  3. Klapisch seems certain that Cuddyer will eventually be DL'd and that Conforto will replace him when that happens. Klapisch wrote: Clearly, the Mets are in a run-scoring crisis. Awful pathetic is how one talent evaluator described them this week. Its a certainty Michael Cuddyer will be placed on the disabled list as early as today. Michael Conforto, the franchises best hitting prospect, will be summoned from Class AA. Its the logical move and itll placate the ticket buyers who are teetering toward open rebellion. But the timing of Confortos promotion speaks to upper managements clumsiness and lack of vision. Conforto is being sent to war against Kershaw? Against Greinke? In his major league debut? Collins cant possibly sacrifice a rookie like that. No kid, regardless of his genetic blessings, is ready for such a buzz saw. The smarter move wouldve been to put Cuddyer on the DL on Monday and let Conforto debut against the Nationals Joe Ross, himself a rookie, and Jordan http://www.northjersey.com/sports/klapisch-late-meltdown-leaves-mets-a-battered-bunch-1.1378621 This doesn't really answer our question though.
  4. Bartolo had 8 wins at the end of May...it's strange to look up at his total now and only see 9. The SNY booth was mentioning yesterday that he needs a good start today and that maybe having Recker back to catch will make the difference. His 2015 splits with Recker catching (8 G, 52 IP, 3.63 ERA, 39 K, 5 BB) are much better than with everyone else (10 G, 57.1 IP, 5.97 ERA, 49K, 9 BB).
  5. I see a lot of blame to go around on this one. Parnell is the most obvious, but there were lots of opportunities missed in this one. This struck me as a pretty sloppily played series by the Mets in some aspects. For all of the fanfare over how important this series was and for having the starters set up the way they wanted, it didn't seem as if the Mets played like a team trying (needing) to make a statement.

He would arguably become the best Mets batter immediately upon his insertion into the lineup. Unfortunately, that speaks more to how horrible the Mets' offense has been on the whole rather than how much value Cespedes might provide in the middle of the horror.

  8. Did Rubin post that a SS was being sought? I only saw that he thought an OF was NOT going to be brought in. I still think if a move is made in the next two weeks it will be for a benchy/utility dude only.
  9. Holy crap...great work! I was one who had the FEELING last week. Nice to know it is supported by data. It's still a shame Jeurys wasn't an All-Star. I hope the sweat-free ninth innings continue.
  10. Great pics...glad you had a good time. I'd love to visit Pac-Bell (or whatever it's called now).
  11. The Strawberry game was the first Mets game I ever got to see from the stands at age 10. There was no turning back after that...I was hooked on the team.

  14. Bummer for Matz as he made quite the splash in his first couple of starts and seemed to be rolling. I'm hoping he isn't as fragile in the future as his injury history may suggest. The timing is not great either if the Mets are thinking of moving Niese before the deadline. They could go back to a 5 man rotation or call Gee back up if Niese is dealt. I know Verrett is accumulating a lot of fans based on his small sample size of success over the past few weeks, but I'm not sure I'd rely on him too much as a sixth starter.
  15. Not sure this goes here, but I strongly agree with Mark Simon on this article: Hey, Sandy Alderson: There's no use in Mets making big deal at deadline Mark Simon wrote: So yes, the Mets should feel really good about their 4-2 West Coast trip, the way that deGrom is looking like a Cy Young candidate and Matz and Syndergaard seem to be getting better with each turn. But this is about looking at the big picture. And the big picture puts the Mets' playoff odds at 20 percent. They could still make the postseason as currently composed, particularly if Wright and d'Arnaud return and make an impact. But the small gains that could come from making a big trade today will be dealt with as ramifications when you look at the Mets future the day after the season ends.
  16. deGrom continues to draw these mid-afternoon day games. This is his third (maybe fourth?) in a row. I hope he likes getting it going it early as this seems to be one of the effects of a six-man rotation.
  17. I trust Familia as much as I have any closer in some time. I'm hoping getting Mejia back will solidify the pen. It doesn't hurt that all of our starters are capable of throwing at least 6 innings every night. Bad baseball? Mostly, yes. But watching Cuddyer, Nieuwenhuis, Monell and Lagares all come up with clutch hits in the same inning was a sight for sore eyes.
  18. I don't think Familia has a chance with the name recognition that Kershaw and Tulowitzki have on that "final vote" ballot. He deserves to go in my mind, though.
  19. Eric Campbell is useless. I can't remember seeing a guy less aggressive at the plate...it's like he goes up there hoping for a walk. I don't need a corner outfield slugger or shortstop masher. Just get a utility guy that isn't an automatic out and I'd be more happy. Oh, and four man benches on a team that can't score runs? It was like they were asking to be swept.
  20. I want a copy for my vinyl collection! Very cool!
  21. Ultimately, this is why I'm more or less opposed to using our young guns to acquire position players via trade this season. Even if the Mets were to acquire one of the best players in the game via trade (even that is not likely), they would still only have one or two truly reliable bats in their lineup at any given time (as opposed to the zero or one reliable bats now). Even with Duda and Murphy batting in the ninth last night, I had little faith that they would come through in a one run ballgame. That list above solidifies the fact that due to injury, suckitude, youth and decline, this Mets offense is much more than one player away from being potent. I would be upset at trading any of the big four arms to get bats to help for the remainder of this season. Now, to Edgy's note above...I'm certainly not giving up on this season. The pitching is keeping them afloat in spite of the offense. But I think the best course is to hope that players with injuries can get healthy or that Colon, Niese or (maybe) Montero and/or Mejia is enough to get us an offensive piece or two to help add depth and get over the hump.
  22. Christ, that's pathetic. I don't know all there is to know about OPS, but isn't league average usually around .700? So, we had 7 below average guys (most woefully so) according to that metric?
  23. Nearly four years ago? I don't even remember that. LOL
