  1. From January 2018: Welcome Back Jay Bruce, The Trade Was Your Ticket Out Thanks for the props (I wrote that)! One of my finest accomplishments of the year.
  2. Ray Knight is out as a pre and post-game analyst for MASN TV: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2018/11/04/ray-knight-will-not-return-nationals-masn-broadcasts-next-season/?utm_term=.554af1f08bd5
  3. If Machado insists on playing SS then the Mets might not be interested. If Machado insists on making money regardless of the position then the Mets might try. Imagine if he was the 3B next year and how good the Mets would look going into the season. Frazier would back up 3B (of course), 1B and they could have this conversation: "Todd, why don't you take a few fly balls in LF?" "Brodie, I've never played LF." "Remember when you told me how important it was for you to play in New York so you could be with your kids? I can trade you to Texas if you'd like." "Let me get a bigger glove for the outfield."
  4. Roster moves. Goodbye Montero and Lyle Waggoner: [tweet:1ewcpvti] [/tweet:1ewcpvti]
  5. [tweet:33ktcxjv] [/tweet:33ktcxjv] What's the point of having a new GM if you have the same voices advising him?
  6. sustainable sustainable sustainable sustainable Classy start by talking about Sandy.
  7. Centerfield wrote: It's 2018. Can we let this phrase die? I was merely thinking of the song by The Vapors. I was not aware of any other meanings or interpretations. However, I have modified this thread title.
  8. Did you know that MLB is sending players to Japan for an "All-Star Series" in November? It's true! And look at these "stars": PITCHERS • Matt Andriese, D-backs • Scott Barlow, Royals • John Brebbia, Cardinals • Junior Guerra, Brewers • Brian Johnson, Red Sox • Kenta Maeda, Dodgers • Chris Martin, Rangers • Collin McHugh, Astros • Daniel Norris, Tigers • Vidal Nuno, Rays • Dan Otero, Indians • Yusmeiro Petit, A's • Erasmo Ramirez, Mariners • Hector Velazquez, Red Sox • Kirby Yates, Padres CATCHERS • Robinson Chirinos, Rangers • Yadier Molina, Cardinals • J.T. Realmuto, Marlins INFIELDERS • Whit Merrifield, Royals • Amed Rosario, Mets • Carlos Santana Phillies • Eugenio Suarez, Reds • Chris Taylor, Dodgers OUTFIELDERS • Ronald Acuna Jr., Braves • Mitch Haniger, Mariners • Enrique Hernandez, Dodgers • Rhys Hoskins, Phillies • Kevin Pillar, Blue Jays • Juan Soto, Nationals https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-announces-roster-all-star-tour-in-japan/c-299919036 2018 Japan All-Star Tour Thursday, Nov. 8: MLB Team vs Yomiuri Giants, Tokyo Dome (Tokyo) Friday, Nov. 9: Game 1, Tokyo Dome (Tokyo) Saturday, Nov. 10: Game 2, Tokyo Dome (Tokyo) Sunday, Nov. 11: Game 3, Tokyo Dome (Tokyo) Monday, Nov. 12: Travel Day Tuesday, Nov. 13: Game 4, Mazda Zoom Zoom Stadium (Hiroshima) Wednesday, Nov. 14: Game 5, Nagoya Dome (Nagoya) Thursday, Nov. 15: Game 6, Nagoya Dome (Nagoya)
  9. Rich Hill was supposed to pitch tonight but now both teams are "TBD". I wonder what happened to "Dick Mountain"? [tweet:342dj3ew] [/tweet:342dj3ew]
  10. So much for the speculation: [tweet:hqirxag2] [/tweet:hqirxag2]
  11. The game lasted 3:52. I did not. If I'm doing the math correctly, it ended at midnight.
  12. Final tally: 13 of 17 want Boston to win the WS.
  13. Final tally: 11 of 14 predict the Boston will win the WS.
  14. I like your analysis, LS!
  15. A report from a friend who is a Brewers fan living in LA about his experience at one of the playoff games:
  16. Not who you want, not whether you care, but your prediction. Show us your smarts.
  17. Nice. If only he cared as much about the Mets as he does about his college. F him and his son (the 3rd Trump son).
  18. Hitter: they need a catcher, otherwise the ball keeps rolling. Ramos will cost too much and they now have excuses not to sign Grandal. I think that it will be Matt Wieters. He's not great. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=4298&position=C Closer: I'll just pick a reliever--Adam Ottavino. "Mets By The Numbers" goes on full alert when he is assigned "0". Grew up in Brooklyn. He will be 33 so there might be a "hometown + age" discount and the Mets like discounts. Had a 2.0 WAR in 2018. Gives up a lot of SBs so he'll fit right in: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/adam-ottavino-has-a-weakness/ https://www.mlb.com/player/adam-ottavino-493603 Beer: I don't need a German engineer to help me pronounce "hefeweizen" (that's a "Better Call Saul" reference). Feed The Monkey by Jailbreak Brewing, a local (for me) beer, is delicious: https://jailbreakbrewing.com/jbb_beer/feed-the-monkey/
  19. This will make you feel old: Mike Cameron's son, Daz, is playing in the AFL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daz_Cameron
  20. I voted for Boston. Normally I'd select the NL team but the Dodgers annoy me, especially Bellinger. And they have Utley. Every BOS success upsets MFY fans so there's the schadenfreude factor (why isn't that a game show?). I'd rather watch a Scottsdale Scorpions game but this is all we have at the moment.
  21. When I polled the group (and we know how painful that can be), 6 of 19 voters picked Boston-LA as their WS of preference, so good for you getting what you wanted. Let's do it again: Who do you want to win the World Series? "I Don't Care" is not an option. Note: this isn't your prediction, just hoping.
  22. I would love to have Cody Bellinger on the Mets but boy is he annoying. Front Row Amy is distracting and I note that she has an outdated website, not that I'm objectifying her because that would be wrong.
  23. Lefty Specialist wrote: Which reminds me, whatever happened to that Harvey fellow? We hoped that Matt Harvey would regain his "Dark Knight" abilities but he never did. He was banished to the bullpen and, shockingly!, was not happy about it. The Mets traded him to the Reds for Devin Mesoraco where he started but still wasn't very good. What happened to Mesoraco?
  24. Centerfield wrote: That Ackert piece reads like a commercial for Melvin. I think Fred may have already picked his old guy. [tweet]https://twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1053622608950894595[/tweet] Young guy with an analytic background, woman to show forward thinking, two agents to show non-traditional candidates... "we saw a lot of great people but with Doug we got the best of all worlds."
  25. Centerfield wrote: bmfc1 wrote: It was nice of Mr. Van Peeples to show up at 10 AM. It's Peebles! Come on folks! No disrespect meant to Mr. Van Peebles or the TCD staff.
