  1. Damn BY ANDY MARTINO From the Mets: Righthanded pitcher Jenrry Mejia was examined today by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek and was found to have a complete MCL tear of the right elbow. Mejia underwent an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. Surgical treatment has been recommended, but Mejia is expected to seek a second opinion. In his last start for Buffalo (AAA) of the International League on April 29, he left after 4.0 innings with discomfort and was flown to New York to be examined. In five starts for the Bisons, Mejia was 1-2 with a 2.86 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. Mejia went 0-4 with a 4.62 ERA in 33 games, three starts for New York in 2010. that's a Tommy John fix right?
  2. that's funny stuff......Rac should go on with Adam Richman The chants of "U-S-A" in the visitors clubhouse after the game were partially reflecting the international news. But they also were celebrating an American tradition -- gorging oneself. sounds like a happy club house.

  5. huge call by the 3rd base ump....didn't think the home plate ump was going to ask him.
  6. fucking walks....bases loaded with no hits
  7. Odds of SNY showing Geno's and Pat's tonight? 1/2 on
  8. I'm not surprised , his at bat music in his last few AB's at home was Biko by Simple Minds....or Peter Gabriel was it?
  9. I feel I know the Phillies more and hate them all the more for it....
  10. In England they call it gardening leave , either way it's one step out the door.

  12. Derek Lowe busted for DUI The Braves on Friday issued this statement on the DUI arrest of starting pitcher Derek Lowe: "Obviously we are concerned and disappointed about the events involving Derek Lowe overnight. We are currently gathering information and plan to address this matter later today." Lowe, 37, was arrested overnight for driving under the influence, and was taken to the Atlanta city jail. Cbsatlanta.com posted a video of Lowe leaving the jail early this morning after he bonded out. Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright told the AJC that Lowe was stopped around 10 p.m. on Peachtree Road at Rumson Road. The trooper "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" and gave Lowe a field sobriety test, Wright said. Lowe refused to take a state-administered alcohol test, he said. Wright said Lowe, who was driving a 2011 Porsche Panamera, was also charged with reckless driving and making an improper lane change. Return to ajc.com for details.

It's not that I don't know what they are; it's just that I couldn't calculate them. Personally, I still feel the tiniest bit disingenuous if using a statistic that I couldn't calculate myself. this , when I see it written I tend to move along . When I look at a batting average or an earned run average they immediately connect in my mind to what's going on and how an individual player might be performing. I also know that such things are often out of that players control. Trying to make that connection with WAR and VORP is just not easy.
  14. I nearly always get RF and LF mixed up.
  15. Just flipped between innings and caught Robinson Cano standing and admiring what he thought was a HR , Quinten caught it before the wall. Cano stops to admire every hit it seems.....he was doing it with the great catch the other night too.....he is one of those players I really , really dislike. MFY up 2-0 end of three Red Sox - 2-1 over O's end of 4 Royals getting hammered 0-6 against Indians No score Cards and Astros , same with rays Twins Cubs @ D-Backs kicks of at 9:40
  16. I also liked this one, from the Rubin game article last night: Starting pitcher R.A. Dickey, asked about Reyes reaction, offered one word: "Justified." Yee. Haw. ah , heard him say the word but couldn't hear the question. I should add that it drew big laughs from the assembled press and Dickey did look rather chuffed with himself.
  17. OMFG , watch the press conference with Allard and the Quinn family. http://www.tmz.com/videos?autoplay=true&mediaKey=c768a07d-3b51-4591-963e-3966a27b39b9&isShareURL=true the whole thing is sort of creepy with the two young girls there but at 2 minutes it gets a whole lot weirder .
  18. When was the last time the Mets swept two series in a row?
  19. G-Fafif wrote: Mets had a 10-1 stretch and a 12-1 stretch in 2010. Feelings were pretty good around the club then, too. not after he was called up though right?
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: And while that's great, it's also an indicator of how transitory these feelings can be. exactly transitory? , BG using big words too
  21. I heard it on the post game, in addition to that he was saying how there is a feeling around the club that he only felt maybe four times last season.

In terms of virtually everything else? Oh, haaaaaayells, no. I just heard from a source with knowledge of the area that Jeff has moved in to a shack behind Citi Field , he's fighting the eminent domain eviction tooth and nail now, Wallace Matthews is out there right now writing about it.
  23. I love this thread.....
  24. I agree it's a super deal for the player and I suppose if the Mets didn't have the Madoff mess no one would even be talking about the deferred payments.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: Those deferred compensation obligations seem manageable, though. It's not like Bonilla is going to foreclose on the team. The payment schedule is entrenched, and not hanging over them in coming months like some other obligations will be. Steve Phillips borrowing from the future like that though. He wouldn't be a very good hero for the tea party movement. it seems like terrible money management though no? , they could get jobs in the Irish banking system these money gurus.
