  1. Swarzak nails his first tweet as a Met: [tweet:3n259iuv] [/tweet:3n259iuv]
  2. The Mets selected Andrew Ely in the minor league phase. I don't see much good about his batting numbers, maybe he's a great fielder or maybe he's just a AAA roster player, but I like his outspoken Twitter feed which is unusual for a ballplayer: https://twitter.com/andrew_ely41 https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=ely---000and
  3. Edgy MD wrote: Man, that's not how you spell Damien Magnifico! Pittsburgh picked him.
  4. With the 6th pick, the Mets selected Burch Smith, RHP, from Tampa. He was in the majors with the Padres. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burch_Smith http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=12784&position=P BUT: [tweet:gmhue4bo] [/tweet:gmhue4bo] ANYTHING FOR A BUCK: [tweet:gmhue4bo] [/tweet:gmhue4bo]
  5. All of the excitement live! right here: https://www.mlb.com/video/rule-5-draft/c-1869518583?tid=40498098
  6. Good reviews on Twitter, e.g.: [tweet:1d5ql09k] [/tweet:1d5ql09k]
  7. Bryan Shaw, not to the Mets but to the Rockies. Damn those big-city teams!
  8. Beltran played with Darvish in Texas and was the source of the tipping advice. The dopey FOX pre-game crew asked him and he avoided the question.
  9. Nymr83 wrote: Cut Jeter some slack, how far are the winter meetings from Miami? He probably didn't have the range to get there in time. Bravo!
  10. Jeter isn't going to the Winter Meetings. Does he think that he's above such matters? [tweet:aeocs9z2] [/tweet:aeocs9z2]
  11. If you want an Eddie Kendricks themed thread title, I'll suggest Keep on Fucking (with us): They get Stanton and we're talking Howie Kendrick here. #truth
  12. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Because the Yankees play in the greatest city in the world. So do the Mets. But the Mets have their fans so fucking brainwashed with their years and years of lowered expectations that to many Mets fans, the Mets might as well be playing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. #truth
  13. Seriously dude, there is one "Howie" and his last name is "Rose" and I thought that he was retiring or Mets management canned him for some stupid reason. Given that Howie Kendrick's last name is almost the same as a Temptation (the ballplayer is a singular Kendrick), perhaps the title could have been "Are We Tempted By Kendrick?".
  14. If a MFY shares the cover with positive news, the cover doesn't get my vote.
  15. So the #2 team in a big market gets a big name in an attempt to not only get better but attract more fans... imagine that.
  16. Seattle really wants him and we've read that he doesn't want a "big market" so I suspect that he wants to go to Seattle but there are big market teams still on this list to drive up the price: [tweet:bx849new] [/tweet:bx849new]
  17. Everyone ass-umed that he'd be a MFY because isn't that everyone's dream? Well, apparently it's not Ohtani's dream: [tweet:2769qfzo] [/tweet:2769qfzo]
  18. Best moment: Pulling out a save on a 1-2-3 DP off the bat of Mr. Bryce Harper when Familia was melting down last April in Washington. Not that there were many alternatives but I was there and that might have been the high point of the season for me.
  19. "Thank You, Cards" is so good that it gets a vote regardless of the photo. "Game Face!" is another winner in the photogenic Yoenis series.
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: If one of their goals is to improve the bullpen they can't afford to wait on Shaw with the idea that there might be someone better down the line, especially given that enticing a closer to sign with a club which already has two closers (in name or otherwise) is going to be a tall order. Agreed. He's a "workhorse" and can be a 6th (sigh)/7th inning guy. Get him.

    Zach Attack

I'm guessing that we'll see lots of him in spring training games from the 4th or 5th inning on (especially in road games) and then he'll go to Vegas as one of the last cuts. If all goes well, we won't see him again until September and if things go badly as they did last year, we'll see him much sooner.
  22. 3 night games (I don't think that there were any last year). 2 days where you can see the Mets twice. I'm sure that a game or two will be added before the season starts.
  23. I dismiss any cover which includes a MFY. The "3 Great Days" got one of my votes for being a sarcastic headline. I wonder if the staff in Stockholm has a breakdown of which Met has been on the cover of the most nominees? There are 2 excellent Cespedes covers here but could it be Jose? David? Terry? Mr. Met?
  24. It's Gary DiSarcina who will stand a half-step behind Callaway while mumbling "maybe you should double switch here, I'm not sure, I've never played or coached in the National League." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_DiSarcina#Coaching_career He was the Red Sox bench coach last year. John Farrell is a former pitcher so that's why he might have gotten the Mets gig: Because Farrell was a pitcher, he has relied on his bench coaches to provide him with the viewpoint of a position player. https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2017/03/10/gary-disarcina-natural-red-sox-bench-coach/QsOWPVNFaG3IwhLCBtMiPI/story.html Here's his Twitter feed:
