrated so why not give Pridie a start?
  5. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The Pagan DP really killed it for me. Detweiler walked his first batter so the next batter should take a pitch--maybe Detweiler's not going to throw a strike--but Pagan doesn't think that way and swung at the 1st pitch. The Bisons pounded Maya last week, the Mets have been pounded every pitcher they face, so last night made no sense.
  6. Top of the 9th, Mets down by 2, 2 outs, 2 on, Terry sends up Scott Hairston. As he approaches home, he looks up toward Nationals GM Mike Rizzo and yells "how dare you trade my brother!" Scott then blasts a three run homerun. As he touches home plate, he looks again at Rizzo and yells "vengeance is mine!"
  7. Yunesky Maya gets for the start for Washington instead of Jason Marquis who is now a Diamondback. Maya started Gee's MLB debut (when Second Splitter and I were in attendance).
  8. A hot summer night in DC. Lots of Mets fans--Citi Field South.
  9. It's a family night at Nationals Park, section 115, BB.
  10. I will be sitting with my younger son in 115, AA.
  11. BobKlap Bob Klapisch Watching Santana warm up for his 6:30 start. Appears loose, good arm action. Getting warmed up won't be a problem in this heat. #Mets BobKlap Bob Klapisch by AdamRubinESPN Santana's first inning: no runs, one hit, one HBP, two K's, three swings and misses in 18 pitches. Some rust, but overall not bad. BobKlap Bob Klapisch by AdamRubinESPN No scoreboard radar, so my best guess is that Santana was between 88-90 in first inning. BobKlap Bob Klapisch by AdamRubinESPN Seven-pitch inning for Santana in the 2nd: one-out double into the left field corner, but erased on a liner to short DP. #Mets AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin RT @stluciemets: Santana 1-2-3 third inning. Two groundouts and strikeout. Scoreless game bottom 3rd. BobKlap Bob Klapisch by AmazinAvenue Santana is done after 33 pitches, three innings, no runs, three K's, two hits. #Mets
  12. Great story. What was most impressive was the fact that the older boy didn't hesitate when he saw how upset the younger boy was. Tx attgig.
  13. It's in-game tradey talk. It stays.
  14. Capuano is decent and seems like a good guy but they got him for nothing and he's an injury risk so if Sandy can get an OK prospect in exchange, he should do it.
  15. Keith just said that Murphy is not a 2B and in the off-season has to "work on his corner OF positions... work hard."
  16. Rude of Duda to make Guys! stop the one hour discussion w/the Louisville Slugger guy.
  17. I'm with Transmonk. I thought of those two. And his slide last night on the sac fly. I was cursing Bay for not hitting it far enough and somehow Carlos beat throw and the tag. A final great act as a Met.
  18. What happened to the theory that the Mets would only get mid-level prospects? They got the 55th best prospect in the country. I would have preferred a hitter but this is a good return.
  19. From Toby Hyde: Im very skeptical on Zack Wheeler. The 21-year old has fanned 10 batters/9 in the Cal League but walked 4.8 batters per nine. I saw him for five innings in 2010, and the velocity was plus. His breaking ball was crude and he was very wild. The numbers say, hes still wild. He has a long way to go. http://www.metsminorleagueblog.com/meet-your-trading-partner-san-francisco-giants/ http://bleacherreport.com/articles/736680-san-francisco-giants-zach-wheeler-and-10-best-prospects-in-the-farm-system/page/10
  20. Ceetar wrote: Problem is, i could see Beltran liking SF, and staying there. I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping for Texas since he's already left that state once.
  21. More from Toby Hyde: I have not seen Gary Brown, the Giants first round pick out of Cal State Fullerton in 2010, but if the Mets are doing a deal with San Francisco, the 22-year old is easily target #1. Hes hit .317/.386/.466 with 24 doubles, six triples and eight homers with 39 stolen bases in 95 games for San Jose in the California League. Yes, its a hitters league, but San Jose has the most pitcher-friendly ballpark on the circuit. Bottom line: a premium defender in center with speed, average and a little pop. Yes, please. Brown and Nimmo--2/3ds of the Mets OF of the future.
  22. Gary Brown seems to be a key: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker&id=brown-005gar http://bleacherreport.com/articles/699006-san-francisco-giants-prospect-gary-brown-br-exclusive-with-emerging-outfielder tobyhyde Top 3, I think. RT @Rob_Zloto: for perspective, if brown included where he'd rank among mets elite prospects?
  23. Bring in a hand held fruit.
