  1. Harvey could be making his last start on his normal rest - manager Terry Collins on Friday said the team will be switching to a six-man rotation when Dillon Gee comes off the disabled list next week. Per Anthony DiComo: Collins said that when Harvey saw the news on Twitter, he marched into the manager's office to demand an explanation. I demand that Harvey shut the F up. Everyone knows his innings are going to be limited one way or another. Would you rather be shut down in mid-September, Matt?

The accountants dictate the baseball moves with this team. This scenario would not be surprising, but it would be disappointing. At some point, this team has to decide it is going to genuinely roll the dice and compete for something.

  4. Thanks Jacob. As bad as things have looked over the past two weeks, the Mets are playing .500 ball over their past 16 games. It's time to beat the crap out of some teams with worse records to close out the month.

I wouldn't say it's not possible (or even probable), but with the Mets' heinous hitting, Colon and Niese having multiple bad starts in a row and a Nationals team finally living up to their "on paper" pre-season expectations, there's no way I could call it a 100% guarantee.
  6. Not a chance of what?
  7. From the post-game presser (bolding mine): "We're not hitting the ball hard," Collins said. "... We're not even barreling up some balls. I don't know what the reason is. Other teams don't have a problem hitting suckers out of this ballpark." Oh, Terry. Figure it the fuck out.

  9. Nats are 15-4 since that improbable comeback against the Braves on April 28th. I mentioned in the Braves thread that I hoped the win wouldn't be a springboard for the Nats. My hopes have been dashed.

  13. I made it to the end, but will say that had the Mets not scored in the 14th, I would have considered turning in. But I love walk off wins, so extra innings at home always give me that tease.

Ceetar wrote: I know they're trying to manage Harvey and all, but personally I think they should get these guys to 120 pitches a few times, even if it's an irregular occurrence, so that 100 pitches isn't occuring at the tail end of their endurance. SNY was showing stats that imply Harvey has historically fallen off after 100 pitches (something like a .400+ BA against in his career). It was maybe not something they wanted to test in such a tight game.
  16. The surging Phillies have crept past the Marlins into fourth place. I didn't see that coming a week ago.
  17. Centerfield wrote: Falling in a heap usually means ACL tear. Sprained ACL, per Rubin. No timetable yet...he'll resume baseball activities when he is pain free.
  18. You can't ask for much more out of the pitching staff. Even though Familia blew the save, it's not as if he was rocked. As mentioned in the IGT, he was betrayed by Grandy's arm as much as anything. The O continues to look lost at the plate and the D continues to jeopardize excellent pitching performances. Matheny did have a couple of head scratching moves.
  19. ESPN sure loves those front-running match-ups. I hope the Mets mop the field with those Redbirds for all to see tonight.
  20. Awesome! A short-handed bench for what seems like the 20th time this season.

  23. I feel like this series is a big test. If the Mets can't beat the worst team in the league at home then they have hot probs. Time to get right...especially with the best team in the league coming in next week. A horrible home stand could throw this whole thing right off the rails.
