  1. I was 11 sitting in front of my family's TV in the den. I remember being emotionally spent from Game 6, but KNOWING without a doubt that they were going to win Game 7.

I visited this weekend and hung out with my brother and his girlfriend (who is a life-long Cubs fan). She kept telling me how painful the wait has been and how she does not know any Cubs fan that has ever seen them win it all. It was almost like she was asking me not to root for my team in order for the Cubs to win. I told her that I could empathize, but I don't have any control over the outcome of the games. I also told her that I would be happy if Cubs fans could have their moment...as long as they didn't beat my team to get there.

Dickey goes up against long, tall Chris Young for KC. Quite a contrast between them and the current NYM rotation as neither guy today is likely to get much above 80 on the radar gun. Not only ex-Mets, but members of the same 2012 rotation.

  5. Yeah, a lot of this talk is a couple weeks premature, but... I have no problem extending a QO to Daniel, but I hope the Mets continue to pick and develop youngsters rather than having to overpay for and give long-term contracts to players that are on the wrong side of 30. With the type of player Murphy is and the output he gives, I'm not sure his decline will be as significant, but I hope the Mets stay the course on the commitment to youth. That said, my biggest worry about replacing Murph with Herrera is the loss of the lefty bat as a middle infield option...followed closely by losing the backup at first and third.
  6. Some people call me the captain. I can admit, other than that Game 1 hit, I had a pretty stinky NLDS. But I dare any opposing pitcher to have a false sense of security. I can strike at any time and should still be one of the most feared hitters in the lineup. I'm looking forward to sending a baseball or two out to Waveland Avenue.
  7. Sorry I missed the IGT thread with youse all last night. It was a thriller of a game that I watched from my couch as I bit my fingernails down to bloody stumps. I'm happy for all of us. Every time I've caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror over the past 12 hours, I've had a huge grin.
  8. Let's just score 17 runs in the first inning and be done with it.
  9. I'm duplicating my Game One wardrobe of a grey road jersey and blue cap. I guess pants are optional, but I'll probably be wearing some.

  11. You guys are ALL wrong. Especially Billy Joel. [youtube:1m9n7kwb]3HUGeA2lur4[/youtube:1m9n7kwb]
  12. I'm not there yet. I was probably over-confident yesterday and under-confident for tomorrow. I'm guessing I'll be more optimistic come game day.
  13. Game 2 still irks me. Fuck.
  14. I say walk off victories are THE BEST. Let's Go METS!
  15. If Terry puts deGrom in, I'll lose my shit.
  16. I'd have Matz on a short leash now. Which means Terry will probably leave him in too long.
  17. We all know Murphy can't hit lefties!
  18. Kershaw can be beat. Let's SCORE SOME RUNS!
  19. Keith called it late (after reviewing the play a few times), but IIRC stopped just sort of calling it dirty on Saturday's SNY post game show. He agreed with the rest of the (biased?) SNY team that the umps should have called a double play.
  20. Mets Willets Point wrote: I saw somewhere the suggestion that mid-broadcast, Gary and Keith should storm the booth WWE-style, hit Ripken and Johnson with chairs, and take over. I think that was Fman in our IGT. I agree wholeheartedly.
  21. Per Cot's Contracts, Robin Ventura signed a multi-year extension on 01/24/14 which puts him under contract through 2016 with the White Sox.
  22. The Cubs/Cards have Brian Anderson on PBP (regular Brewers announcer), Dennis Eckersly and Joe Simpson (current and former Braves color man). Other than Anderson over Ernie Johnson, hardly better. Though, they're all better than Pierzynski who is doing the Astro games. I can't stand that guy. I did appreciate Ronnie joining the SNY crew for the post-game last night.
