  1. I can't answer this question yet. I don't know if the Mets are "for real", but there they are at the top. The last two games have shown me a lot...but I still think they have some growing to do and the Nats could turn it on at any time. If they can take 3 of 4 from the Jays and then beat up on ATL and MIL... I cringe when I look at the upcoming schedule in July. Man, that's a tough stretch of playing teams that are all pretty darn good. The Mets are going to have to start beating good teams and not just the bad ones.
  2. IIRC, the team can get back 75% of this year's salary once he's missed 60 games. So, I'm guessing within the next week?
  3. What a weird game...it's nice to see the Mets win one of these. I think it's the first time this season that I had mentally written off their chances of winning yet they surprised me by coming back to win the game.
  4. Per Rubin: Manager Terry Collins added that Jeurys Familia may need to go on paternity leave, which could make Bobby Parnell the closer. Yikes!
  5. That Saturday pitching match-up looks pretty awesome...if you like that sort of thing.
  6. I've acquired some of the Mets' young pitching guns over the past few years (Harvey, Syndergaard, Wheeler, Montero) thinking they would anchor my rotation for years to come. Obviously, Wheeler and Montero are hurt and Harvey and Syndergaard are not even included in my top five starters....yet, Mike Pelfrey and Chris Young are. Baseball is funny.
  7. The Mets haven't won a series since that sweep of the Phillies May 25-27 (though, they did split a four-gamer with ARZ). It would be nice to see them go on a little run here vs. against these teams who have B nicknames over the next couple of weeks...starting with a win today.
  8. Carlos Torres always looks so sad.
  9. Ceetar wrote: err, I think the injuries to Wright, Murphy and d'Arnaud are the main culprits in making this team 'offensively starved' I don't believe the 2014 offense was a Michael Cuddyer away from being a reliable offense on the whole...no matter how elite Wright is. I think they would still be below league average as a team in most stats this season even if all these guys were mostly healthy.
  10. The Pods beat the Bravos in extras this afternoon, so there's that.
  11. Megdal may be a hack and a one-trick pony, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything behind the trick he is offering.
  12. I have not been less enthusiastic about a game all year.
  13. Harvey has a 7.20 ERA over his past four starts. Yuck!
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I like these Duda tweets, but I couldn't locate the account. Yeah, I'm just making them up as a creative writing assignment from Centerfield yesterday. Duda is a luddite. You can make up your own and take a screenshot (never download) from here.
  15. I duped myself into watching the Yanks/Nats this afternoon. The Yanks went up 4-2 with a 4 run seventh and then blew the lead in the ninth and lost in extras. The stupid Yanquis can't even win the one time per year that I DO root for them!
  16. Ceetar wrote: yes, they're 2-21 when trailing after 6, but this is a function of having no offense, not of having no fire. I think it's a little of both. Or at least a lot of the former and a little of the latter. Hi, Terry!
  17. deGrom: co-NL Player of the Week with Kershaw. deGrom went 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.
  18. Wait, he's a switch-pitcher?
  19. OE: Sorry...it looks like you were going alphabetical. I was just drawing off the top of my head.
  20. He needs to perform for more than just one day for me to have faith in his abilities over the long haul. He's been severely disappointing for a third of a season. And, I thought having John Jr. as a platoon bench guy was supposed to be a strength for the Mets?
  21. I respect Sandy's GM abilities, especially in working with what ownership gives him, but I could go the rest of my life without listening to him utter another word of double-talk to the media. #meaninglessbabble
  22. The late nights caught up to me this afternoon. I'm tuckered out.
  23. Four hours without any posts in the BB Forum this afternoon. Is everyone taking naps to prepare for staying up late tonight?
