  2. It won't matter after the Mets score 11 runs in the first two innings. Honestly, though, if you asked me 10 times if I would rather have Matz or Chris Young starting for my team, I'd answer "Matz" 10 times.
  3. Jay Payton in the Clemens bat throwing game.
  4. Granderson, RF Wright, 3B Murphy, 2B Cespedes, CF Duda, 1B d'Arnaud, C Conforto, LF Flores, SS Syndergaard, RHP Lots of confidence in the slumping Conforto. I'd have been tempted to go to Laggy. Make a fool out of me, Michael.
  5. The Mets had chances to win Game 1, but flat out got beat during Game 2. I have had the opportunity to watch over 90% of the Mets games this season and it's been rare (if it happened at all) that one team has done so well against the Mets big pitching guns (Harvey, deGrom and Familia) on consecutive nights. This KC team is very good. This series isn't over, but I can't say that the Mets are getting cheated.

  7. I would want Uribe to be the primary righty off the bench. Cuddy looked pitiful last night.
  8. I can't help thinking this was a game the Mets gave away and could have easily won minus a few miscues. Cespedes should have gotten a better jump on that ball. Familia made a mistake. They're few and far between, but that wasn't the point that you wanted to see that. I don't disagree with the 3+ out save, but the more you run him out there, the more chances you have of making the rare mistake. I'm concerned about Wright. Lots of good things happened last night, too. Grandy, Murphy, Duda, Lagares, Reed, Clippard, Niese all gave performances to be excited about.
  9. Duda is the new Muffy!
  10. Mets in 5.
  11. Pending the knowledge on actual match ups based on announced starting pitching, I would think we would see Conforto in left with Johnson DHing in Game 1.
  12. FWIW, every Cubs fan I have crossed paths with today online or IRL (I live close to their region) has been very gracious in defeat. Hats off to them.
  13. I really started following the Mets on a daily basis as an adult in 1997...this season has been the most fun for me in that time. 1999 and 2006 were great, but this one has been the best.
  14. The only one I remember is 2000...I was at a sports bar, slightly buzzed, with a Cardinal fan friend. Much like this last series against the Cubs, I don't remember that series being all that competitive and the Mets seemed to win pretty easily. All my friend could do was shake his head and admit the Mets were the better team. We lost touch within the next year...so I was NOT with him for the 2006 NLCS.
  15. MLB satellite radio jocks were prognosticating Mattingly to the Marlins this afternoon.
  16. I loved how Jeff couldn't get it opened. At the time, I said to my brother: Doesn't he hire people to open his bottles for him? When he was handing it off to others (players) to try and open, my thought was, "please, Lord, don't let anyone get injured because Jeffy couldn't open the giant bottle of bubbly."
  17. There has never been a Mets team that has exceeded expectations and surprised me more than this team. I'm sorry for not believing in Terry Collins. I have often thought and said around here that he was a "placeholder" manager in place to get young players through the post-Madoff era. While I still think that could have been the thinking back in 2011, Terry has done a great job of keeping the team as competitive as the talent would allow and has really grown as a manager over the past few years along with the team. While I don't always agree with him move for move, everything he has touched in the postseason has turned to gold and it's hard for me not to trust him now. I hope he stays with the club for a few more years. I'm sorry for not believing in Sandy Alderson. I've been on board with Alderson's plan during the rebuild...in fact I welcomed it as necessary even during the lean years. But, I did not think he would be able to make the moves in July that would make the Mets strong WS contenders without giving up big pieces to get it done. I was wrong. I am not disappointed with any deal he made and admire that he did not get fleeced on the return. I'm sorry for writing the Mets off in May. And June. And July. I was pretty content to have this year be the last year of the rebuild and my expectations were set as such. When the injuries mounted and the offense became non-existent, I was ready to look to 2016. Luckily, the Mets did not share my opinion and kept their eyes on this year. I was even sqeamish when Game 5 of the NLDS came around. I should have known better. I'm ready to give in to this team. I now think that they CAN win the whole damn thing. I am now just believing in the amazing and miraculous things that this team can and will do. I love that they have proved me wrong.
  18. i'm going to open the TransMonk Bunting School For Pitchers (TBSFP for short) this winter and make a million dollars.
  19. I hope everyone brought their home run pants. I think the ball will carry tonight.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Reports out of Madison Wisconsin indicate New Jersey-based punk/Meat Loaf fusion band Titus Andronicus performed "Meet the Mets" at their show at the Frequency Club Saturday night. Our correspondent noted they were drinking with the guitarist pre-show watching the game. Just found out I'm likely playing with a new project at The Frequency on November 4th. Game 7 of the World Series is scheduled for that night*. As of right now, Meet the Mets is not on our setlist. * - if necessary
  21. I thought about a trip to Wrigley this week, but: 1. I'm super busy with work right now. 2. Tickets are outrageously priced on the secondary market there. 3. Hanging out with 35,000 Cubs fans sounds silly to me (especially if the Mets lose the game).
  22. Hendricks isn't as dominant as Kershaw, Greinke, Arrieta or Lester, but I'm hoping the Mets aren't looking past him.
