  1. Matt, welcome "Big City" to the Big Time but you gotta change your Twitter profile picture ASAP: https://twitter.com/BigCityForRealhttps://twitter.com/BigCityForReal 20 HRs last year in 333 ABs for WSH. Could be a lefty bat off the bench, especially if Dom is moved. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/matt-adams/9393/stats?position=1Bhttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/matt-adams/9393/stats?position=1B
  2. Jayson Stark and Eno Sarris in The Athletic looked at the latest information on the Astros and some of it was about our very own Jake Marisnick: [bLOCKQUOTE]Four of their returning hitters made remarkable improvements in their ability to lay off [breaking balls below the zone] … Jake Marisnick dropped from 30 percent to 13 percent. ... Why did a guy as talented as Marisnick never become a full-time player in his six seasons in Houston? Swinging and missing had a lot to do with it. His 29.8-percent career strikeout percentage is the eighth-highest of any active player with at least 1,800 plate appearances. On one hand, that rate spiked to 34.8 percent overall in 2017, and that was Marisnick's highest (at the time) of any season he'd spent as an Astro. On the other hand, what stood out about it was this: Home: 29.2% Road: 39.6% That's a stunning 10.4-percent difference between his home and road strikeout ratios. Among players with at least 250 trips to the plate, he was one of only five players that year whose home strikeout rate was that much lower than his road rate, according to STATS. But that difference ranked first in baseball among hitters whose overall whiff rate was as high as Marisnick's. According to signstealingscandal.com, the Astros pounded that trash can on 22.8 percent of all the recorded pitches thrown to Marisnick at home that year. And where did that percentage rank on his team? The correct answer is first, well ahead of the runner-up, González, at 18.9.[/bLOCKQUOTE] Marisnick is going to face some tough questions when he arrives at Port St. Lucie.
  3. I propose that in the event of a tie, G-Fafif's vote counts double.
  4. =MFS62 post_id=30695 time=1580301675 user_id=60] a year of a hairy armpit.
  5. Without getting political, if you check the front page of today's Daily News it is still putting out great covers.
  6. I'm not advocating for the DH but this is Manfred's biggest argument: it increases offense and the game doesn't have enough action. The players want it because it's paid higher than a utility player. It makes life easier for managers because they can think less. It avoids the DH discrepancy during interleague games and the World Series. I'd still rather watch deGrom/Matz/Noah/Stro hit.
  7. The current rule says that you lose the DH: "If the DH is replaced by a player who then takes a position, the pitcher must bat in the designated hitter's place." Maybe that will be changed.

The downside is that Mets' pitchers can rake.
  9. Another day, another non-roster invitee who was a Red Sox. I don't see a lot to love but maybe he's playing Winter Ball with a Mets coach who texted Brodie and said: "I see something, it can't hurt". https://www.fangraphs.com/players/erasmhttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/erasm ... position=P https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erasmo_Rahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erasmo_Ra ... d_pitcher)

  11. MFS62, you can hate them any way you want so long as you do with an intense, burning, irrational passion.
  12. There has been a lot of talk in the last few days about the Mets trading for Starling Marte. He's on the wrong side (for a ballplayer) of 30 (he's 31), has a drug suspension, his fielding has diminished BUT he gives you power, speed and has won 2 Gold Gloves. He has a plus 3 WAR and really wants to be a Met. They aren't going to do this on the day they introduce the latest Manager but what do you think? Should the Mets "bust a move" and trade for Marte? https://www.fangraphs.com/players/starling-marte/9241/stats?position=OFhttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/starling-marte/9241/stats?position=OF https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starling_Martehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starling_Marte https://twitter.com/MichaelMarino37/status/1220736448485347330https://twitter.com/MichaelMarino37/status/1220736448485347330
  13. This site, which I've never heard of, says that the Mets and Rockies are talking: https://primetimesportstalk.com/2020/01/23/schwartz-mets-rumors-and-notes/https://primetimesportstalk.com/2020/01/23/schwartz-mets-rumors-and-notes/ COL wants a catcher and they like Nimmo (who doesn't?) who is from that part of the country. I'm fantasizing about a lineup with Marte in CF and Arenado at 3B.

  15. Luis Avilan, MFY.
  16. Keith Hernandez is "stunned" and "floored" and thinks that they needed an experienced manager for a "win-now" team.

  18. Congratulations to Larry Walker on his election to the Hall of Fame!
  19. He might hit another Grand Slam against the Mets.

  21. Per Mike Puma, the looming presence of Steve Cohen is impacting the Mets managerial search: https://nypost.com/2020/01/20/mets-fear-of-future-owner-steve-cohen-is-taking-over-manager-search/https://nypost.com/2020/01/20/mets-fear-of-future-owner-steve-cohen-is-taking-over-manager-search/ [bLOCKQUOTE]there is concern that if the Mets hire somebody who wasn't originally considered for the job, it will look bad to Cohen, reflecting poorly on a front office that will be in limbo once the ownership transfer is complete.[/bLOCKQUOTE] My opinion: the thought process in November isn't necessarily the same as it is 3 weeks before spring training starts. Maybe you want a veteran manager, such as Dusty or Buck because they have a lot of experience so they can step in and start right away because they've done this many times. Or maybe you want someone who knows the organization, such as Luis or Tony because they know the organization and there is a quick turnaround. Regardless, that was then, this is now and this is a unique situation.
  22. This leads to how we view this contest, much like the "value" in "Valuable": is it the cover as a work of art or the cover as something that commemorates a significant moment in Mets history, good or bad? I tend to look at the cover itself which was why I voted for the HR Derby Alonso over the 53 Alonso. It's also why I voted for "Mane Man" which is simply a great looking cover. Above, "Streakers' works on every level, the colors (the red matching the ad in the background), the joy in the picture, the text matching the picture. "53" is an incredible moment for the Mets and for us, of course, and a wonderful picture but the headline covers too much of his body and the sub-headline above his helmet seems off. That doesn't mean that it shouldn't win. 53! will likely win and maybe it should simply because of that moment.
  23. If he was a CAA client he would have been a Met sooner and would still be a Met. A good guy, if that's relevant, who wanted to be a Met.
