  1. MFY fan in my office, to me this morning: "35 predictions on ESPN and not one picked the Yankees to win the AL East." Scrappy underdogs, those Yankees: http://www.readtheapple.com/2011/09/celebrate-underdog-yankees-miracle-run.html
  2. Edgy DC wrote: Well, what you've missed is that Collins is trying to address his bullpen's failures by stretching them --- looking to use five or six guys to get three innings out of, rather than three (or two! or one!). All it's gotten him is a greater likelihood of the game being in the hands of that one guy who's got nothing but a serving platter that night, plus more tired pitchers the next day. Edgy nails it.
  3. I voted with my heart as I hope that he will be non-tendered the second the season ends. I never want to see him pitch for the Mets again. I know that there are logical reasons for keeping him but I don't care.
  4. Terry continues to over-manage. I thought that Beato had a tired arm.
  5. I thought that one of the reasons for this practice was to give fans of teams that are out of the race a chance to see the prospects and perhaps get some hope for the next season. Whatever the rationale, I can't get past the fact that you're playing under different rules when the games matter most. No question that the rosters should be greater than 25 for April.

  7. The Mets first trip to St. Louis since April, 2010.
  8. Finish in 3d, ahead of those pieces of shit scumbags, the Washington Nationals.
  9. "Guys, why are you laughing? Guys?"
  10. Are you among the few that will be lucky enough to see the Mets play the Braves this Saturday on FOX? http://the506.com/mlbmaps/ For us in DC, no.
  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I only count eleven months. If that's in sequence, I pick Pelfrey (October) as the guy most likely to be gone before his month comes up. Amended to include Niese, Mr. January.
  12. It's time for my annual look at the Mets wall calendar, the one you see at the calendar kiosk at your local mall. It won't be as mocking as usual because for the first time in three years, everybody on the calendar is still on the team or at least on the roster. This will obviously change but it's not like Beltran or F. Rodriguez is there. http://www.amazon.com/YORK-METS-12X12-WALL-CALENDAR/dp/1436085594/ref=sr_1_114?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1316180568&sr=1-114 Niese Pagan Thole Johan Terry (you know you're a bad team when the manager gets his own month) Ike R.A. Bay Gee Murphy Pelfrey Wright. No Jose--maybe they know something.
  13. Wayne just talked about "our" first trip to the new stadium in Miami so I guess he'll be back. Howie said "I don't know why anybody would take winter over summer."
  14. Howie is discussing the differences between winter and summer. I hope you're right Ceetar about shakeups.
  15. FK: "And now Pagan watches a ball drop at his feet for a double - one batter after Tejada bobbles a sure GiDP and only gets one out." Add that to the pickoff--quite a day for Pagan.
  16. Terry talked for months about how much this team cared. Well after Beltran was traded, that all went away. They're a bunch of minor leaguers. And where's Sandy these days? Any thoughts from the top? And a special "F you" on behalf of us Mets fans in the DC area.
  17. Good guesses FK but the answer was: swing at the first pitch after consecutive walks.
  18. How about PH'ing Reyes right now for Tejada?
  19. 2d balked in run this season (the other was a game ender against ATL). They draw within a run, have a little momentum for once and then the 'pen lets it go to shit.
  20. Maybe it's nothing but show. But I suspect, and truly hope, that a teenager who is being bullied because of his or her sexuality gets some solace when a professional athlete shows some compassion and says that you'll feel better someday.

  23. The Nationals had the Mets just where they wanted--2 on, none out.
  24. Oddly enough, FK report above is exactly what can be found in the official press notes. [u:celllrav]Mets:[/u:celllrav] 1. Ruben Tejada ® SS 2. Justin Turner ® 2B 3. David Wright ® 3B 4. 25. Was there any doubt that he'd catch it? F these guys, 4th place and dropping. What's the difference between how the team gave up in September of '10 for Jerry with how this team has given up for Terry?
